I stayed at Sakura twice, both times excellent. The place is beautifully located in the trees yet not far from town. I was in single room first time, female dorm the second time. . The common area is large and comfortable with a very well equipped kitchen. A really nice vibe so people use the space. The rooms are all kept very clean, the beds were super comfortable, toilet and sink facilities separate for men and women, and on the same floor as rooms. Plenty of nice hot showers on ground/first floor as well as pay washer and dryer which I happily used! They have three different timed shuttles every morning to town to the train station. And last but not least the staff are great, around if needed, and very accommodating! I will definitely stay here again if I return to Takayama.
I liked it all!

Wonderful hostel with nice staff. I had a great stay here and it worked perfectly with my Takayama plans. It was initially about a 20 minute walk from the train. But there is much to explore around the hostel - Hida no Sato village which I highly recommend everyone to visit is only 10 minute walk. I also found a cat shelter, Denver park (dedicated to Denver, CO which as an American I thought was really cool!) a brewery and several nice restaurants nearby. The staff realizes that people dont want to walk 20min back into town so they offer a shuttle service in the morning to take you to the train to either travel on or explore the wonderful town of Takayama. No complaints about the facilities- room was warm, bed comfy, nice shower. Thank you for an enjoyable stay in Takayama!

What a charming guest house, easy location from the train station, grocery stores and the historic Village. I met some cool travelers in the kitchen of this guest house. It’s a very cozy property very welcoming atmosphere.
Meeting people in the kitchen was my favorite part of the Property. Also, they rent bicycles and it’s easy to get around town on a bicycle. And the location was just wonderful even on a rainy day. We had the historic village right next to us so we could make the most of a rainy day.

Very spacious and nice. The communal kitchen is huge with lots of tables to hang around in or eat a meal. The beds were comfy with a table and heat/aircon in the room. Laundry space with room to hang dry clothes. There are flyers and coupons on events/places to visit in Takayama at reception. The free shuttle to downtown made the location worth it. A nice walk to Hida no Sato. Lockers available in the room. Umbrellas available to use for free.

The views. As the property is on top of a hill, the view of Takayama is awesome. Value for money, with complete kitchen and free shuttle to Nagoya Station. Our room was comfortable and had a portable heater and electric blankets. Near the outstanding Hida No Sato open air museum. The manager was so kind and helpful. We arrived beyond the allowed check-in period because we were held up by a horrendous 4-hour traffic in Shirakawago, but the property made sure that we were able to self check in.

There's a common kitchen/dining area where you can reheat your food and eat. Free coffee and tea are also available. I requested to transfer to the lower bed and the staff gladly accommodated it. There's a free shuttle service at 7:15am so don't need to worry about your luggage when you need to go to the station.
It's quite far from the city center but it's 10 mins (or less) walk to Hida Folk Village. Some guests were a bit noisy even after 10PM, when other guests are already resting/sleeping.

What a lovely place and lovely owner. There is a shuttlebus in the morning for free, which is so nice. They also make coffee in the morning and make sure there is hot water for tea. A fire was lit in the afternoon. Also they can tell you a lot about the town. It’s a bit further out town (20 min walk) but next to the open museum. Beds were comfy and you could adjust the (2!) heaters :) would def come again!

There was everything you needed, the staff were nice, though a lot was heard through walls, people were quiet so we had no problem sleeping through whole night. There were 4 of us in shared bathroom and they put us in beds that were together. The toilets, bathroom and bedrooms were clean.
It was an older house, so there are some things that could be changed/updated. Some parts of the house weren't completely clean, but otherwise pretty fine.

Helpful owner, free tea and coffee and kitchen facilities. Dorm and showers were clean and there were toiletries supplied. Free shuttle bus to the station several times in the morning. Near to the open air museum.
It was quite a walk from the centre of Takayama. The owner provides a free shuttle to the station in the morning and there are buses to station/ open air museum, but they stop around 4.30 so you'll need to walk back in the evening.

I thought that the beds themselves were comfortable enough, but when we got there, the AC was off so the rooms were very hot as there isn't alot of airflow in the room. Once the AC and the fan were running, it was comfortable. I would suggest getting to the room, dropping off your things, turning on the AC and heading out for a while. The area around the hotel is GORGEOUS, and its just a short walk to the Hida Folk Village. There is multiple shops and restaurants with amazing finds and rich culture. In addition, there are many places you can find around here that offer crafts that you can make with their assistance. I made a glass wind chime and a very cute little paper lantern that came with an LED to put inside it.
The rooms were kindof small for the four of us, and not well ventilated. In addition, the dryer takes like two hours to dry your clothes if you want to wash a load. The parking situation isn't ideal, but there is construction going on nearby which may be the reason why. (I did not hear any of the work, just saw it, which was nice.)
