Panji Panji was a beautiful small intimate complex and the staff were superb and they went above and beyond expectations to be of help.. Thank you Ekin. Panji Panji breakfasts are legendary across the island and are often busy.. they have a singer with brunch on Sundays. download Grab for taxis to evening restaurants and we used the free bikes to go to the supermarket. The hotel is dry (like half the restaurants on the island) but you can buy your own. we stayed for 4 days then moved to the parkroyal as I wanted a gym and beachfront for our last week.

the only thing I would suggest is mosquito nets for the beds.. take Mossi spray!

Peaceful. Staff are very kind and good fun. The 2 girls ( sorry - I didn't get their names) were awesome and never missed an opportunity to say good morning or find out how your day was going to be. Food is delicious and coffee was excellent. Water and towels replaced daily and great rainforest shower. comfy beds and although no TV, the wifi worked most of the time.

The pool needs to be thoroughly cleaned. Although the water looks fine ( the tiles grout in the pool has significant dirt build up and a few cracked tiles on the pool base could cut feet. Smiling Buffalo closes at 5 and as this is the central hub of the property, it means there is no community feel after that. However there is a great sunset restaurant 5 min walk away and a host of local restaurants and warungs. The main area is also only a 15 min walk away too.

: Stay in Villa 1 – Panji Panji Tropical Wooden Home (6 nights) What a wonderful place! Our six-night stay in Villa 1 at Panji Panji Tropical Wooden Home was truly unforgettable. The villa itself is beautiful – spacious, full of character, and thoughtfully decorated. It felt like home from the moment we arrived. The staff were incredibly kind and helpful – nothing was too much to ask. We rented scooters for four days through Ekin and explored the island at our own pace, discovering so many beautiful spots along the way. Each morning, we enjoyed a fantastic breakfast at Smily Buffalo, where we could order à la carte from a delicious and varied menu. Everything was fresh, flavorful, and prepared with care – definitely one of the highlights of our stay. In short: Panji Panji is a peaceful, comfortable, and welcoming oasis. We would return in a heartbeat!

The staff is super! The are friendly, personal, proactive, make sure you absolutely feel at home. The in-house bistro Smiling Buffalo - were you also enjoy your breakfast - is cozy and very popular among a lot of people who drop in during the day, which add to a vibrant atmosphere. In the morning there is easy listening live music too. The bistro closes at 5 pm, so no dinner here. The lodge (we stayed downstairs) is comfy, has a lot of space and a nice terrace to relax at the end of the day. It’s just a 10 minutes scenic walk to the beach…

The pool could be better equipped and cleaner.

Panji Panji is a gorgeous, small collection of houses set in a lovely gardens with a great coffee cafe. It is situated alongside the river which leads out to the beach and the sea. We were met there to be given our keys and a tour by Wan who was so helpful. He was great through our whole stay, making sure we had everything we needed and that we were comfortable. Our house was lovely - it had plenty of space, a big comfortable bed, and a terrace outside. The pool is set in its own private garden: during our stay it was hardly used by anyone but us and the hummingbirds which come into the garden to feed from the flowers. Breakfast is taken in The Smiling Buffalo coffee house: the food was delicious, plenty of choice, the coffee is excellent, the staff all lovely. Ayisha was super helpful letting us know places of interest and arranging hire car and scooter when needed, these were dropped off outside for our convenience. We loved the location, it is so quiet. We had dusky leaf monkeys visit us during the stay and saw kingfishers and hornbill birds along the river whilst walking to the beach.

I can’t think of anything I would change, we loved our stay at Panji.

We loved the layout of the whole complex and the individual villa we were staying in The feeling of building materials being recycled and given new life was brilliant and the grounds were very well cared for. The staff were excellent- especially when I accidentally padlocked myself out of the villa ! The on site restaurant - the Smiling Buffalo - was excellent

The pool was very disappointing. The water was cloudy , with no visibility to the bottom or the sides of the pool suggesting the chemical balance in the pool water wasn’t correct and as a result we didn’t go in it. It was a real shame as we had selected the property because it had a pool.

We had an awesome stay with the kindest hosts. They helped us organize a trip to the mangrove and it was very well arranged and a good price. The house was very cute, the pool was lovely and the location was perfect: walking distance to the nice city center. We even saw some wildlife behind the hotel: otters and some Asian water monitors. And last but definetly not least: the best breakfast we have had so far! From pancakes to waffles to eggs to traditional food: it was all amazing! Also the staff really went above and beyond: we could text them for everything and after we lost our kids plush toy outside they even washed it for us the same day! For us it was the first time to have an open bathroom but it was no problem at all.

The only thing that wasn’t always great was the wifi, it was on and off in our home but might be because we were in the furthest villa! It worked fine for the television though.

Beautiful villas surrounded by rainforest-like trees. All very clean, awesome outdoor shower, and the staff were very friendly. Comfy beds and pillows and great to have the air con and a fan. Breakfast was incredible too.

We were downstairs and the room was very dark - the photos are shown with the windows open which you can do except our room was facing the cafe (which is open to the public) so we felt a bit on display when we did this. The room could have some more lights, and the bathroom needed more hooks. The room was also a bit small as there wasn’t really anywhere to put your bags except for on the couch. It was a decent walk to get to the restaurant area.

Our stay at the Panji Panji Tropical Wooden homes has been perfect. We opted for a garden view room which is a stunning elevated apartment that overlooks the garden from a large veranda or the pool from inside. The apartment is spotless and big! Stuff of dreams. The small resort is beautifully arranged around a buzzing cafe called the Smiling Buffalo which serves great food both Western and Malay. They’re coffee specialists and don’t disappoint! Another winning spot with great food choices and wonderful staff. The site is remoter than others but a great choice for accessing the more commercial strip without being in it. Cabs and walking make that super easy. It’s really close to a beach and a cluster of seaside bars. We hired a little car and headed up to the more remote beaches such as Sandy Skulls Beach. The highlight of the place is the staff. Especially the wonderful Ekin who did everything she could to make our stay as perfect as possible. We love her! Couldn’t recommend this place more if you’re looking for luxury with the informality and intimacy of a highly considered, boutique space with the service to match. Faultless.

Nothing!

The best part of our stay was Smiling Buffulo cafe, where we had our breakfasts (included). Coffee was the best on the island, and people outside of the stay came to the cafe for its quality food and drinks. The room was clean and comfortable. 15-minute walk to Cenang Beach and good restaurants.

The room was a little dark. The pool and bikes were not operational during our stay, but we enjoyed the beach a lot. We stayed during Ramadan, so we assume that it could impact some services and maintenance
