Everything really, a true authentic Mexico boutique hotel! The experience at La Joya was beautiful, exotic, scenically breathtaking at times with its rustic charm on every level of this hotel. The walk down the stairs, was thoroughly eye-appealing with colorful walls done in bright colors and Mexican tiles, exotic plants, flowers, a fountain, steps naturally blended into this organic landscape of ocean and jungle blended into the natural decor of this enchanting hotel. Our rooms (the junior suite, holds 3) were so comfortable with a new soft kingsize bed (they also brought up a new twin size mattress for my son for the week). It also had a new couch and loveseat, mini-fridge, golden marble counters with kitchenette. New air-conditioners also in individual rooms which made our stay, a perfect blend of air and comfort. All the rooms face the ocean with quaint, individualistic views of the ocean from the walk out porches with rockers, table and chairs and a hammock! The ocean views from the ocean literally steal your breath away! They have the most splendid beach I have ever seen, allowing you to swim on one side and snorkel on the other with so many tropical fish and aquatic life *BUY WATER SHOES* (you need them for foot protection while walking near coral and rocks- they also rent snorkeling equipment for $8 US dollars for 24 hours) They have a nice size pool with 2 different depths for adults and children. Most of the rooms at La Joya have accommodations for 2 people but for about $30.00 a day extra for breakfast and an extra twin bed, you can accommodate possible a child or two;ask when booking). Oswaldo and Luis will accommodate you with just about anything you need including a golfcart rental or calling the local taxi service which was punctual at 5:30 am in the morning in getting us back to the ferry on leaving day. (About $10.00 to $12.

I liked everything!

Hotel La Joya is perfectly located on the quiet side of Isla Mujeres. The ocean side view from the room balconies are perfect for waking up and relaxing in front of turquoise waters. Wonderful to have the swimming pool on top of the small local beach access. Great to have the outdoor cool shower on the way back from the local beach to rinse off. The Queen size room with two queen size beds are nice and spacious. Basic continental breakfast included is more than enough to get your day started: fruit, coffee, juice, and croissants with jams.

There is nothing negative about our La Joya experience.

This is a stunning location! If you don't need to be in the touristic centre of the island this is paradise. Most amazing sunset views from the pool and balconies. We didn't realise until we went into the fracas of the Isla centre how good we had it - just wanted to get back! Clear blue waters. If you look up best snorkelling spots, it is actually one right in front of the hotel. Great pool for adults and kids. Room was comfy and balcony in particular was super cool. Love resident cat Toto. Lots of little eateries around, including La Kinha just down the road with free pools and wharf and the excellent food at Ulan. Convenience store nearby.

If you want to snorkel, bring your own gear. Its super expensive to hire from here and not particularly good equipment. But worth snorkelling in the beach just below - heaps of fishies. If you want to hire a golf cart you can't do it from this end of the island, so prepare accordingly. Food at the pool bar is pretty good, but a fairly limited menu.

La Joya is absolutely beautiful. It feels luxurious and warm, homely, and welcoming, all at once. The decor is gorgeous, the rooms are spacious and comfortable, and you can enjoy your breakfast from your own private balcony or yard space. The hammocks are delightful, you have a glorious swimming pool as well with direct access to the ocean (water shoes recommended as ocean entry is a little rocky across this whole stretch of coast). The location is awesome: near to Punta Sur, an awesome coffee bus, fresh coconuts, restaurants, ATMs, pharmacy and more. I would highly recommend La Joya to anyone visiting the island.

Nothing negative to report. I had a magical stay.

This gem is on a cliff over looking the water. There is a stairway to get down to the water which is rocky and steep. Not exactly a beach but I braved the rocks to get in the water (my knee wishes I did not) . There is a pool on site. The decor is what sold me. It is absolutely charming with beautiful pottery everywhere, rocking chairs, hammocks on the porches. It is slightly off the beaten path however there are a few restaurants and stores not too far. I would suggest a golf cart or scooter rental for this Island it is well worth the money. There is food available on site with a limited menu, very reasonably priced. Probably worth mentioning that this property has a lot of steps, maybe not the best place for those that cant move around so easily.

Not one complaint

la Joya is a gem. It’s just as described - a boutique hotel overlooking the Mediterranean. Plenty of opportunities to relax and enjoy the view of the Sea. Our room (#4) was comfortable and clean with a lovely view of the Sea from the room and the deck. The bed was comfortable and the air conditioning was a welcome amenity. Breakfast was served every morning on the deck- a wonderful way to start the day. La Joya is located in a very quiet part of the island, with few restaurant options, which wasn’t an issue for us. Taxis are plentiful to get all around the island.

The majority of the staff were very friendly and super helpful, although the man who I think was the manager was curt. I felt like I was bothering him each time I interacted with him. They didn’t have any snorkeling gear. The process for ordering breakfast - submit a paper request every day- is very outdated. It was hard to remember to do it and there seemed to be miscommunication between the reception staff and the kitchen. They are working on updating it.

The staff was wonderful! The view is spectacular...the swimming right on property is amazing...wonderful snorkeling..It is a place with a lot of character, and the sunrises 6 minute walk away, and sunsets on premises are amazing. Juan, the cook, always is ready with a smile, and Oswaldo is an incredibly hard worker, and responds immediately to any need.

Some party boats would park at the beautiful swimming oasis this hotel has, and play their music...but we did notice that sometimes the water authorities would try to discourage it, but they can continue to try a bit harder...

This is such a unique and special hotel. From the moment we stepped through the gate and saw the beautiful pool, landscaping, and view, we were so happy. The staff are attentive, kind, and professional. It feels like the small boutique hotel it is - people are friendly, each room is unique, and the hotel small enough to feel very personal. I was traveling with my husband and daughter. We stayed in one of the suites. It was comfortable and the space large enough for all three of us. The charter boats that come near the hotel during the afternoon can be loud, but only one day did the music seem to be a lot. Otherwise, it was fine. Each night, they were gone by 8. My favorite part - their very cute and friendly cat who came to visit each evening. We left there to continue our travels and were sad our next hotel wasn't this one.

Hotel La Joya is a hidden gem, with the most glorious sunsets and ocean views from every room in the southern part of Isla Mujeres. We loved the authentic Mexican feel of the property and decor. What makes this property extra special though was both Oswaldo and Hector who so lovingly take care of the property, the hotel, and the guests needs. This is a very special place because of them. We were so comfortable in our room and you cannot beat the location. You are within walking distance to a bunch of very cool and delicious restaurants, cool shops, beach clubs, and a quick taxi to town, or jump on the local bus that comes every half hour for 20 pesos ($1 US) - great way to see the island and experience some locals. This was our first time on Isla Mujeres and we were blown away by its beauty, the spectacular beaches, the delicious fresh food everywhere we went, the safety of the island, and the friendliness of the people. We LOVED avsolutely everything about it!

If you have any type of mobility issues and have difficulty with stairs then this is not the hotel for you.

The property was so beautiful ! The staff was exceptional, and we loved being at the south end of the island away from the hoards of tourists.

The area right off of our hotel seem to be the popular destination for day, catamaran and large boats. This would not have been a problem, except they all loved to blare their music while anchored. Sound travels across the water and it was very close so it became quite annoying. This of course is not the hotels fault but it is a factor on whether you can put up with that during the day and as we did well into one night.
