Convenient to find (even in the evening). Cozy atmosphere and atmosphere, we were greeted by a cool guy (cheerful and friendly), the carriage was clean, and the toilet and shower too, by the way. It was comfortable to sleep! They poured us hot water and helped us with any questions.

There was not enough general light, the lamp was dim and when the weather turned cold, the air conditioner also blew cold. Sleeping in the cold is great, but changing clothes is not so great, but we later read that we could ask the staff for help with this. So if you are cold, go see the staff :)

A very positive and unique experience; I traveled with my two children (7 and 11 yrs) and wanted them to have a not-ordinary experience, unlike the usual hotel and touristic village. The facility is well-organized and functional, and the staff is always available, with a practical and informal spirit. We often dined there in the hostel, and they were very helpful in lending us plates, cutlery, reheating food, etc. The location is excellent, well-connected by bus, metro and train to any part of the city, stations and the airport. Excellent value for money, and a meaningful and unique experience. Only one suggestion: organize waste sorting with separate bins.

Loved the fact that this accommodation was different. The staff were so lovely and very accommodating. Because of the lack of space where you sleep, having the buffet carriage and an outdoor space, you have room to eat, chat or be on a device. It was right next to a major train, bus and tram station with only a 10 minute trip into central Amsterdam on the train. The bathroom facilities were clean. There were activities available such as board games, crocheting and books! A basic bar if you needed a drink and several food options at the train station next door, including a very small supermarket serving food on the go.

Due to the limited space, storing your luggage can be an issue. You weren't given a key to lock/unlock your cabin you had to ask staff to do this. But they were very responsive to lock the cabin when you left/arrived, so it wasn't an issue for us. As it was a train carriage, the walls were very thin, so you could hear everything being said in the next cabin, but again it didn't bother us as it was a sleep train carriage after all!

Such a quirky find! What a brilliant idea to convert retired coaches into a fun place to stay. I'd definitely stay here again. Loved the vibe, reminded me of backpacking places in Asia! Also loved the fact there was a sink in each compartment, and we could store a few picnic basics in the fridge at reception. Note however that this is a LODGE, not a hostel, so don't expect regular hostel facilities. Location was brilliant - really easy to get into Central Station and other places too. Definitely recommend hiring bikes from here - our day cycling the canals was one of my faves in our whole 28-day trip!

As you'd expect, there is very little space for large or heavy luggage. Worked fine for us as we had backpacks, so could haul them up to the luggage racks at the top of the compartment /stand them on the floor. But you'd struggle with large suitcases 😜 Shower facilities are absolutely fine, but basic (as you'd expect, on a train!)

Location - by the main station outside of Amsterdam but NOT noisy at all. Staff were great, cannot fault them at all and reception is 24hrs. There are facilities to eat your own food, you could leave a couple of bits in their fridge, borrow plates/cutlery etc, make your own hot drinks. Really great. The breakfast did look good but we didn’t avail of it ourselves. You can buy beer/wine to drink in the dining carriage or on the outdoor patio, too. Rooms were quirky and fun as something a bit different.

Obviously, being old train sleeping berths they ARE very tiny, we had 2 together so the dividing wall was opened to make a larger area but space was really tight for 6 people. Separate shower room and toilets in each carriage so it just meant you had to be patient, but also that people were walking to and fro past the berths a lot. 2 nights everyone was very considerate, final night a small group were not and constantly talked loudly in the corridor/slammed doors till late then again from 5am. Luck of the draw who you get. You have to get the staff to lock your room when you leave and open up for you as berths use original door locks, just a bit annoying for them.

Perfect location, 3 minute walk to train station, nice and quiet, really enjoyed the odd rumble of trains passing. A couple of the showers are tiny and look awful, however, next to them there are huge showers that are really hot and powerful. The place was constantly being cleaned, the bedding was clean, beds were wider than expected for on a train and they were super comfy. The room was perfect temperature. No room to swing a cat but it didn't affect us at all. We had a carry on bag each so could store them easily behind the ladder or next to the top bunk. The staff were all friendly. Loads of room to sit out. Would have liked a fire but it was a bit chilly and rainy. Only had to wait 2 minutes for one train, they are really regular and get into Central Amsterdam in about 10 minutes or back to the airport in about 20. Loved this place.

The only think I can think of was they didn't have oat milk and I'm lactose intolerant so couldn't get a brew. Coffee shop next door had it though and they let you store your own food on the train so I could have bought some if I really wanted to. The safety ropes were confusing as we couldn't quite get them to fit, again, not really an issue. We made do and no one fell out. If we were that bothered we could have asked staff to sort it. My hair straighteners wouldn't work properly with the plug adapters so couldn't use them. That is the only thing I can think of that had an impact on my stay. It was brilliant! Well worth the money, would definitely go back again.

The location was absolutely amazing - literally next to Amsterdam Sloterdijk station. The decor both interior and exterior was beautiful, with games and activities to play. When it comes to the rooms they were very exciting - it felt like you were on a sleeper train. The beds were very comfortable to sleep in to. The community area outside was fabulous and the air-conditioning in the shared activity rooms was a blessing (especially as we were there during a 35 degree heat wave). Staff were so friendly, talking us through things, letting us fill up water bottles etc. As two young girls we both felt incredibly safe as well. And finally, the facilities were perfect for what they were and a nice cold shower was exactly what we needed Absolutely fabulous, will (and have already recommended) to everyone

Almost nothing but... The only problem was that you couldn't lock your door from the outside (there wasn't a key) but the reception did offer a safe for any necessities so if we had felt we wanted to do that we would've The cabins themselves did get quite hot but I'm sure that was only because we were there during a huge heatwave

recently stayed at Train Lodge Amsterdam for two nights with my two 11-year-old sons, and I can’t thank the staff enough—especially Nick and Nathalie—for their kindness and support during our visit. One of my sons fell ill on our first night, and the room’s air conditioning wasn’t cooling properly. The staff acted quickly and helped us move to a more comfortable room. Nick went above and beyond the next day, providing clear directions to the nearest pharmacy so I could get the medication we needed—thanks to him and Nathalie, we didn’t have to cut our trip short. The lodge itself is clean, quirky, and a fantastic place for kids who love exploring. Nick even recommended a lovely beach just three bus stops away—Bus 369 got us there in no time! A big thank you to the Train Lodge team. We truly felt taken care of, and I’d happily recommend this place to families visiting Amsterdam. Warm regards, Alberto

Quiet, cosy, affordable and just a great experience to have in general. Staff were welcoming and accommodating. Close to central Amsterdam. The cafe next to the lodge was amazing too.

The rooms are (understandably) very small, we were a couple in a 3 bed and it was so so tight as it was we were dreading a third person arriving lol. I didn’t like the fact we couldn’t lock our own door (you have to ask reception to let you in and lock your door behind you) I completely understand why but I’m an overthinker and I was worried they’d forget to do it or our stuff were at risk.

Right next door to the train station which costs a few euro and only 5mins to Dam Centraal. Lovely outside area that hosted a wide range of guests of all walks of life, nice to sit out talking til late. The cabins are cosy and clean and suited our needs. The bathrooms were clean with products available from past travellers (in a neatly stored box by reception) if you have forgotten anything. Staff super friendly and helpful.

No ability to lock own room - not necessarily an issue but just to make aware, the staff are the only ones in possession of the key (traditional train carriage key!) Extra pillow needed - again not an issue. Just grabbed one from the top bunk
