We booked the Pinot Villa Room #9, it was spacious, clean and warm with a lovely rural view, situated on a slightly busy road. Could do with a better way of presenting the modest continental breakfast facility, whilst the utilities were functional, it didnt reflect the manor in which this suite is marketed. We used the complimentary choice of wine, but when we went to have a complimentary wine tasting they had shut the cellar door half hour earlier than advertised , a group of 4 other people also turned away at the time as well. Externally the ground area needed a good going over, the deck/ balcony needs a bit of attention.

Everything was amazing. Easy checkin. The bed was so huge and comfy. Nice comfy sofa and a beautiful little balcony. Very high ceilings. We stayed in 12 hotels in the last three weeks and this had the most informative compendium of them all regarding the property. Was nice to read the history on the villas. We were in the last unit (15) and even though it is close to the main road, there was little traffic to notice the sound (or perhaps were just not fussy enough to care about it). The shower pressure is amazing. If you are a skilled driver it’s easier to reverse your car into the spot beside your unit. Even though there was only one car in the park between the other two units, we decided to keep it free in case someone else was checking in to unit 14. The continental breakfast is a nice touch. We had whole meal bread, butters, jams, marmite, plenty of milk, weetbix, cornflakes, muesli, plunger coffee and fresh orange juice. Beautiful! There is also a minibar for their three different wines and very reasonable prices.

The bathroom is fully tiled and there is not a curtain for the shower. Although this is absolutely fine, the water does get on the basin bench, so just be careful of your toiletries if you’re tall and like your shower height high!

The location of the Gatehouse rooms is superb - just next to the tasting room and cafe. We had a leisurely Saturday morning and then popped to the tasting room for our free tasting. It was lovely to arrive to wine in our room late on Friday night so that we could enjoy a glass without having to go back out again. The shower was massive and very comfortable to use. Everything was very clean. Every staff member we spoke to was friendly and helpful. The view was gorgeous and they have done a wonderful job of making each gatehouse room feel fairly private and portioning out the space so that you feel do you do have some privacy when you are outside. There is no heatpump in the Gatehouse rooms so just be aware! We were very happy to have a fan and that worked really well to keep us cool in the evening.

Not the accommodation's fault but if you are a light sleeper, bring earplugs as it is close to the road so you can hear all the cars whooshing by. There is also a fair amount of noise from the plumbing in the other rooms e.g. when next door flushed the toilet it was quite loud in the night (again, I am a very light sleeper). It was lovely to have a simple continental breakfast, but we felt it could have been slightly more generous for the price paid e.g. enough to have 2 coffees each or a museli each, a few more spreads etc.

Right from the moment I meet Anita (and Georgie) on check in I felt so valued and appreciated. I loved the room, it had everything needed and more. The continental breakfast and wine tasting was the cherry on top! Grateful for those things is an under statement. I loved the view on balcony and it was private. TBH I’ve never stayed anywhere that I have left and felt that it was really good value for money but this stay was just that! I have and will be recommending Margrain Villas to everyone. Thank you to the amazing staff for being amazing!

There really was nothing I could fault

The gatehouse villa has some great original features and a superb view of the vineyard. However, I prefer staying in one of the villas with a balcony, rather than right next to the tasting room garden. My fault, booked the wrong room. Gatehouse good if you book the whole unit, otherwise not very private.

You used to have homemade muesli and cereal in containers with fresh jams in pots. Felt like a much nicer breakfast than the current packet of each type of cereal and sachets of butter and jams. Old system more boutique and classy.

Good breakfast for an in-room, from-the-fridge breakfast. Good value for money on the breakfast, comfy and clean beds, good looking indoor and outdoor.

Given that plates, kettle, toaster, cutlery and a fridge are there, why not a basic, small microwave? I t wouldn't take up much room, and it could come handy. $70 at the Warehouse, and it wouldn't be used that much, I'm pretty sure. Also, you need to put some shower shelves / shower basket in the shower: the suction cups ones are $10 at the Warehouse. Much better than having to put the shampoos on the floor.

loved that a continental breakfast was included. loved the peace and tranquility and the views after a busy day. loved the balcony looking over the paddocks that felt very private. Loved the attention to detail such as the addition of a 3rd set of cutlery, a third chair, plates etc for my last minute extra addition

The fridge wasnt very large considering the breakfast goodies were in there so didnt leave alot of room for our own things... wasnt alot of room to put our toiletries but these are just minor things

Situated on a beautiful vineyard within a close walk from town, this is the perfect location for wine tasting and relaxation. There are some other wineries within walking distance. The room was delightful, comfortable and fairly spacious. Some simple breakfast items were in the fridge. We received a complimentary wine tasting and their wines are lovely. They have also started making a delicious gin, for those so inclined. The staff are very warm and friendly. We had a perfect stay.

We absolutely loved our stay at Margrain. We stayed in the gatehouse which was across the road from the main vineyard. The room was really well priced. There was plenty of space and even continental breakfast. So close to many of the great Martinborough vineyards. The lovely lady who checked us in gave heaps of info. We were a bit worried that it would be cold because it’s an old house but the heater kept us nice and warm! Would absolutely come back.

It would be great if there could be a little shelf in the shower to put your shampoo, etc. The bed was a little uncomfortable with some springs sticking into your back. We were sad that the cafe was closed but we still got a wonderful free tasting from the cellar door next to the gatehouse.

For a one night stay the room bed and breakfast was great. The room would be improved with the addition of a sink to clean the cups. Plus a couple of large mugs would have been good. We enjoyed our stay and would recommend Margrain Vineyard to our friends.

We didn't like using the toilet sink to wash the dishes. We didn't like the shower as there was no way to contain the water, the whole floor got soaked, and the shower head was not good, it was like standing under a tap, not a shower. You could do with a blind over the big high window.
