The staff greeted us with enthusiasm on our arrival! Our rooms were exceptionally clean and next to each other. We had booked a tour for the following day, and they allowed us to stay in our rooms for a bit longer past the usual checkout time, which was nice. Parking was easy. EVERYTHING is close to this hotel. For example, Liquorland, next door, recently opened New World, a gas station, and McDonald's, which are directly across the road. Nice little restaurants within flat walking distance. They have definitely thought of everything as the rooms were well appointed with a microwave, fridge, fan, etc, and a very informative flyer. I had booked tours earlier, not realising that this hotel is the meeting point, so that was an added bonus! Although the hotel is across two levels, you can move luggage without climbing stairs.

The only improvement would be the addition of air conditioning, but in saying that, the fan was sufficient.

This motel had the friendliest staff I encountered on my entire NZ trip. The room was spacious and the bed was extremely comfortable. Despite obviously being a little 'vintage', the kitchenette and bathroom were very clean, which impressed me. They also added lovely little touches like free fresh milk for teas/coffees and a welcome homemade biscuit.

The room was very warm due to large windows facing the sun. There is a fan to mitigate this, but the rooms would probably benefit from some AC or from keeping the curtains drawn before the guests arrive. I found the lock on the door a bit fickle and tricky - the lock didn't seem to work on some occasions and when I left the room to pop to the supermarket, I came back and it had blown wide open despite definitley being locked.

I initially planned on staying one night and am happy to have extended to two nights. The Motel is across the road from New World, BP with small cafe, KFC, and close by is a pizza restaurant and liquor store. A short walk towards town centre are a variety of interesting shops including restaurants, bakeries and cafes. This all adds up to the Forgotten World Motel being in a convenient location. The front office and room service staff were all very pleasant and helpful. I would be very happy to stay there again.

Nothing arose or was present that I did not like

The motel looks old from outside, but inside it has been revamped and updated and it feels like a very modern motel. My rooms was very clean,warm and functional. Bathroom was all modern and only downside was less water flow than I'm used to, but it was fine. Cooking gear (frypan etc...) was in good new condition and I was able to cook up a good dinner easily. Wifi was the fastest I think I've had in a motel anywhere!

Kitchenette was very basic, but did the job fine.

Professional, friendly customer service from front of house staff - sorry I did not get her name. The room was ready for an early check in and key and unit unlocked. I really appreciated they went out of there way to accommodate my additional request. Clean room, all amenities we needed and comfy beds and handy location to supermarket, petrol and McDonalds across the road.

We stayed on the ground floor and could hear the other guests [children] running up and down the mezzanine balcony [through our ceiling] at 9.25pm at night. Our children were asleep and thankfully only the adults were woken or distracted by this. The same children making lots of noise outside our room when they left [next morning]. Motel did not have sky tv to watch the All Black rugby game or Olympics - so we watched them on our iPads.

122NZD for 1 night was good value. They serve a good breakfast at extra cost. We stayed a night before doing the Tongariro northern circuit and it is a good place to stay as there is a grocery store across the street and an outdoors store close by. Overall the entire stay was pleasant and I would recommend it. Good to know is that they offer a bunch of local excursions that looked like a lot of fun. Sadly they didn't fit in our itinerary.

The rooms were the right size for us. We booked two rooms for a family of 5 adults and 2 kids, and there were enough beds for everyone. The rooms were clean. They have a complete set of cutlery and glassware. Great choice of tea and coffee too. The beds were comfortable that we slept in and the lady from reception was kind to give us a late check out. The toiletries also smelled nice that we didn't use the soap we brought. All in all it's a great place to stay in exploring Taumarunui and National Park. Will definitely come back.

I slept like a log in a very comfortable bed. It had an electric blanket which heated the bed up very quickly. It was after dark when I arrived so it was great to be able to get to sleep quickly. Thank you and keep up the good work.

I can't recall the shower but somewhere I stayed the water pressure wasn't great. Not sure if it was here though.

Beds super comfy - great night's sleep. Exceptional reception service that accommodated family rooms close together and a late check out. Ever so grateful "thank you"

Room14 - the crockery cupboard smelt musty. We washed dishes before use, even though they were clean. The smell was noticeable (maybe airfresher inside cupboard to mask smell). - the microwave door button was sticky and had to press it about 3 times each time we opened it. Older model - push button latch on its way out I think. - carpark for room 14 under the stairs was too narrow for our SUV, it didn't matter because we had 2 rooms booked and parked elsewhere.

I booked this motel because of the forgotten world adventure trip I had booked and the start of that was from the motel reception

Room 1 was upstairs right beside the main door into the back of reception that went BANG every time someone went through it as it slammed shut also the echo of voices from below traveled so easily at night so not quiet. The wind picked up on night 2 and the front door rattled in its frame so I had to stuff a towel in the gap at the bottom of the door to shut it up.
