A beautiful ex-palace with some fantastic rooms and a stunning tower. The town is a marble mining town, so everything is made of marble, very nice. The swimming pool and sun area is clean, tidy and spread out, the experience is one of luxury, which adds to a holiday. There are some great restaurants in town. I wish I had stayed another night.

The staff started off a little institutional but I think it is just their manner, they were very helpful, breakfast is good, but they had run out of butter when I wanted it, but that is OK, and the peach was one of the tastiest.

The location of this hotel is fantastic, right at the top of the hill in Estromoz with fantastic views all around. Our room (superior double), had views overlooking the town and was very spacious and comfortable and there is a lift (which is unusual in these very old hotels in this area). This was a palace so it does still have a certain air of some formality about it, but it is amazing and considering how old it is, has been made very comfortable. You can walk to the top of the hotel tower which has a 360 degree panoramic view of the surrounding landscape and is just amazing. The staff were very helpful and friendly and we did have dinner in the hotel, which was exceptional and the staff very attentive. There is so much to offer in this hotel and it is well worth staying there. The breakfast was fantastic, offering so much choice and again the dining room - very palatial as is everywhere in this hotel. There is plenty of parking space outside and a lovely swimming pool and terrace to sit and enjoy your Alentejo wines. I would definitely recommend staying here.

This hotel is in an old quite spectacular castle, so many inside facilities are traditional rather than modern which we were totally happy with. The location is on a hill, a five minute fairly steep walk into town. The public areas and restaurant are grand and have wonderful views of countryside and the private garden. There is a good pool and surrounding area. The breakfast was very good and plentiful. Our room was large and comfortable within the context of being traditionally furnished. Staff were friendly and efficient. There is also abundant free and safe parking on the square outside the hotel, but be careful not to become blocked in on a Sunday during the nearby church services.

We booked our room on the basis of it being either a twin or a double. We would have preferred a double but ended up with a twin. Hotel staff explained that the hotel only has ten double rooms and had we expressed an interest for one in the comments section of our booking, they would have done their best meet our needs. In the end, it didn’t cause us a problem. Our room was traditionally furnished which we liked, but the bathroom would have benefitted by being much more modern. This would have enhanced our stay. As it was, the bathroom was totally adequate but rather dark and resembled a room form the 70s or 80s.

The hotel has a nice balance between the historic and modern. Our room was comfortable, clean, and had an excellent view. We enjoyed watching flocks of swallows play outside our window. The staff were eager to make us comfortable and well looked after. The breakfast was very enjoyable band the pool was a real treat. My husband and I came to celebrate my birthday, but we did not mention that to the hotel. The front desk noticed the date and surprised us with a fancy small cake and a bottle of champagne!

breakfast was very good with multiple options. the history of the hotel, and the overall aesthetic was really cool.

the room itself could have been better, as well as the things provided. it did not meet expectations for a 5 star experience in our opinion. there were things missing: - a full length mirror - bathrobes - a table to keep the suitcase are things one takes for granted, but wasnt provided. And the bathroom was small, with the shower hard to get into. Bidet was extremely cramped, and honestly, would have been better if it were not there.

We had a wonderful time at Pousada Castelo de Estremoz! It was the best of our Pousada-tour through Alentejo, absolut a classic one with a beautiful atmosphere! And not renovated to death!!! The room was top,the beds perfect and also the service. We loved the hidden spaces in that building: the tower and the secret chapel on the first floor :) and of course the destination, everything could be done by walking. Highest recommendation – we are coming back! p.s.: stunning breakfast in a stunning room!

Beautiful, historic castle that is well maintained while keeping period decor. It is comfortable and inviting. Really enjoyed the various seating areas to relax and chat. Of course, the highlight is the ability and freedom to roam the castle...inside and out. Unfortunately it was raining most of our stay so we didn't get to explore the grounds any, but they looked lovely and extensive from the windows. Breakfast (included) had a nice variety of fresh breads, fruits, eggs, cheeses, meats, etc. Dinner menu is a bit limited but the food was prepared perfectly. Staff very helpful and friendly.

The Breakfast was wonderful . Fantastic selection and variety . Very spacious dining room , very comfortable . Lovely setting to eat in. The food was excellent . Service very good . The food was refilled quickly if items were low in stock.

When I tried to call from Canada when booking these rooms , I could not get through, however email questions were answered quickly. When we went out one night and got back late, the main doors were locked, for safety , which we did not know . Locking the doors is a great idea , but just let the guest know the doors will be locked at a certain time , and what to do , Knock/ring bell etc. Doors were opened fairly quickly when we knocked .We would have loved it if there were adjoining /connecting rooms , however we were accommodated with two rooms beside each other .

Took so long to serve a class of wine in the Bar that at the end left and had a class elsewhere. When arriving to breakfast there was no staff the first 10 min but all was served and ready. Was just slighly confusin that would be able to start unless someone arrives. However all the staff that i met were friendly.

Everything about this Pousada is exceptional. Beautiful building, beautiful furniture and antiquities, fabulous location and views, great pool area, lovely helpful and relaxed staff and the most exquisite breakfast for every taste. Sharp intake of breath when I saw the breakfast room for the first time! The restaurant is very good and we ate there twice. For sure we will stay there again.
