It was an amazing little oase in the middle of a great town Evora! We liked the swimmingpool, other Guests and especially the hospitality and delicious fresh made breakfast! 😋 And the wine festival was also good with nice people from the town!

Victor went above a beyond to provide the best stay. Great breakfast, beautiful pool in the courtyard to cool off after sightseeing. Victor would bring nice buckets of ice and wine to make your experience extra special. Good location, close to the central square and many places to eat and drink.

Victor and Louisa enabled a wonderful four-day experience. They are impeccable hosts, living in a historic, remarkably elegant home in the heart of a beautiful UNESCO-listed town and region. The many points of interest throughout their home offer not only insight into their lives—their family having lived there for five generations—but also into the history and style of the Alentejo. The grounds, garden, and pools provide a beautiful space to rest and refresh, especially during the warmer months. Their generosity, thoughtfulness, and attentive care are truly exceptional. I can’t recommend a stay here highly enough, should you have the good fortune.

Loved the hospitality shown us by Victor and Luisa. Loved the property, which has been in their family for generations. Loved the garden surrounding the pool - succulents, flowers, lemon trees - a peaceful oasis. Loved the location, which is walking distance to all there is to see in charming, historic Evora center. Breakfast was simple but good and plentiful. Ample restaurants and artisan shops nearby. Victor kindly reserved a parking spot in his garage for our rental for a small fee, so we could leave the car on arrival and not have to think about it until departure.

Very charming home in the hart of Evora, beautifully maintained and homey but elegant at the same time.. Guests rooms are located in the large inner courtyard, around really nice pool and perfectly designed garden space with lounges etc.. it is so peaceful here.. no noise from the street, we had a great sleep.Most of all we want to thank our host Victor- who made all this possible for us .. He is just amazing, super friendly and caring ,so helpful .. from the moment he opened the door for us to his home until our last day- impeccable- he really wants his guests to have the best experience. Fantastic breakfast- again- prepared with care, with various items such as fresh fruit, cheese and ham, fresh bread, great coffee served in a gorgeous room in the main house.. Guests rooms have good size,are comfortable,bright not cluttered and super clean. Victor has excellent knowledge about the area, gives great advice and excellent recommendations for lunch or dinner. He made couple of reservations for us and all of them turned out to be super successful. We will be back.

It was absolutely perfect!

I appreciated the peaceful environment of Vintage Guest House. My last evening I sat outside, listening to the birds as the day came to an end. Owners Victor and Luisa live on the grounds, which means more personal touches than at most places I've stayed, such as a bowl of delicious little dark chocolate candies in a room that guests pass through. I had to control myself to not take all of them! Victor really goes out of his way to accommodate guests. When I arrived I realized I really needed to get my hair cut, so he called someone who was just up the street, booked an appointment, and I was able to show up 15 minutes later. The wifi in my room wasn't working, so I was up early one morning in a common area on my tablet. Victor went ahead and got breakfast ready for me a half hour early since I was up. Breakfasts were good, with a variety of fruits, breads, and other things. They had the best yogurt I've come across in my travels! Victor always made sure nothing ran out as long as guests were eating. I also liked that there is one large table where people can eat, in addition to two smaller ones. Both mornings I sat at the larger table and got to know people from other countries - Singapore and France, which was nice for a solo traveler like me. I realize some travelers aren't interested in getting to know other travelers, but for me a little conversation over breakfast is an important part of travel. Most hotels and guest houses today don't lend themselves to interacting much with other travelers.

It would have been nice if the wifi in my room worked, but it was a minor inconvenience at a place where I hope to return one day!

The owner/proprietor is the friendliest, most helpful, and most patient we have met in our years of travel. We were delayed over and over again, so arrived late. I would have been annoyed in his shoes, but he seemed happy to welcome us in after hours. We then had to leave earlier than usual and again he accommodated this special request. Breakfast was exceptional, the courtyard is a haven, and the whole town of Evora was nicer and less touristy than some of the other places we visited (I really liked the market in Evora - much less stressful than the Time Out in Lisbon). We were there in March, so didn't try the pool, but it was open, clean, and didn't seem too cold. Incidentally, as to value, the second best place we stayed was in Sintra, and was very luxurious, but was also almost exactly twice the price.

Victor is such a warm, welcoming, excellent host. The backyard is beautiful. The pool is a real highlight. Great breakfast with yogurt, fruits, breads, meats and cheese - always a perfect start to your day. The breakfast is the same each day, but it’s great for folks needing a good, fresh start to the morning. Our room was on the smaller side, with no place to store clothing. It can feel a bit crammed depending on your luggage and whether you’re traveling solo or with another person…but you’re not visiting Évora to sit in a bedroom, so it worked okay for us. We did miss having a TV just to watch news right before bed, but it’s a small sacrifice for such a lovely host, a wonderful private backyard pool, and only steps to the main square in Évora. At over 30 degrees on some days, you’ll be happy you had Victor’s pool to cool down in after long days of strolling around this fantastic city. Can’t emphasize enough the incredible value of this place. For any curly-haired folks like my partner, your travel-friendly diffuser attachments won’t work well on the blow dryer provided. Recommend bringing your own blow dryer. The blow dryer provided is a very different model, likely quite retro (attached to a hose, flat head). Not the greatest, but my partner got the job done with some creativity and patience.

My husband and I loved our stay at Casa do Escritor! Victor and I exchanged a few emails before we arrived, he was very helpful with suggestions regarding wine tasting and restaurants. He suggested we visit the charming medieval town of Monsaraz which we wouldn't have known about otherwise. Our day trip Monsaraz for the was definitely a highlight for us. Our room was very comfortable and clean. Breakfasts each morning were delicious and we enjoyed sitting in the beautiful courtyard in the afternoons. It was a bit cool to use the pool but it definitely looked inviting. The hotel is in a great location and quiet in the evenings. We would definitely recommend Casa do Escritor to friends and would stay here again.

We loved our stay at Casa do Escritor. The room and location was perfect for us and Victor and Luisa were so very helpful and welcoming to us and were never far away if we needed advice. We loved having breakfast in the dining room and a glass of wine by a fire in the living room. I even sat on a lounge chair by the pool (in December!) and read a book for a few hours. My husband and I had been traveling for a while and it was good to just take a break. Our room and bed was so comfortable that I thought, “If I were sick in vacation, this would be a good place to rest.” I would love to come back in warmer weather to enjoy the pool!

I have no complaints- I loved it!
