Great view. Stylish and clean rooms. Good value restaurant. Superb value massages, less than 20£ for a 60min Balinese massage.

The music in the lobby and especially in the massage parlor, would expect something more relaxing. You cannot get a Grab or Gojek in Amed area apparently (some taxi mafia does not allow it). But you can use the Grab app to get a pricing of your trip. We needed to go to Seminyak which Grab priced at 600k, the cheapest taxi the hotel could get us was 900k.. 50% more. I would expect a 5 stars hotel to be able to get me better deals than that.. The trip to Amed is long, my brother got sick so I tried to cancel the non refundable night to spare it, hotel did not accept despite 2 days notice, Ive known more flexible hotels.

The service was excellent, and the rooms were beautifully designed. The food was delicious and nicely presented. The staff were very polite and friendly, making us feel welcome. The shuttle service was well-organized and flexible, which we really appreciated. Having a jacuzzi in our room was a great highlight, especially on rainy days.

There were a few small inconsistencies during our stay. Insects were noticeable in the evenings, which was a bit inconvenient. The cleaning was done very quickly, and towels were not replaced unless specifically requested. These were minor issues but worth mentioning.

The hotel itself is beautiful, with well-maintained premises that exude a sense of luxury and tranquility. The rooms are spacious, clean, and tastefully decorated, providing a comfortable and relaxing environment. The amenities offered are top-notch, including a stunning pool, an elegant dining area where the breakfast was a highlight of each morning. Take into consideration that the hotel is located on a top of the mountain, and you will need to take a special car arranged by the hotel to reach it. The journey takes about 20 minutes and includes a bumpy road, adding a bit of adventure to your arrival.

A bit more efficiency in their service would have elevated the experience even further.

There’s an excellent variety of breakfast options, and the views are absolutely stunning. We highly recommend enjoying breakfast on your villa’s veranda. Upon arrival, we were impressed by the professionalism of the staff, particularly Poppy, who provided a warm introduction to the hotel and its facilities. We also want to thank Karang, who went above and beyond to help us arrange transportation back after dinner, even while off duty. His dedication to outstanding service truly made a difference!

Some finishes in the villa could use a bit more attention, but overall, we had a very enjoyable experience.

We booked a private pool lodge (No. 10) which was very nice, near by the restaurant. It has a great view down to the ocean, but has still a lot of privacy. We also liked the restaurant and the food, especially the breakfast. The staff was great, all very service minded and friendly. This part was 10 of 10.

In general it is also a bit noisy ( tuned scooters early in the morning etc.) - if expecting s.th different from this remote place. We had a lot of trouble with the communication before and until arriving at the lodge. Especially around the transfer. The road was not a problem for us, but all this confusion about this pickup point, even in connection with the events. The events we booked ( market&cooking and snorkel) were unprofessional and lousy organized. Especially the beach/village next to the hotel is very messy and dirty (choosen for snorkel). Amed beach is still worse, but might be the better choice. And without events it did get a bit boring after 2 days up there in the mountain…

Mathis Lodge in Amed is a peaceful escape tucked high in the hills, with incredible views over the coastline and jungle. The lodges are beautifully designed and feel really private, and the infinity pool is a standout. Staff were super friendly and made everything feel effortless. Just note, it’s a bit remote, so you’ll need to take a buggy shuttle up a steep track. Their on-site restaurant, Asmat, is just as special. We loved having breakfast there with panoramic views, and the mix of local and international dishes was really well done. It’s a great spot for a relaxed lunch or a romantic dinner, especially at sunset. If you’re after somewhere quiet, scenic, and a bit out of the ordinary, this place is worth it.

Road quality

Stunning views, wonderful service! We stayed 5 nights with restaurant meals twice daily + 2x 60 min massages + hired a scooter for a day and the total came to under $700 AUD. Villas are clean and fairly private with housekeeping tidying daily. The staff are so welcoming and provide amazing service both in person and through WhatsApp communication prior/during our stay and THE FOOD IS DELICIOUS!!! Not a single bad meal 110% recommend to anyone wanting a relaxing, beautiful place to stay. We will be back 🤗

Nothing negative but just be aware that paths are quite steep and sometimes uneven. Also service and government taxes are not included in restaurant or spa services (but they deserve every cent).

Very unique, located at 500 m high the view on the volcanoes and the sea is breathtaking. The Papua style design of the lodges and restaurant is original and beautiful. The swimming pool is extraordinary, real wow! Mr Koman, the manager, is great having a personal touch with all his guests and in leading his team, 100% of the employees are super friendly and professional. We enjoyed breakfast and dinner with nicely cooked meals, a good restaurant as well 😉.

The problem is the access road, it is in very very bad condition, not what you expect to reach a 4 stars hotel, it takes 20 mns of a very bumpy and very steep track, this can be improved, it’s simple investment decision. Walking in the resort can be challenging for some due to extreme steepness of the road.

The best thing here is the Staff, that make your experience here so wonderful - a big big thank you to all of you! Everything we needed we just WhatsApped and within minutes we had an answer and the service provided. We stayed one day longer than initially planned and would have stayed even longer if we had more time. The rooms are beautifully decorated, comfortable with all necessary amenities. The Pool area is also very nice and the views are amazing, you can really relax and enjoy life here. Also the restaurant is quite good offering several options from western to local dishes. Everything I tried during our stay was good and the prices are also reasonable. You are in the middle of Nature, as such please consider that there could be some insects roaming around, however if you keep the doors to the room closed, than the few that could make it inside are usually taken care of by the lovely geckos protecting you.

If I want to be picky I could say two things that could be improved: there is no body lotion (just the usual shower amenities) in the room and the wines in the restaurant could be better, something more high quality having New Zealand and Australia within acceptable shipping distance. Perhaps something to pay attention to is that the last shuttle up is at 22:00, hence I do not know how you can come up in case you decide to have a couple of drinks on a Saturday night in one of the bars/restaurants in town. But I also did not ask them, perhaps there is an option.

The location is dreamy. Well maintained well set up. Very clean. Rich breakfast and a good menu. The infinity pool is very nicely designed and very inviting. The staff are very courteous very well trained and very polite and efficient. The bedroom is cleaned before tou finish breakfast.

The way up is very steep drive on a narrow one vehicle road which hardly has any tarmac left to make the drive feel safe. The hotel offers golf buggies boosted with really strong engines and you can feel the breaks are also pretty good. Skilled and careful drivers are managing the run which starts at a pick up point in Amed. The only think that worries me is that there is little safety offered in most of the buggies. If you are not a bit adventurous you are not going to be very pleased. It got me worried on occasion.
