Louis and Marina were friendly and helpful, suggesting places to visit and giving information about the Tongariro Alpine Crossing so that we could plan the best route. We had the packed lunch which was very good. There are lots of things to do and walks to choose from in the area, from 15 minutes to full day. We opted to drive ourselves to the Crossing Walk, but there are pick up and drop off options. When we wanted a more chilled day, Marina suggested the Gondola and that was well worth doing for the stunning film location scenery. The suite we had was spacious, with a comfortable bed, a sitting area with sofa and a kitchen, which had everything we needed. The garden is lovely thanks to the hard work of Marina's dad. It was very useful to have the use of a washing machine and drying room with powder provided and no need to search for coins. Louis and Marina contacted us with offers of help prior to our arrival, including the offer to pick us up from a bus if needed. There is a takeaway very close to the lodge and a good pub/restaurant just a few minutes walk. There is a village store a few minutes drive away. The lodge has a resident cat, always a welcome bonus for us.

Nothing not to like. This is traditionally homely accommodation and we were glad to have a 3 night stay with such kind hosts.

Tongariro Crossing Lodge was a great place to stay for our family (parents, 2 adult daughters). Our main purpose was to do the Tongariro Alpine Crossing the next day. However, after consulting with Louis (owner) and looking at the predicted cloud cover, we opted to delay the hike an extra day Louis kindly suggested alternative shorter hikes/activities near by, which were very enjoyable. Louis had also reserved spots for us on the shuttle (to/from hike) but upon our arrival and discussion, we decided to drive ourselves to the carpark which ended up being a good idea since the day we hiked was extremely cloudy, not clearing up until about 1pm. Driving ourselves allowed us to be flexible and enjoy the stunning views for another hour instead of rushing back to make the 5:30pm shuttle. In addition to the room (ours was newly renovated), you could also pay for a continental breakfast and sack lunch which Louis brought to our room the night before the hike. Very convenient and yummy!! Lodge was also within walking distance of restaurants (two that we ate at had great views of mountains, sunset) and small store. All in all, we really enjoyed our stay - perfect for us :). Louis was also very responsive prior to our trip, answering my many questions.

Perfect place to stay if you are doing Tongariro Crossing or other tracks in Tongariron National Park - our host arranged shittle bus for us, also provided packed lunch for our hiking. Lodges are very cozy, a little bit dated but clean and very well equiped. Free laundry! Delicious breakfast! Good fast food truck very close....

the only thing was there were no separate bedroom/s for our teenagers:)

We had a wonderful stay at the Tongariro crossing lodge, even though the weather was a little rainy and moody. Having a pleasant environment with a lot of walks around and suggestions from the staff was really helpful. we can confirm as per everyone’s reviews that the breakfast is really nice as well.

We were staying at the Horopito Suite which was very spacious and spotlessly clean. The only suggestion to consider is it’s harder mattresses for the beds as especially for the king size. I found myself flying over every time my partner would move!

The self-contained unit we stayed in is very comfy, especially the room bed and the sofa in the living hall. The room size is good for our family of 4. We can see Mt Ruapehu clearly behind our room. It is a 10-minute walk to the bar & restaurant from our lodge. In addition, it is just a 15-minute drive to Whakapapa village and another 15 minutes to drive up to the Skifield carpark. This is one of the best lodges we have stayed in New Zealand.

The lodge is a lovely place with everything you need for a comfortable stay, including a wonderful breakfast and the possibility of getting a packed lunch (recommended if you go hiking for the day, as there is only one small food truck at the foot of Tongariro). The garden is beautiful and the hosts are super friendly and helpful; when we couldn't do the Tongariro crossing because of high winds, Louis gave us great recommendations for an alternative hike.

Nothing, it's a lovely place.

The overall experience was great. No faults at all. Perfectly placed for my husband who was doing the Tongariro Crossing. Excellent facilities. Washer, dryer. Hose pipe for dirty boots. The service was brilliant too. The lodge was warm when we arrived and advice for dinner was greatly received. In walking distance of a four square for essentials is good too.

No issues

Very helpful friendly staff, the room was great- big and quiet with a comfy bed and beautiful ensuite. We shared a kitchen with one other room which was great. The setting is lovely, and the location was perfect for us. The hosts arranged a shuttle for the Tongariro crossing which was very well organised, and there is a free to use laundry. A great stay!

Note that breakfast is very good but costs extra.

The great location and cleanliness of the facilities were both exceptional. However, the staff were what made my stay a 10/10, not only did they let me have a late checkout as I waited for my train but Marina and Louis also picked me up and dropped me off right at the train station. Incredibly friendly and accommodating!
