Outstanding place to stay when hiking the Tongariro Alpine Crossing (TAC). The motel was clean and comfortable. Plenty of hot water, comfortable bed. I had a corner room with a kitchenette which was very quiet. The hosts were wonderful and a wealth of information. Very friendly and great to talk with. Dutchy is also a driver that can take you to the TAC. Schedule the drop-off and pick-up with the motel. Reasonable price for transportation and so easy since you simply meet in the parking lot on the morning of your hike. It's a 10-15 walk from the train station to the motel, although Gillian was kind enough to drop me off at the train station the day I checked out. Definitely will stay here again if I return to National Park for some more hiking!

Beds are super soft (you fall all the way to the bottom) and feel worn down. But seems like that is the way they do beds in New Zealand ? We had similar beds in most places so far … We took the tongariro shuttle from the hostel. Dutchy gave a super nice explanation in the morning, but we found that there were not enough shuttles back. We had to wait 1h20 min for the next shuttle (we missed 1 by 3 min and the next one was 10 min late). Would be good if there was 1 shuttle added so waiting times are lower

The young reception girl was very friendly. The TV had 2 remotes hard to operate very confusing. The elderly owner lady was helpful but not that friendly. I thank all of them for waiting for us at the reception as we arrived quite late cos we were lost initially but the lady nicely guided us to the Lodge. The room was space and very welcoming. Thanks for putting the heater on. John was very friendly & welcoming helped us to the mountain on his shuttle.

Must have just one remote for TV and not 2 to confuse guest.

The best place to stay, especially if you are on your way to go to the Tongariro Alpine Crossing. Gillian and John's hospitality was so much more than what we expected. They helped us to understand what we are up against, drove us to and from the track (extra payment, booked on their website). Gillian was in contact while we were on the track to make sure we are ok and on time. John drove us back and due to the low season, was able to accommodate our personal finish time. The room itself was great, had everything we needed and was quite comfortable. The communal kitchen is in great shape, we used the grill to make a great meal, and also the oven to bake bread (dietary restrictions) and the freezer. The washer and dryer are ok. John took us to the start of the Tongariro crossing track and picked us up after on the other end when we finished. He told us about the area and Mairi culture. He even gave us a plastic bracelet with his number so we could call him ahead of time so he would be waiting for us when we finished our walk. Our reservation was upgraded and we enjoyed a room with a private bathroom thanks to their kindness. I would stay there again and recommend the place without a doubt.

The motel sign on the street right before you enter the property I think should be located on the other side of the driveway because as it is you get instead into the lodge next door. It is not a big deal but might be helpful to change.

The staff were incredible, especially the reception staff and housekeeper. The location is ideal both for having places to eat within walking distance and easy driving distance to the main attractions. The hotel offers shuttle to the Crossing, so it was super convenient in the morning and they were highly knowledgeable as they had done it themselves and they had eaten in all the places in town we asked about.

One goes to National Park Village only to visit the Tongariro National Park for hiking or other nature-admiring activities.The village offers little else. However, you feel as being immersed in a warm bath when staying at Adventure Lodge. A quiet nice place. The room was large and well equiped, the personel was very friendly, extremely helpfull and they gave a lot of information about the neighbourhood and things to do. They provide freshly-prepared and healthy breakfasts and lunches (brought to your room) of such a composition and quality that you can endure the toughest hike. Daily rides to the start point of the Alpine crossing (and pick up at the end) but also personalised transportation is arranged at any time to whatever place. Remarkable to mention: a large collection of movies (including 'Lord of the Ring') is available to spend your day when you are bored, or cannot go out due to bad weather. Recommended place to stay!

The best thing about this place are the people there. Gillian and John were kindness personified. Gillian offered to come pick me up from the train station and guided me well when the tour I had book was cancelled, helping me complete my trek. The packed lunch, their breakfast options and spa pool after a hard day of climbing were all perfect. Highly recommend this place for the warmth and affection of the hosts.

Excellent lodge with very kind, caring and warm-hearted hosts who made this experience unforgettable for us. They were so kind and welcoming. There was a shuttle available to the starting point of the Tongariro alpine crossing and John provided a wonderful enthusiastic explanation of the history of the Tongariro national park. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would recommend this lodge to anyone traveling to Tongariro.

The location was perfect for doing the Tongariro Alpine Crossing with the shuttle door to door. My single room was comfortable and guest kitchen and shared bathroom worked just fine. The owners and staff were lovely. A happy crew. I had forgotten there was a hot tub so that was the icing on the cake, perfect for tired muscles.

You had to go outside to get from bedroom to kitchen. I needed my umbrella.
