Absolutely adored this hotel. starting when i drove up into the carpark, a member of staff rushed out to greet me and offered to carry bags. The whole break went the same way, they really make you feel valued. The shared table for meals was a revelation, such interesting chat with people from all over europe and nobody buried their head in a mobile phone even though the wifi was very good. Adrian and Eva are wonderful hosts and nothing was too much for them. You could spend hours looking at all the interesting things they have dotted around. Room was comfortable with great views, shower good, food excellent, bar good. In fact all good.

A longer break, wasnt enough, booked a return. This hotel is very remote and yet they have managed to provide all comforts, no complaints. well done.

The most remote hotel means exactly this – a truly remote, characterful old house where sheep roam free and nature sets the tone (including a few tiny house spiders as natural and much needed pest control in rural homes). We were welcomed with a hot drink and a piece of cake, which set the tone perfectly. Despite the cook being ill/absent, we were served a wonderful three-course home-cooked dinner. Our three-year-old kept repeating how tasty everything was, which says it all! Breakfast was freshly made to our wishes (and some misunderstandings were quickly cleared), agreed the evening before. There’s no TV, but an extensive library and stunning views from every window more than make up for it. The bathroom mirror was also a surprising highlight!

Nothing really – just worth noting it’s a very remote location in an old house. Don’t expect pretend, expect true and real.

We were warmly greeted as "Storm Floris" really started to hit hard. We had driven in the Saab 900 from Smoo Cave and had come across fallen trees and other gnarly weather, at times wondering if we would have to turn back or sleep in the car! Eva greeted us and brought us in - and Adrian quickly brought about some red wine to warm our spirits. The dietary needs from some of our party were not even blinked at, and we sat at a table seating 14 with my three year old daughter at the head and the host at the other. It was a great night with lots of people sheltering from campsites or blocked off from being able to get home. The food was amazing, no chips, beans and tesco sausages here. A respite from the usual Scottish high street affair. The bedrooms were wonderful and cosy and the house decor was very special. We loved our stay and we think we should make it a yearly event. It was so wonderful to be adopted by a real family for even one night when otherwise, hotel living is often so asepticized. A++ will definitely stay again.

the welcome of the hosts and the quality of the food and the decoration of the place were outstanding. the dinner was shared at a long table with guests and hosts ( but obviously you could opt out) and the conversation were very uplifting. You feel that you have arrived at a friend house. The place is indeed remote and you feel to be in a very unique place. the whisky selection in the drawing room was very good and the host has my favourite one from the Scapa distillery in Okney.

that my google maps did not sent me to the right place first but the host kept my dinner option open despite my late arrival.

This is a unique property, run more as a house party than a normal hotel. There are old-fashioned lounges, often with a log fire. And dinner is eaten at a communal table, chatting with other guests and the hosts, who share dinner with us. The location is totally isolated in the middle of the moors, with no TV (but good WiFi) - ideal for walking, cycling or just relaxing.

Being an old property, there are some inconveniences - I especially disliked the nylon shower curtain! But nothing detracts from my wonderful experience at this hotel.

We spent a lovely evening and night at Garvault house with Eva and Adrian (amazing hosts) The house is so isolated that it felt like being in another world. It's been a fantastic experience. We had dinner there (strongly suggested) and Adrian quite literally organized a round or two of whisky tasting (an extremely informative and lovely experience). Adrian also helped us organize some of our next stops by showing us the main sites of interest in the region. Best experience we could hope for!

Nothing to complain about.

The staff and owners were friendly and helpful, the owner Adrian was a good host, including dining with two lone travellers, making their stay nicer. The food is mostly locally sourced, with limited choice of meals, pretty much being take it or leave it. The shower was great. The property has the feel of being within someone’s home, which it is, there are huge amounts of interesting items on display. A great remote location, providing refuge.

Ollie the general manager, appeared very aloof, unfriendly and unhelpful at times

In it's communication, the hotel owners mention that it is the most remote hotel in Great Britain...that's true! but wow, I never imagined that being so remote could be so rewarding. This was one of the most emotional experience I have ever had in a "hotel". This is large guesthouse in its spirit, with very nice rooms, great food, a lovely bar and most importantly its people. In summary you chose the place to get an accommodation in this part of Scotland and you leave people.

Nothing. Please keep it this way.

Absolutely phenomenal hotel. The most remote in the UK too. By the time you leave the owners are like your best friends. Lots of interesting nooks and crannies to explore in the hotel, with allsorts of quirky delights on the walls and shelves. Thoroughly enjoyed my stay here, I can normally never be bothered to write reviews but for this place I had to. Tip: Ask to join the main table for dinner. Thank me later!

The location is stunning, it’s out in the sticks. Exactly what we wanted and you’re not far from the next town. The staff at garvault was lovely and attentive. We got tea and cake on arrival and the dinners were home cooked and very delicious!

The only negative I could find was the beds in our our room. The mattress tropper was so soft and uncomfortable and I struggled to sleep on it. Maybe a little upgrade on the mattress topper front would make this place absolutely perfect!
