The hotel is in a great location, close to major attractions like The Chicago Art Institute. It is a grand building, the main lobby is grand, feels like a set for a movie about the roaring 1920s. The rooms have a classic feel, not shiny and modern, but they have all the amenities you'd expect.

They love to add extra charges. When we parked in front, a doorman gave us a valet parking tag and our car was whisked away to valet parking. Only later did we find out (printed in unreadably faint letters on the tag) that valet parking cost $75/night. Then when we checked in we were told there was a $25/day additional charge that we had to spend on hotel services like food, spa etc. On our first day we decided to use the $25 towards a quick breakfast before going sightseeing: 30 mins after we ordered, no food had yet arrived. We went asking and finally it came. Food was very good, but our day started late.

We love the charm and ambiance of the Palmer House - especially at Christmastime. It’s so close to everything - walk to Millemium park or Michigan Ave or just around the corner to Millers for a late night snack. The new workout facility is top notch! Great to have a pool again too!

Well - we arrived right at 3 on a Friday and check in took over an hour. This needs some work - I’ve never experienced this and it was very frustrating (especially since we had young kids). Everyone knows historic building’s require more maintence and are typically smaller than newer hotels - it seems the rooms are in need of some updating (wallpaper coming off and the vent in our Bathroom rusty - furniture / dresser was dilapidated). The executive tower has always been a perk to have the coffee / lounge area (especially since there are no coffee makers in the room) the lounge area on the executive tower needs some love and the perks need to come back - at least coffee!

Amazing and gorgeous hotel with an interesting historic background. The rooms were clean and comfortable and the staff was friendly and helpful. Has a variety of choices for food. Be sure to have some dollars on hand to tip. I had a roll away bed brought in and I think the guy wants assumed I would tip him, but I didn't have any small bills. I would love to take a tour of this hotel!

Because of its popularity and size, it has a tendency to be really busy with not only tourists staying there but also locals with their social gatherings. This hotel is historically known for that. You will need to know and remember your bearings, which door the car garage is at, which elevator to take, where to turn for your room. Once you've got that, you're good to go! 😊

Good breakfast was provided and included as promised. The location is excellent. Palmer House is an old hotel with interesting period decorations ( which is why we chose it.

The check-in is terrible . Long lines of people waiting 30 minutes in the evening. The staff were frustrated as only three were on desk duty even though they had about 10 desk positions. Their credit card swipe machines are old and by their own admission faulty. Recommendations was to to try touch read three times and then swipe three times. In fact only one terminal seems to work with NON -USA credit cards and auto accept PIN nos. Come-on guys a small investment in new equipment will save customers and staff lots of time.

Location is exceptional! Public areas are beautiful and well-kept up. Appreciate the magnified mirror in bathroom and double closets and bathrooms. Lovely view from window. Friendly reception/check-in staff. Tiffany peacock doors are outstanding.

Executive suite room is minimalist and austere. Possibly the least appealing room I've ever stayed in. No coffee-making facilities. No paper, pens, or hotel/city information on desk. No low lighting by bed. Housekeeping didn't clean room while we were out during the day when privacy sign removed from door on 9/12. Smallest bathroom has loose metal foot at bottom of vanity. Shower door didn't close properly and got floor wet.

The room was large and spacious and very clean. Staff were excellent apart from Front desk who were rather stern

Resort fee is a rip off, shouldn't apply, charged for a service I didn't have and reception weren't interested, all they said was I will email the dept, I was diamond member with hilton honors and they wouldn't amend the room rate, I accept first night but they wouldn't help for the other 3 nights. I had no idea a Hilton member or I would have had my friend book

Overall, the Polar House is a very nice place to stay. The staff was extremely friendly and helpful. The location is perfect for walking to shops and restaurant. It was easy to find a taxi if you needed to get a ride somewhere. Parking was literally right across the street and the Palmer house paid for it.

The only negative I could really say regarding the hotel is that because of its age there was some paint in the hallway walking into the room that was chipping on the ceiling and in the bathroom. This would not stop me from staying again. Given that the rooms were very clean.

The location was great. Housekeeping staff were friendly and everything was clean. Inside the building there is a Starbucks, candy store, and gift shop. The hotel also has a coffee shop, restaurant, and bar.

The Front desk staff were not very friendly. The hotel charges an amenity fee of $25 per room per day but gives you credits for the spa, food, and laundry service. However, some of the amenities were not available during my stay so I had to pay the fee without getting the benefits.

Satisfied with the check-in/check-out process, luggage storage, amenities on site. Staff checked in via text daily. Lobby area was beautiful. Room was clean and plenty of linens. There is a resort fee tacked onto the price of the room that can be used as credit for spa, restaurants, etc.

Heating/Cooling in room seemed inconsistent. We were cold at night despite having the heat on. Needed a weightier duvet or bedcover.

Staying in this legendary hotel was an experience. The beautiful lobby/bar was always enjoyable to spend time in or walk through. The staff were friendly and helpful. We were at the hotel during the annual lighting ceremony of the huge Christmas tree which was a fun event.

The room was small, but that is understandable for an older hotel. Housekeeping service was available only upon request, which seemed for a hotel of this type. Wifi reception in the lobby was poor; I more easily connected from the lobby to the wifi from the Starbucks downstairs.
