Right in the middle of Whakatane, easy to get where I needed. Staff were awesome, very friendly. Bed was very comfortable, the room was spacious and clean with a good sized TV. It was also surprisingly quiet for a Friday/Sat night stay, probably as my room was down the back of the hotel.

The bathroom was so tiny I couldn't have taken a cat in there, let alone swung it! There needed to be a long mirror somewhere in the bedroom. I am a night owl and was unable to use the kitchen or the balcony outside between 10pm and 6 am. There also needed to be a working power point near the bed, instead of having to hang cords under the TV.

The location was good. As I walk everywhere.(which is the only way I get around)

As I work night shift from 4pm - 12am. When I get back to the hotel after work I couldn't access the kitchen. As I brought my own food products and I utilized the kitchen provided to put my food, milk etc. As the kitchen closed at 6pm, I was unable to access my food etc to make something to eat or drink. Maybe consider a key or pass code for the kitchen for any of your guests that come and stay and work night shifts, that provide there own food to save costs or eating out.

I was provide with a lot pf blankets and two pillows! :) the room had lots of lights and a sink and big dressing table with mirror!! :) The staff was super friendly, although I would have appreciated a "here's the sitting room and kitchen and the bathrooms are down the hall" The bathroom did have a towel rack and a little shelf thing to put your stuff. Oh, and another little shelf behind the bath! Fuää set of comfortable towels is given.

The bathroom was alright, although I was a bit surprised that it was shared and down the hallway (my fault for not checking that, but apparently its a thing here). The shower is attached at the top, so showering isn't as pleasant. The bolt was also a little stuck, so not so pleasant to use. Toilet, bath/shower and sink were all in different rooms. You share a shower mat (when you come out of the shower), which is a bit icky. The Walls were pretty thin, so you hear all noise.

I booked a single room with private bathroom. Loved how central the hotel is - walking distance to shops, cafés and restaurants. My room was small but comfortable, a bit cold but had a heater which I definitely used. Bed was comfy and clean. Shower temp and pressure were also good. Very basic facilities so pays to have a good look on the website before you look so you know what you are booking. Would come back and stay here as a solo traveller again.

This is a fine example of a kind of country hotel that is vanishing. It oozes character. Irish references are everywhere. It is proudly old fashioned. It is a bit worn, and needs a refurbishment, but please not a renovation. Upstairs there is an adequate guest kitchen and a lounge that belongs in an 18th century gentleman's club with deep leather sofas. The rooms are basic but clean. The bathrooms, although shared, are quite private - separate rooms, not cubicles.

There was indeed muted noise from the bar downstairs but it wasn't loud and ceased around 10 pm. I had to wait an hour to check in because of a power outage, but that was just bad luck.

Location is great in the middle of town. Room size is ok, bed is comfortable. I like the choice of live band songs played at the entrance of the hotel. Full furnished shared kitchen for hotel guests to use.

Not suitable for light sleeper for weekend (Fri & Sat night). I might be wrong, but I'm wondering why is there a non-functioning sink in the room. 1 of the ladies bathroom locked is finnicky; needs some adjustment.

I liked the fact that, although it's not a palace, an honest attempt has been made to make a visitor feel welcome and comfortable. The rooms I've used have been clean, the linen spotless, and the showers work fine. Sure, the place could do with a lick of paint, but the place has character. I like that.

The fact people keep booking my room lol

The cenral location and the iconic Hotel is a lovely landmark in Whakatane. It had huge potential to be a great option for accommodation with a few upgrades for added comfort

The lack of some creature comforts in the room. No welcome pack with info, especially wifi password, mirror in bedroom, tv that works. Flat batteries. Contact number for on call person would also be helpful. The bar was the biggest disappointment as both nights at 7pm the kitchen was not providing food. It was apparently having a deep clean. Not welcoming at all. I had been there before and is was fantastic so disappointed.

The location is easy to reach, located to the heart of the city. Easy to access to everywhere. The facilities are old and grand, but usable and neat. Environment reasonably clean. The pillows with a thin and a thick one, very practical. The shower and bath area has big bench to put stuff on. One of the cheapest deal in the city. A separate private sink in the bedroom although booked for shared bathroom I like how it looks like a classic mental facility patient bedroom.

Bed mattress could be a firmer. The window up the room door has light coming in could be disturbance for some people. The pipe under the sink of the room has water drip out, could create noise at home, I used a tower to put on top of the icecream box to stop the noise. The wall sound insulation could improve.
