The meals in the pub was amazing. The staff could not do enough for us once they found out I was disabled
We booked what it said was a chalet when we got there it was a shepherds hut with a double bed and settee, the toilet and shower was shared and due to my mobility i could not get up the stairs into the hut(no hand rails and slippy wood steps for crutchers) went into the bar and spoke to a gentleman who phoned the manager up and they moved us into a room in the pub with its own bathroom and shower.great room thank you very much to the staff for there fast response. Had we known it was a shepherds hut and shared toilet we would not have booked.i personally feel booking . Com should review property+facilities before letting properties advertise... But all ended well in the end had a great 2 days in whitby

We stayed for three nights in two shepherd's huts, one grandson and one grandparent in each. One sofabed and one double bed = plenty of wriggle room, and beats being in a tent. Excellent choice at breakfast, even kippers if ordered the day before . We also had one evening meal , above average pub food and proper Yorkshire platefuls. Friendly landlord and staff, and nice dogs The location was perfect for walking to Whitby on the cinder track, and for catching the bus back after a day's exploring (get off at Hawsker and follow the same track downhill) so we didnt use the car for two days.
Nobody really enjoys getting up in the night to cross the garden to the single, shared loo, but we knew in advance, and the torch was a thoughtful addition to the key ring. Good shower, I'd suggest adding a wooden bath mat to step onto. And one bedside table and lamp per hut. All together our stay here was a great experience and we wish Mark and the team every success in years to come.

Staff lovely, especially Jill who did a great breakfast every morning. Room & bathroom very modern, comfortable, warm & spotlessly clean as is the inside of the pub & dining room. There was plenty of hot water provided with lots of teas, coffees & biscuits. Generally quiet during the morning which was nice.
The car park… problems exacerbated by lots of bad customer parking, I was stressing about having to park our car on the road! Also, two old vehicles with flat tires & a pile of logs taking up valuable parking space is not a good look. Think if car park was tidied up, white lined to encourage better alignment & cones to reserve for residents it would certainly be very encouraging.

The Windmill pub is excellent, we have eaten there a couple of times and love the walk down the cinder track to Whitby. Staff are always lovely and the breakfast was perfect. The hut was perfect for one night stay
Sadly, through no fault of the owners, Booking.com falsely advertised the booking as having a private bathroom which it did not (they are in the process of adding the facility to all huts) the staff were very apologetic and for one night it didn’t work out too bad, it was clean and served its purpose.

The staff here are ever so friendly and the pub and breakfast was superb. We mistakenly believed that there was a toilet in the Shepherds hut, there is not and when one needs the toilet overnight, then it becomes a real pain. The hut looked tatty from outside but was spacious and clean with a kettle, water, tea & coffee provided. Unfortunately, there isn't a window to open, so unless you leave the door ajar the hut becomes stuffy. We tried to get a taxi into Whitby, but none seemed available so it was a 2 mile walk in to town which fortunately was downhill, but quite arduous coming back.
Only one shower and WC between 4 huts. No opening window.

Staff helpful and friendly. Shepherd Hut was snug, and comfortable. Clean. Well-stocked with tea and coffee and extra supplies available from bar. Breakfast cooked to order, good portion, quick service.
Description when booking was "chalet also consists of 1 bedroom, 1 bathroom and a seating area". The shepherd hut in the garden was fine (see above) but the "bathroom" was a block attached to the Inn with a shower which was shared with all four shepherd huts and a separate toilet, also shared with the other shepherd huts. I must stress that these were spotlessly clean but I had not expected from the description to be using shared facilities or for these to require a walk across the garden to reach them. I wouldn't have minded had this been what was described when booking but I was taken aback on arrival.

The shepherd huts were quite cosy and provided good privacy. The bed was comfortable. Tea and coffee facilities were fine and the huge bottle of water in rooms much appreciated. The pub food was really good, probably as good as pub food gets. The beer was fabulous. Staff were friendly and helpful. Good flexibility in providing a packed breakfast,
A few improvements might be: More hooks in the huts, toilet and shower room. Shower gel in the shower room, along with cloths to mop up. A small bedside table in the shepherds’ huts on which to put your phone, along with a bedside light. Some general refurb of outside paintwork.

welcoming from the word go! super friendly staff and fun place to stay ( Shepard hut). Very quiet location!! no sound pollution from the pub at all! lovely area and easy to get to and from Whitby! Breakfast was delicious!!
my partner has fibromyalgia and found the bed a bit uncomfortable, she also struggles to dry standing up due to this, so the Sheppard hut was not suitable for her but good to know for our future booking of which we may book a room instead or work around her fibromyalgia by bringing a fold up stool. defiantly will book again and are looking at next year for a return visit!!

We stayed in one of the Shepherd Huts. It was an interesting stay - think glamping, but not in a tent. Breakfast was great and the staff friendly. The toilet and shower facilities, whilst not part of the hut, were regularly cleaned.
The toilet and shower facilities were small. The sink in each unit was very, very small, making it almost impossible to have a proper shave. It would have been good to have a couple more hooks in the shower room, especially next to the shower, so the towel was in reach. We were lucky with the weather, but in the wet/cold, it would not have been much fun using the facilities - especially in the middle of the night. But, that is glamping, and we knew what to expect before we arrived.

We loved our stay at the windmill. The staff were amazing, very friendly and made you feel right at home. The chalets were cosy and clean and everything you could need for a nice night away. The communal toilets and showers, which might put some people off, were spot on, well kept and clean as a whistle. The people that run this establishment deserve a lot of credit.
We had one slight issue and it in no way impacted our weekend, we had an amazing stay and would 100% stay again. But our boys stayed on the sofa-bed in the chalet and kept complaining it was too uncomfortable - naturally we told them they'd be fine, we used to sleep on sofa beds all the time when we were kids, but they were up at 1:30am unable to sleep. So I swapped them and turns out they were right. The mattress wasn't thick enough and you could feel the frame through it. This could be easily rectified and would not prevent us from staying here again.
