The staff were extremely friendly and helpful. The food was excellent and very good value for money. They state their ingredients are locally sourced which is something we liked too. The location suited us for our needs this weekend and I can imagine that it is very well visited by ramblers. The restaurant area is cosy and the bar area welcoming I was also impressed by how much gluten free was available on the menu.

Saying that we didn't like something is a bit strong, we just feel that the breakfast dining area could be improved as some of the seats were a bit worn and the décor was tired looking.

This is the second time we have stayed at the Charles Cotton Hotel and yet again it didn’t disappoint. Staff are really friendly and welcoming rooms are nice, clean and the beds are very comfortable, also the food is very good and reasonably priced and the breakfast is excellent and it’s all locally sourced. Another bonus is that the parking is free and you are only 10 minutes away from Bakewell and Buxton, it is fair to say we will be staying there again.

Didn’t have a pub atmosphere especially in the daytime when just wanting a drink as all the tables were set. Hopefully next time we visit the beer garden will be more welcoming. Can’t beat a lovely beer garden especially in the summer. WiFi was good but not on the top floor.

it was clean, quiet and comfortable and the situation was good for my purpose.

I did not know how to work the shower and the light in the hallway was not working. ? bulb issue. I did report that to a young male member of staff but I was only there 2 nights so did not matter too much that it was not attended to. I would have appreciated a stool in the bathroom and some sort of handles to help my balance. and a towel rail next to the basin. And the mirrors were situated too high for me at 5 feet!

Large room, comfy bed, good large towels, strong shower, excellent friendly staff. The best thing was the delicious food. The hotel is in the middle of great walking country . We walked in Dovedale and to Monsal Head and visited Biddulph Grange on the last day. Many cafes in town for sandwiches and a famous cheese shop.

The room was generously sized, the bed very comfortable and the breakfast excellent with a choice of Full English or toast and cereal. Harry and the team were extremely friendly and always there to help with the needs of their guests. We will definitely stay there again.

Good breakfast, lovely village, and the village has shops etc so it is convenient (for a non driver like me). I liked sitting at a table out front with a pint and watching the world go by. The negative was that it was either crazy expensive or impossible to get taxis from there. The big positive was that the owner stood in to save the day!

What a brilliant location and what a wonderful set of owners who are looking to do something different in the area. I very much enjoyed our stay and will be looking to revisit once they have finalised all of their new menu.

Needs better wifi

The location was ideal thankfully with parking in a busy location. All the ingredients were there, friendly staff, good hearty food and a comfortable, though slightly dated room. Then again we didn't pay Ritz prices.

We found no issues to cause us concern so I have little to say.

Beautiful location and well positioned. Loved our stay here. Really striking hotel and value for money. Could do with updating but charm is in abundance

Needs maybe some upkeep and a general refurbishment but that’s being rather picky as we loved it.
