Excellent location, warm friendly welcome from helpful, attentive team of staff, delicious food made from local ingredients. Attractive decor in rooms and good attention to detail.
We stayed in the section of the property known as the Paper Mill - our room (8) was directly above the bar which didn’t close until 2345 and there’s little in the way of effective soundproofing. In fairness, it does warn you on the website but it’s much less obvious if you’re booking through booking.com - so please ensure that you choose a room in the Old Hall if you’re planning on a quiet, early night - or just pop downstairs and join in ;) Also note that the shower (at lease in our room) isn’t a power-shower, just natural feed from tap pressure.

Old Hall Inn in Chinley was an overall pleasant experience. The inn itself is charming, and we were situated in the Paper Mill annex just behind the main building. Since we were a party of three adults, we were provided with two rooms as expected. However, instead of being placed in the part of the annex with two rooms, one of our group was placed in a separate section of the annex, which wasn’t ideal. The rooms were as described. I shared a room with a friend, and while the space was comfortable, there was no TV in the bedroom area, only in a small side room with two rather uncomfortable chairs. I would have preferred having the TV in the main bedroom space. We had dinner at the restaurant, and while the service was friendly, the food was just okay. I would not recommend the brisket burger, it was so tough I couldn’t eat it. On the bright side, the pub was a highlight of our stay! We had a fantastic time enjoying beers and ciders with the locals and listening to live music. That part of the experience was truly memorable and worth recommending. One area for improvement: on our first night, we were locked out of the common area needed to access our room. It was quite discouraging, and if the pub hadn’t still been open, we would’ve had no way to get in. Because of that, we avoided staying out late the following evening, worried we might end up locked out again. Despite a few hiccups, the Old Hall Inn is a central and scenic place to stay in the High Peak District. It's ideal for hikers and well connected by train for those looking to explore nearby villages on foot. With a few small improvements, it could be an excellent stay all around.

We had a great stay. The GPS routes provided for local walks were really useful, and the location meant we could reach places like Jacob’s Ladder without needing a car. Both pubs had a welcoming, community feel. The pizza at the Paper Mill was excellent, and we had two fantastic meals at the Old Hall- classic British pub food done very well. Breakfast was good quality, with a mix of continental options alongside the full English. Would definitely stay again!

The location for walking and exploring was great. We ate at the Old Hall Inn 2 nights and the food was excellent.
We booked for a room in the Old Hall Inn but were given a room in the Old Paper Mill, across the road which was nice but meant a walk in the rain to get to the Inn for meals and a longer walk with our cases from the car park. The Old Hall is closed Wednesdays and so the only for a pub was the Paper Mill which is very noisy until 11pm, and directly under our room. Make sure you actually get the Old Hall when booking.

I stayed here last summer and it was great, so I booked again for myself pre-Christmas while my wife was visiting family. It was as close to a Christmas movie as you could hope to find. The place is simply stunning. Quaint, small, and no thrills, but somehow still perfect. The menu was great, the trad band in the pub were wonderful, the staff are great, and the Christmas decorations were lovely. The location is also great — it's proper village — you can reach hiking routes from the doorstep and most of the village joins you in the pub in the evening for drinks. If you want a few quiet nights away, undisturbed, good wholesome food, good wines, good ales, lots of dogs to cuddle, and rolling hills as far as the eye can see, this is the place. Bear in mind, the restaurant is closed on Wednesdays — their sister property, The Paper Mill, is open opposite on that night — it's literally across the road and serves pizza from a stone-bake oven.
My cousin dropped me off and decided to stay last minute (after having a pint) and booked a room on the night — he got the room I stayed in last year (twice the size of mine with a superior bathroom) and paid half the price. That was a bit frustrating. Otherwise, nothing to complain about — it's so great.

Everything was amazing, we stayed in the 4-poster bed room with a balcony and it was incredibly spacious and comfortable. The balcony we didn't get to use as much as we wanted due to the icy weather - but we caught some amazing sunrises. The food was expectational, our booking had breakfast included with a variety of choice from hot cooked breakfasts that you pre-book and also a range of continental/lighter options. We also booked a table for one of the evenings and enjoyed some fantastic, fresh food. The atmosphere was lovely - also amazing for if your a dog lover like myself! The staff were friendly & helped us out with route ideas for our walks. On the topic of walks, the website offers so many different walking routes for all hiking ability. Overall - 10/10 stay.
The only downside was that the room was above the kitchen - and with it being a older building the first night we could hear the hustle and bustle of it all but it all stopped when the kitchen closed.

Food was good in both locations.
I booked 4 rooms for our party of 7 people, 3 for two occupants and 1 for a single occupant. Not all rooms were the same price and I naturally expected that the single occupant room would be the least expensive and when we arrived, the single member of the group was given the smallest room. However, when each of us paid for our own rooms as we checked out, the single member was charged for the most expensive room. There seemed to be no logic to this. I would like the hotel to know that this caused a problem.

What a great place! The pub dates from the mid 1500’s and a lot of the original features still remain. The restaurant offers some amazing food, with one section reminiscent of a medieval banqueting hall. You should book to make sure you get a table as it is very popular. We had rooms in the annexed pub (literally across the road) which were very quirky with low ceilings and a lot of original stonework. The sister pub has a minimal menu offering fabulous pizzas, good beer and great wine. We were there for two nights and used it as a base to go exploring the High Peaks.
Nothing to dislike.

We loved the everything about our stay, we couldn’t fault The Old Hall Inn. The staff were amazing, so accommodating and friendly. We were celebrating a birthday on our stay and we really did have the best time. As a party of 4, we stayed in the paper mill annexe. Our rooms were beautiful, comfortable and the views were stunning. We ate in the restaurant at night in the old hall and the food was outstanding. The decor is beautiful and quaint and the staff really cannot do enough for the guests. Breakfast was amazing with plenty of choice to suit all guests. I really cannot fault this family run business. It was one of the best short stays we have had. The area of Chinley is fantastic for walks, we took advantage of the loan of a gps device from the hotel to explore the area and the views close by were spectacular. Thank you for a great stay, we will definitely be returning and recommending this gem of a hotel to friends and family

Our stay was amazing. We were in a room with a log fire, where the bed was comfy and it had all the amenities we would need to service ourselves. The host walked us through the details and told us about breakfast which was included. We had dinner at the restaurant in the Old Hall Inn and could not fault it. The service was great, the food was delicious and there was a band playing in the pub afterwards. The pub offered a range of drinks. They provided a birthday dessert for my partner too. They really went above and beyond! We had a quiet and comfortably sleep, and in the morning we had breakfast. The full English was incredible and really set us up for our Peak District walk. We took out a Garmin GPS with our hiking route preloaded, which made our hike easy, accessible and safe.
There really wasn’t anything apart from the heating was too hot in the room.
