The best views around, what a great location. The Inn has a lovely bar and restaurant with indoor and outdoor seating to enjoy the views. The food was delicious and well presented. Breakfast was cooked to order so lovely and fresh. The staff were friendly and helpful. The rooms are accessed from the outside which is fine in good weather. The rooms are comfortable and seem to cater well for customers who enjoy walking. The is ample parking though I imagine of a warm summer’s evening it might become quite crowded.

The bathroom was small and a little dated. The room itself was quite dark with very high windows. No views from the room we stayed in.

Checking in was simple, we were asked if we would like help getting our bags in and the gentleman that checked us in then showed us to our room which was a nice touch, other hotels always just been directed to the room. Lovely room, very clean and tidy with a well stocked tea and coffee area. The view outside the Barrell inn was breathtaking. We had evening meal both nights we stayed and the food was outstanding, the best I’d ever tasted. Staff were all lovely especially the lovely lady that served us breakfast. Lovely stay, would definitely stay again and come back for the amazing food. A Gem of a place, highly recommend.

Perfect location for our purposes - learning how to read a map properly, which started 500 metres from The Barrel Inn. There are ample options for walking in the area. All of the staff we encountered were friendly, helpful and attentive. We had breakfast, lunch and dinner during our stay and the food at each meal was perfectly cooked, well presented and reasonably priced. The room had everything we needed and the views from the Inn were delightful. All in all, a most enjoyable stay.

The Room was excellent it was very clean but lacked a comfy chair. As for quiet it was in an annexe bit which at first looked great but as it was next door to the Bins and barrels was very noisy when barrels were being moved or delivered. We loved the location and the views were spectacular. The evening meal we had on the first night was really good. The service was excellent and the pub itself really comfortable.

The first morning we were greeted by an older woman who did say good morning but was quite sharp with no warmth to her at all. The second morning she was slightly better but if she was the manager and We assumed she was she needed to be a little more friendly. Our second morning my friend was woken at 6 am by a delivery of some sort being very noisy I am a hearing aid wearer and didn't hear a thing.

Fabulous views from the beer garden at the front. Excellent breakfast with quality products and lots of choice. Very good food served in the restaurant.

The room was one of the smallest I have ever stayed in. The only window was small and was eye level to some external steps and a wall so that anyone using the steps could look straight into the room and little light came into the room. I must point out that we stayed in the cheapest room. There is no separate 'bar' area and this place is set up for people dining not just coming for drinks, other than the outdoor seating area. So if all the tables are booked for food there is nowhere to sit inside which is poor if you are staying there. Also there was only 1 cask beer which was a bit disappointing.

Room was spotless, and the bathroom and shower excellent. Breakfast orders were bespoke rather than an open buffet, which made a welcome change, especially as the host was so accommodating and friendly.

I suggest that guests are given the option to book for dinner at the time of booking and prioritised. I was asked whether I wanted dinner when I arrived and was then seated outside of the main restaurant to eat alone as a solo traveller. Not great. Also, an issue with the popularity of the place is that it gets very busy during the day, so when I tried to get back to my room during my stay to get changed I couldn’t actually park there! Again, some priority (spaces) for staying guests?

It was very hot, so with the bathroom velux unusualy open, the air con units outside were quite noisy in the large king room. No water or glasses in the room. But excellent staff (especially at breakfast) and the superb food (both supper an breakfast were exemplary) more than made that stay worthwhile. Views to die for, certainly a holiday highlight. Brilliant spot x

This is a beautifully located property and the standard of accommodation and helpful, friendly staff makes it a fabulous place to stay. We have stayed here on a couple of occasions now when we have visited Chatsworth House and the Christmas lights and on both occasions we have been looked after impeccably. The chef at this property is fabulous and we have eaten the finest food and taken drinks by the roaring log fire, just beautiful. This is a real gem and you must stay here. Amazing history of the property and stunning views over the valley. We will be returning again as our Christmas tradition.

Excellent breakfast and good choice of evening meal. Accommodation was in a quiet just outside room with ensuite which we actually liked as rather charming. Very good shower and comfortable beds, plenty of space for storage of clothes etc and good coffee/tea facilities, including delicious biscuits. Good bathroom toiletries. Soft fluffy towels very good room lady.

Nothing we didn't like hence the reason we returned for a second break and will again come back in the future.

Location was lovely, staff were friendly and very helpful. Room was very small and bath room attention in shower area. food was good and well presented, but was disappointed with Rump steak was tough. my husband being a butcher was disappointed
