Good area to explore all of surrounding areas of interest within half hour journey. The staff were very friendly and service at breakfast and dinner quick, delicious and hot. Room was large with amazing views and two comfy chairs.

The window that was left open on arrival unfortunately wouldn't close properly. However as it was warm we never mentioned snd it looked like in winter they would put a secondary glazing unit in to jeep warm. Slight problem with shower head staying up but nothing that would put us off staying there again. The breakfast was very good and if you didn't want everything you only needed to say, even something different if they gad it there they would oblige. Only one problem, and that was on check I asked if I could have soya or any other alternative milk. Was told they would make a note but none was forthcoming. Would have bee. Happy to take my own but Obviously didn't have fridge to keep it in.

Breakfast is excellent and we recommend eating in as well. There is a choice of an English and also Indonesian menu. The Chicken spring rolls just melt in your mouth and the smells coming from the kitchen entice you to try the food, cooked fresh on site. On arrival, we were informed that Booking.com had upgraded our room and we had a valley view. It was totally unexpected and we were really pleased and it made our holiday even more special. This was our second stay at the Sir William, as we came here a few months ago. We loved it so much we had to come back and this hotel is now our Peak District holiday base.

The property was ideally situation in the Hope Valley area where a train station was literally a 20 minute walk and the view from the hotel was amazing. There are loads of walks which you can use the hotel as a base to start from i.e Grindleford to Bakewell which would take around 4hrs or you could simply walk to Hathersage which is around an hour or two depending on how fast you walk lol. The property was built in the 1800’s so expect it to be dated with some wear and tear but the owners and staff more than make up for the decor. The staff which I assume are husband and wife are very welcoming, helpful and nothing is too much. The breakfast was delicious and you can have a choice of cereal, juice plus an English breakfast or vegetarian breakfast. We had a lovely Indonesian meal from the Indonesian menu which is on throughout February. I would recommend having the Indonesian Chicken Curry :) yum yum!

The room was sufficient for what we wanted however the bathroom was a little on the small side but again it served its purpose. I would recommend if possible to have a sink and toilet combined unit as this would generate more space (room 2) so then you could have a bigger shower :) just some ideas :)

Convenient location for Peak District walking. Plentiful parking. Friendly welcome for humans and dogs alike, Lovely breakfast view from bay window in the bar.

Room 5 window handle broken, so unable to close it fully to block out noise from adjacent road, but thankfully there wasn't too much traffic. Mouldy grouting in shower let bathroom down. Tub chair in in the room had a wonky leg. However, for the £60 price with breakfast for 2 included it seems churlish to complain - excellent value for money. Oh - the kitchen door was left open letting smells permeate up the adjacent stairs to the rooms, despite a sign on the door telling staff to keep it shut.

We stayed for two nights at the hotel and found that the food was all homemade and very tasty. The room was nice and accommodating for us our dogs, it also had a nice view out into the picturesque hills. The TV in the room was very small and the shower was drainer was blocked and so you had limited time in the shower before it overflowed. The staff were nice and it had a relaxed feel in the bar/restaurant are which was exactly what we hoped for. Overall a nice stay and we would visit again.

A nice little cottage converted into a hotel which isn't busy like a typical hotel during school holidays. The staff were accommodating and were happy to chat, offer recommendations on things to do, food places around. Breakfast, that came with the booking, was served a-la-carte, on top the cereals that we could serve ourselves. We booked the quad room which was roomy for 2 adults and 2 kids. The location is perfect for a walk up the Paddley Gorge if that's something in your interest.

Echo and Richard were excellent, from the late arrival keeping the kitchen open to the care and consideration for a medical incident. Breakfast superb, just the thing before a long walk in the Peaks. Dinner choices also great. Amazing views from restaurant area.

Place is a bit tired. Could do with new carpets on stairs and some single pane glass windows do not shut properly.

First off the food was amazing. Compliments to chef for creating a great menu (with great vegetarian options) and for delivering real quality as well. We had lunch and dinner here twice and it was honestly some of the best pub food we've ever had. Notable that people not staying in the hotel were coming here specifically to eat. The service was excellent as well, all the staff were super friendly, knowledgeable and helpful. The room was pretty standard, nothing exceptional to note other than it was very clean. The area is great, some really nice local walks and great landscapes. We managed with public transport and taxis to and from Chatsworth House and Sheffield but we were flexible with walking and taking our time. If you're on a schedule or have large bags etc, then we'd recommend hiring a car.

The friendly staff and lovely food and drink. Lovely little village and views from the bar while having breakfast were lovely too.. albeit a little foggy obviously that’s no fault of the place it was still picturesque.

Room we stayed in was a little dated and bathroom a little tired looking but nonetheless it was clean and comfortable. Over all we have had a lovely stay. It was cheap and cheerful.
