Staff were welcoming and friendly. The inn was ideally located for our visit. Plenty of walking routes and viewing spots for us close by. Room was lovely and clean and had everything we needed, shower was amazing albeit rather small but for bathroom size was adequate. Towels provided. Plenty of wardrobe space. Tea/coffee making facilities. We ate at the inn too and the food was perfect. Lovely selection and great portion size

Bed we found rather hard so didn't sleep as well as we wanted which was disappointing as rest of the stay was great. Took a dog and felt £20 extra a night was a bit excessive.

Fabulous location with wonderful views. Really comfy beds and the staff are fantastic! We were lucky in that there was live music on the Friday night, he was excellent! Great breakfast. We will definitely be back

As we stayed during the heat wave we were unfortunate that the only room free was the twin (behind the patio), you can’t open the main windows in this room…. I’m guessing for safety. It was incredibly warm in the room, although in normal weather I’d guess it would be ok. Wouldn’t put us off returning!

Claire the Manager and Rachel were extremely helpful and very welcoming. They made my stay very enjoyable and were genuinely interested in how my day went. They offered some great advice on walking routes. Loads of parking opposite the hotel just need to tell the hotel staff your car reg for free parking. Fantastic views from the terrace.

The taps in the bathroom sink ran hot water even when switching to cold - had to leave it running a couple of minutes to get cold water. Other guests also had the same issue.

The room was very efficient, and the view was great. We also dined for dinner and the food was excellent. Breakfast was also wonderful, and we really enjoyed talking to the staff.

Our room had the late afternoon sun shining in, combined with a fairly hot day made the room a bit warmer. When we left the windows open for air we did get a bit of the road noise. I will say that being American and use to air conditioning this was a bit of an adjustment. I don't think it would have been an issue if it was cooler outside.

It was located in an idyllic and tranquil location, a ten minute drive from the Padley Gorge National Trust for hikers. I thought the staff (in particular, Claire if I recall her name correctly) were really friendly, attentive to my needs and I felt really welcomed there. The room, shower and toilet facilities more than fulfilled my needs and after a long journey from London to Sheffield after work, I really had a restful night. I had a soya burger meal and a packed veggie sausage sandwich to take for the hike and both were really yummy meals. Thank you for keeping this tired traveller happy.

The location was fantastic, in the middle of a beautiful countryside, walking distance (about 20 minutes) to town where is a shop and other restaurants. The Inn is on a main road but that’s not a problem at all. The food was great and plentiful and Staff were very friendly. They had a step-by-step map for 3 different walks without the need to drive anywhere to see the stunning countryside.

There was not enough staff serving at the time so we had to wait longer than expected to check in and for food. The room was ok but it could do with some TLC though. Some shelving in the bathroom to hang towels and to put our toiletries bags would be great.

Claire is the most wonderful landlady. She is welcoming, warm, flexible, adaptable and accommodating in every way. I would not hesitate to recommend the Millstone whilst it is under her guidance. I would also like to mention the Chef who kept the kitchen open and waited for us all to arrive and get settled: we had travelled up from Gloucestershire to be with our daughter who is working at Bike and Boot but didn’t finish her shift until 3pm. So the chef had to wait until 4.30to serve us. So many thanks to him too for his kindness and ability to be flexible.

Booked a family room for a short stayover on the way home from walking holiday - in fact it was two rooms (1 twin, 1 bunk bed) linked together with their own bathroom, which was ideal and meant my younger child could go to bed earlier. Nice view and ideal location for walking/visiting local attractions. Breakfast was good and staff were very friendly.

There was live music in the bar which was quite noisy (only to be expected with a room above a pub) but once that was finished the room was very quiet. Bar service for food and drinks was quite slow (I think one member of staff was new) but food was good.

Clare who I believe is the Manager at The Millstone was very friendly and helpful, it seemed wherever we were in the hotel, so was she, always ready to help if needed, a very proactive lady who is an asset to the hotel! Her staff were also really nice and made sure everyone was attended to in a professional and timely manner. The rooms are a bit basic and would benefit from some upgrading but clean and with everything you would need for a short stay! The mattress in my room was amazing, the bed linen and towels were of a high standard, tea making facilities and other hot drinks were available in the rooms so we were able to have a cuppa as soon as we arrived! Hanging and storage space for clothing and footwear was fine but again, basic but adequate. The shower was excellent, a nice powerful rainfall shower head ensured a refreshing start to the day! No fancy toiletries but nice quality hair/body liquid soap dispensers were fixed at the sink and shower which I think is more practical anyway! We had dinner there and also breakfast the next day and on both occasions the food was excellent and reasonably priced!

The rooms are a bit tired and could do with a face lift and upgrade, I believe from Clare that this is happening in the new year, I would definitely go back to check it out! Everywhere in the hotel was too hot, our room was very hot so we had to open the window which allowed the traffic noise to be a slight issue during the night as the hotel is right on the main road into Hathersage, the bathroom was small so it was a bit oppressive but I believe there was a problem with the main boiler which was being looked at the next day, Clare opened windows to allow a through breeze which helped in the public areas. Hopefully during the upgrade the rooms will be laid out a bit better, everything needed was available but not necessarily in the best place for effective use.

The location was ideal with lots of walking routes around. We were able to check in early which was really nice. Staff was lovely. The room had everything it needed and was clean and really cozy albeit on the small size (a bit different from what it's shown on Booking.com). Breakfast was delicious and plenty food.

Bathroom could have been a bit cleaner (especially the toilet). Also, if you are planning to eat dinner at the venue, you should know that the kitchen closes early (we tried to order after 7 and it was already closed) so make sure to check times. As for lunch, there was 1 hour gap between starters and mains.
