Lovely hotel in great location for visiting the Peak District. Great views. We had a large triple room Alan A’Dale .. rooms named after Robin Hood characters I think. Walking distance to the lido which we used both days of our stay. Plenty of tea, coffee and biscuits provided in the room and on request. Very clean room and bathroom .. shampoo etc provided. Nice towels and bedding was lovely. Great staff, always helpful and friendly. Especially Yogesh and the hotel owner who was overlooking the freshly cooked breakfast buffet every day.

It was at a busy road junction so it was noisy with traffic as you’d expect after 7am in mornings if you had window open.

Lovely old coaching Inn steeped in local history with a superb interior blending tradition with contemporary uses (pool table, traditional bar area plus modern separate dining area). Room was fantastic with enough space for a full sized leather armchair and one of the softest comfiest beds I have slept in while away. Modern bathroom with good shower area and bags of space. Buffet style breakfast with locally sourced ingredients was also one of the best I have encountered - soft poached eggs as standard, butchers sausages, thick tasty bacon and several artisan bread choices alongside usual cold choices and selection of hot and cold drinks.

Room was road-facing and it is a busy road - so lorries and vans begin hurtling down it quite early in the morning. Fan was provided in room, so window was closed after a brief sleep interruption soon after dawn! Not the worst complaint and did not take the shine off a lovely stay.

It's truly remarkable value. The room was bigger and more comfortable than I was expecting. The bathroom is lovely with a brilliant shower. The location couldn't be better. Right in the heart of the village with 3 good pubs, a shop and a lovely outdoor swimming pool and the train station all within a 10 minute walk. The parking is tight but we didn't have any problems. The cooked buffet breakfast is great, with cereal and yoghurt options too. We went hiking right from the hotel, and the bouldering was just a 10 minute drive. Ideal.

Nothing not to like, it was perfect.

Great price point. Clean room and very comfortable bed. Good position in village. Enjoyed a nice steak and ale pie evening meal.

Food prices need updating on website. Husbands burger evening meal looked grey and unappealing. Super squeaky flooring when walking around the room. Breakfast buffet service not well laid out. Some items of food looking unappealing, eg watery poached eggs. No sauces, ie tomato ketchup available. Plates ran out. No side plates for toast.. No-one in permanent attendance for help at breakfast just popping in and out. Felt institutionalised like a hostel. Lack of any personal service.

Easy booking, very comfortable room, ideal location in the middle of the town centre but far enough away from the main road to be quiet, within a few minutes walk of the train station. Meeting with family in Edale for a hike - this hotel was half the price of a comparable room there, and only £7 return on the train to the foot of Kinder Scout

Very short staffed at breakfast, with one person dealing with repair issues with one of the rooms at the same time as preparing breakfast - felt sorry for the poor bloke having to race round. Parking is tight at the rear and filled quickly

The food was amazing.A young man behind the bar both nights think he said his name was Vin,he made us both feel very welcome he was so friendly and helpful.the staff were all lovely but he went the extra mile. The room was really big, The bathroom was lovely, it had a fabulous shower, it had some lovely toiletries. Few shops on your doorstep if you needed them. It was a great local base for us to go hiking in the peak district .

The room had a couple of small issues the floor made so much noise when you walked on it and some pieces were loose. The key to the door got stuck it was very difficult to open every time

From the outside this pub/hotel doesn't look very much, but don't judge a book by its cover. The staff were friendly and welcoming. The rooms looked newly refurbished and were of a very high quality of decoration. Done with good taste. A bonus is the place is dog friendly for those wishing to take their pets to the area. Unfortunatly they weren't cooking that night except for Pizzas but there are other very nice pubs and an indian restaurant close by for a good evening meal. Breakfast was a superb choice of well cooked English breakfast or the usual Yogurts with coffee and tea on tap. One of the best breakfasts I had on my trip.

Can't fault the hotel part of the operation. They can't help that the outside doesn't look as inviting as the inside is. The bar wasn't as smart as the rooms - but still perfectly clean and acceptable.

Great value for money, the rooms were well equipped with plenty of fresh towels. Tea, coffee and shower gel and body cream. Staff friendly. Good selection of beers. Breakfast excellent and plentiful.

The biggest and only real negative was that we were arriving a little late on a Friday night. Asked what time the kitchen closed and was told 9pm by Gary on the Friday morning. We set off and headed straight for the hotel rather than stop on the way. Arrived just past 8:30pm after a 3.5 hour drive. Whilst getting the room key asked if we could order some food and was told the kitchen was closed. Had we had let them know they could have stayed open longer or arranged something. I explained I had and didn’t get much of a response only that we should try the Indian down the road. Disappointing and other than breakfast (which was good) didn’t eat in the pub/hotel during our stay. I would stay again though as it is good value for money.

Good central location, rather limited parking, however, it was free and I found a space for the night. Rooms appeared to have been recently redecorated or upgraded and were very comfortable and with plenty of space. Bar-Service staff were very friendly and polite.

The evening meal on a Sunday night could have been a lot better and the whole process of its serving felt like a last gasp effort after a long day of serving food. Rather than what was on the menu and was ordered, I was offered my steak and ale pie to go with anything that was left over on the buffet Sunday lunch server. By 1930 most of it was well past its best and dry to the point of being inedible - the pie was similar. After a very long day of driving and a 4 mile hike, I was too hungry and tired to try and sort out a replacement meal. I am all for avoiding wasting food and materials but a lot of food stuff that has been in a warming tray since lunchtime should be checked for what is actually salvageable.

We loved the beds the showers and the food both morning and evening were great. A wide range of ales and with the pool table and log burner the atmosphere was great.

Not much not to like really. I was surprised the chef was "out from 6 till 7:20" but to be honest life happens doesn't it and it just meant we chilled out a bit longer before dinner. We were in the room much the millers son. Fabulous. Just a heads up the floor shakes when you take the keg delivery at 6:45am we found that fairly entertaining but we were getting up early anyway. Not sure how everyone would take it.
