Overall the visit was almost perfect. I am picky here because of the high price you pay. Alot has been said in the previous reviews already. Especially the staff is extremely friendly.

Again, picky but because of 5 stars and high prices... - private pool in the villa not cooled - it's just like a bath tub. - prices for the massage a bit too high. The massage is good but in comparison just too expensive. - the breakfast was good (especially the smoothies) just some little details were a bit odd. For example using simple toast for avo bread instead of real bread, or advertising a dish with olives and then it is one single small olive on the side. ... this is why it is not 10 but 9 because of the prices you pay.

I can’t say enough about this incredible place! To paraphrase what one previous reviewer stated, just go ahead and book it! You will not regret your decision! Everything was impeccable. The staff were so accommodating and lovely. The food was excellent and the highest quality produce I had anywhere on the island. The grounds and amenities are top notch. We took advantage of almost everything this property had to offer. Some of our highlights were the couple’s massage (and I absolutely loved the smell of their proprietary massage oil that is also for sale onsite), the morning sunrise yoga class, the private Pilates reformer class that I requested and paid for, and a full-day tour we took of local sites (Jatiluwih Rice Terrace, Sangeh Monkey Forest and more) with the hotel’s private driver. Our experience was truly amazing. Every need was met. The villa was incredibly clean and the bed was oh so comfortable and pillowy soft! And I can’t say enough about the service we received — from pre-planning our tour and activities with Ms. Eka and Ayu ahead of our stay (they were great in their communication via WhatsApp), to the driver, Rana, who delivered us from the airport and also took us on a full day tour, to the wonderful butler staff, Ade, Ami, and Gusti, who met our every request, to the kitchen and wait staff for the wonderful food served, and last but not least to the cleaning staff who keep the entire property spotless and welcoming. If I ever return to Bali I will certainly stay here again! Note that we stayed here for 5 nights and then for another 5 nights at a different property closer to the center of Ubud. For relaxation and a place to truly unwind, away from the hustle and traffic-jammed streets of downtown, this is THE BEST place to stay.

Uma Kallai is relatively new (opened mid-2022) but I suspect will soon be on the radar of discerning travellers to the Ubud area of Bali. It overlooks the stunning Ayung river valley at Sayan and reminded me of the beautiful Como Shambala Estate further north at Payangan (where my wife and I were married years ago) - and sure enough, it transpired that the owners had been inspired by that Como Shambala. In short, everything about Uma Kallai speaks 'class': the small but very private villas, the breakfast restaurant overlooking the valley, the super-friendly staff (several of whom, apparently, came from Como Shambala). Uma Kallai is on the expensive end, but if you're looking for somewhere special that isn't huge like the Four Seasons nearby, this might be the haven for you. And I forget the name of the massage lady (Nina?) but she is one of the best.

Honestly, my only complaint about Uma Kallai is that some of the staff seem to have caught the Western marketing disease where they need constant reassurance that you're satisfied with the facilities and enjoying yourself. If you're paying the sort of tariff that this place commands, you can do without this sort of gentle badgering. To be fair, I suspect the staff were acting as instructed, but that didn't prevent the irritation.

Our stay at Uma Kalai was the best decision we could've made - it's a short drive from Ubud centre and still you feel like you're in the middle of a national park. Beautiful view, great rooms, phenomenal food. And yet, by far the best thing about our stay were the people working there. Throughout our stay we were treated like kings and at the same time very friendly. We have a feeling we were able to grasp a bit of Balinese culture and the way of living just by talking to out great hosts. All the people working here a true inspiration on how one should approach their job - with love, care and passion. We were impressed how every individual team member felt responsible for our total experience there, no matter their job description. Thank you Eka for keeping your team inspired, thank you Ami for your wonderful smile every morning, thank you Putu for the nice chats about football and cruises, thank you Ade for your care and recommendations, thank you Gusti for your great energy! A big thank you to your masseuse whose name we forgot and who jumped into the butler role for us :) A big thank you goes to your skilled masseuses who saved my back and to our driver and guide Dedu who made us fall in love with the Balinese way of living during our 1-day trip around Ubud area. Highly recommended, all high expectations exceeded and we want you to know that your influence on us goes beyond great customer service! One day we'll be back for sure! Stay awesome :)

Highest level of hospitality. Gusti and Puspita raised the bar. They were extremely responsive, available 24*7 for all yours needs. The staff is very warm and welcoming and they attend to each of your needs proactively and with a smile. My Wife’s birthday was 3 days after we check out. They still decorated the room and the chef got us a cake and the whole staff came to wish her birthday. He Property is also extremely well maintained. Rice terrace views are great. The private heated pool and steam bath was a bonus. Luxury redefined. Would highly recommend this.

Food was good but could have been better :).

Breathe-taking views, worth coming for those already. Peace and quiet. Very good fresh a la carte breakfast with things like smoothies and avocado toast. Really good thorough massage at the spa. When I asked if I could have milk in the room to use with the coffee capsules, I was given a small bottle of fresh milk and it was replenished daily - excellent service. Gym has a Pilates machine.

Room had too little space to lay down your bits and bobs, even a small chair/stool would help. When travelling alone in search of relaxation, too much attention (however kind and friendly) can feel just a little overwhelming - I don’t necessarily want to tell to people every day what I am going to do and then explain afterwards how it was.

The property is absolutely stunning and the views are incredible. Probably the best value for money luxury resort I’ve ever stayed in. The attention to detail with design, everything down to the textiles in the rooms, to the ceramics had thought put into it. The landscaping was beautiful, the rooms were cosy and the in hotel service was impeccable. It was also a nice touch that the villas had private steam rooms and heated plunge pools. The food at the restaurant was also amazing and I didn’t even want to go to any of the restaurants I had booked anymore because the hotel food was so fresh and delicious, they also accommodated my dietary restrictions. The spa services are also so soothing and a really great price for what you get, but nothing beats how personalised the service is. With only 6 rooms, you can assure all your needs will be well taken care of. The butlers and hotel team are incredible people who make you feel like family and attend to every request to the highest of standards. They also remember little things about you and use those details to make your stay extra special. It’s always nice when people remember things about you and your likes. They helped me curate a wonderful personalised itinerary to some rather out of the way places and went the extra mile to assist with other things like changing my flights when I couldn’t pay directly from my location due to my requiring to have a local bank to pay Garuda Indonesia for flight amendments. They helped me with fabric care on textiles after I brought home hand dyed fabric from a natural dye workshop and helped me vacuum pack and store perishables I had purchased from tours. If you’re thinking of staying here just do it. You will not regret it. It’s truly a paradise sanctuary in Ubud and the perfect place to rest, relax and let your troubles melt away.

There is nothing to dislike about the property it’s truly an amazing space and experience.

Everything is perfect!!!! *Service: The moment when we arrive the resort, Uma Kalai team, especially EKA and Gusti, welcomed us friendly and showed us the tiny tour around this isolated heaven. We were shocked by their 24-hours no stop service spirit and always got decent suggestions for our local trip and exploring adventure. They always acted before you mentioned your requirements. Such a warm and professional team. *Location: this resort looks like quite hidden from the Main Street, but you’ll find it far away from crowded tourists and located above a cliff, which is face to the rain forest, paddy fields and magnificent mountain scenery. Also there is a main river running through the bottom of our cliff. You cannot imagine the amazing feelings when you come here to enjoy your breakfast and listen to the river at the same time *Villas: there are only 6 villas of Uma Kalai. It’s so easy to miss your chance if you won’t book the room early in advance;) Our villa is installed with Sauna room and heated plunge pool surrounded by numerous trees, grass and flowers. To maximum enjoy all these facilities, we even tried the early swimming around 3am. Bathing ourselves inside the deep nature was one of my best experience. *Food: the choices on menu is little bit limited, but far enough for us to begin the local food tour. The breakfast including fruits, fresh juice, toast and hot dishes are all well served and light seasoning. We do like their special drink and very classic Bali dessert and almost eat it everyday! If you wanna explore more local food, food delivery will be a good choice. Uma Kalai team would even display your food and serve you in your villa or public area. Generally, thanks for this amazing resort and its team, I will strongly recommend Uma Kalai to any traveler who wanna get rid of tiredness and enjoy the pleasant time in Bali. You’ll never regret to choose here!

Nothing need to be improved, just keep going on

Our experience was just perfect from the beginning therefore from the moment we booked. Ms Nana and Ms. Eka the managers wrote to us in order to ask us if we need any assistance or any help for our trip to Bali. We received as well a villa upgrade that we have appreciated so much. We felt warmly welcomed at our arrival by Nana that was expecting us with a delicious ginger tea. During our stay we felt as we were in our friend’ s home, as this boutique hotel is composed only by 6 wonderful villas. In fact, it is not crowded at all, and the staff was super sincerely friendly, super available for any need. And the hotel view.. it is wow, just breathtaking. We had our meals mostly at the hotel restaurant and we enjoyed very much the menu . We have to thank as well for their kindness and hospitality Gusti, Ade, Dicky, Putu and Ayu. We also had 2 just amazing daily trips with Rana. Rana drive us and has been our guide for temples, coffee plantations and beaches. He was also so kind to invite us to see his family temple. Nothing, everything as just perfect

First of all the facilities are really great. Our room has lots of space. Bath, garden, pool, bed every aspects of the room are high quality. Restaurant area also has the best view. Every morning we adore the review. Coolers, smoothies, pancakes, eggs are delicious. When we arrived late to our room we had chance to order some snacks to our room. Potato fries, chicken roll also other favorites. The gym was increadible. I’m the only one who use gym and it was like special to me. Last but not least, the staff was amazing. Before our arrival they added us to whatsapp group for let them know if we have any need. When we arrived to hotel warm welcome and lemon grass tea make us to feel we were at home. Every morning at breakfast time they asked if we have any other needs. They were always smiling. They share places that must to visit on whatsapp. When we decided to go temple they gave us local clothes and also towel for waterfall. When we wanted to see nearby places, they quickly arrange ride. In a word they made our holiday unforgettable by each moment.
