The location. Immediately next to the South Downs with a footpath from the hotel. That is why we chose the hotel, which was good in all respects apart from the tardy welcome as outlined below.

It was Mother's Day the day after our stay, with 400 covers expected. On arrival we were told breakfast was at 0800 or not at all, despite it being advertised as available until 1000. Shortly after, I discussed this with Simon, the excellent Manager, who relented and allowed us breakfast at 0915. This was appreciated, but the following morning the dining room was full of staff preparing for brunch and lunch and we were very much made to feel a burden. I appreciate the concession allowed, but the hotel prioritised casual diners over residents to maximise income. No effort was made to inform us of breakfast restrictions prior to arrival, in fact we had several emails asking us our arrival time, which I had already stated at the booking stage.

Tottington Manor is in a scenic location with lovely food & friendly staff, reasonably clean & comfortable.

The room we stayed in could have been a little bit more luxurious, the wardrobe was not particularly good quality & the doors kept closing before we had chance to put our clothes in due to the floor not been level which we understand due to the age of the building but maybe a little bit more thought could have been put into where this piece of furniture was positioned, the window was in a very poor state of repair on the outside as the sill had virtually rotted off & we were very sceptical about opening it maybe this could be addressed, we understand it is probably a listed building & these repairs expensive but the property does not appear as 4 star quality inside or out.

Quiet location - although we were only 1 night so no time to appreciate the area. Lovely grounds. Good decoration in the hotel. Delicious meal in the restaurant, although should have had a starter as the main a smaller portion.

For the price the room was very, very small, and the mattress uncomfortably soft (having read this in previous reviews you could have expected at this price point it to have been sorted). A bad nights sleep. Coffee machine but no kettle or fridge. We could hear next door every time they used the bathroom or the coffee machine. I think for the significant price difference between Tottington and other hotels we would have expected more. My partner wanted me to note Bamboo Eco toilet rolls but the hotel still using plastic milk sachets.

The food (dinner and breakfast) was excellent - very nicely presented. We liked the coffee machine in our room. The restaurant décor was also very welcoming. The bathroom was clean and nicely furbished; we particularly liked the Molton Brown dispensers. Staff were exceedingly friendly/helpful.

The bed was too soft for us both; a very, very soft foam mattress. Unfortunately our door would not lock when we exited the room. We did report this twice, and the staff did try to fix it but it was still not working on day 2 when we left. There was an additional bolt/lock on the inside of the door, but this is not acceptable if you wish to leave expensive belongings in your room. We assumed this was just the case for the room we stayed in. Overall the hotel was very clean, however lightshades and switches could be better dusted/cobwebs removed.

Great location surrounded by nature - fields with horses and sheep ☺️ Hotel itself has a lovely garden with flowers and tables. It’s a proper old building, very well maintained though. Loved the atmosphere and interior. Also we tried to open a window in our room and it seemed to be broken, so they upgraded us to a better room for free, which was very nice.

Standart rooms are tiny as well as shower cabins in the bathroom. Thin walls so we were literally able to hear people talking / watching tv in the other room. Breakfast is okay.

Hotel was lovely , staff were so friendly and nice you can tell they really care about your stay with them they go the extra mile to male sure you have everything you need. Dinner , room and Breakfast was amazing. Outside area during the day and at night was magical surrounded by sheep and lambs in the field We have the most peaceful, amazing break as a couple together ❤️ Thank you to all the staff

Amazing friendly staff, nothing was too much trouble. Location is beautiful. Restaurant with delicious food, the breakfast was very tasty. Bed was very comfortable and our jacuzzi bath was a great addition to the room.

Carpet wasn’t hoovered well from a previous stay, rose petals and hair pins on the floor but wasn’t a huge issue for us as the room was very clean in every other way.

A GEM OF A HOTEL - Tottington Manor Hotel is located at the foot of the rolling hills of the South Downs overlooking fields full of a perfect English scene - almost like a film set. You arrive to a large car park and we’ll kept gardens and outside terraces. Marco at reception was great and showed us our fantastic room which was well equipped, spotlessly clean and very comfortable. The staff clearly dedicated to their task ensuring the hotel is prepared to the very highest standards. Phil (the manager or might have been the owner) was one of the best hotel managers I have met - friendly, natural and professional to the tee. We ate in the restaurant and was impressed with the quality of the food, the choice and the friendly and efficient bar staff and waiters. During the night and morning there was perfect peace and quiet - with bird song that greeted us as we woke. The next morning we had breakfast - the full English was one of the best I’ve had so I cannot praise it anymore. Phil was there again and move about meeting n greeting the guests with natural flair and humour. We came with an Electric Vehicle which needed charging. Phil and Marco could not have been more helpful. After my extension cable failed We eventually sorted a way to get it done and like I say - Phil was able to bend over backwards to help. oh - and they didn’t even want to charge me for the power. If you are travelling this way then I cannot recommend this place anymore highly. We will be back. Thanks Phil, Marco and all your amazing staff. You are one of the best.

EVERYTHING WAS PERFECT.

The country setting is very peaceful so views from bedrooms and terrace are beautiful. There is a relaxed atmosphere with tasty locally sourced dishes and drinks. The hospitality is again of a high standard with nothing too much trouble. The decor is stylish but inkeeping.

There is nothing to complain about. However it would be useful to have a magnifying in the bathroom.

well everything , we would definitely go again wonderful location for peace and quiet and allow dogs . quality food and drinks , with nothing being too much trouble from the staff ! we arrived late because of traffic and had missed the cut off time for food ! but they were fantastic and rustled us up something tasty , everything hit the spot with very comfy bed we slept very well
