We had the most beautiful stay at the Kasuga Hotel, I can not recall having a more lovely experience anywhere. We stayed in the Japanese style rooms and were delighted with every aspect of the room and amenities. It is not a new hotel but this adds to the charm and beauty of this place. The staff were just so polite and helpful, they were very attentive and kindhearted. We made use of the bikes available for use/ hire which was an efficient and enjoyable way to get around the many sacred sites of Nara.

We loved every aspect of our stay and hope to return one day.

Great location to all the tourist sites, kaiseki dinner was beautiful as well as the Japanese breakfast in the morning. Very generous amount of food. Our room was incredibly spacious and well presented, the private outdoor bath was really relaxing and easy to use. We are foreigners so very much enjoyed this ryokan experience with the guidance of the lovely staff (specifically in the restaurant) who were exceptional. Thank you so much.

We were not advised at booking that there was construction going on so was quite a surprise to walk up to the hotel and see it covered in scaffolding. The hotel does have some wear and tear as other reviews make note of however it’s consistent with the age of the hotel and adds to the charm. We did not find this a hinderance to our stay.

The hotel is very conveniently located for visiting Nara Park and Temples. Very convenient to the park and temples and 250 meters from the Osaka subway line. Excellent dinner and breakfast. Very good onsen. Recommended for those who enjoy classic Japanese ryokan hotels.

The age of the hotel is felt. Everything is clean and tidy, but there are signs of wear and tear and long years of operation without reconstruction and major repairs. However, those who love Japan of the end of the last century will find their charm in this. Where can you get matches at the reception desk today?

The hotel has a large reception area where you are greeted by friendly staff. Complimentary drinks are available. We loved our Japanese style room, nice snd spacious. Staff put the futon beds out between 6.30-8.30pm. The onsen was a welcome retreat after long days of walking. I loved the outside onsen the most. We had the western style breakfast, which was all served ready at your table and delicious.

Some of the carpets in the corridors look tired, especially the back stairs leading to the onsen area.

Lovely Hotel and great onsen. The hotel is located at the heart of Nara and very convenient to spend more than just a day trip. Breakfast was lovely (we did the Japanese one). Onsen was gender separated and beautiful - especially the outside part, and had all add-ons you can wish for, including a tea station and a massage chair. Rooms were very spacious - unusual for Japan and comfy.

The hotel is a bit on the older side, but very clean and has a great charm - we did not mind it at all. Staff was amazing!

The Japanese breakfast was fantastic. A huge variety of different foods, including steamed eggs that cooked at the table over a burner, delicious grilled salmon, and miso soup. The tatami rooms were large and relaxing, and the cedar bathtub in the room was super deep and smelled amazing. Very close to the deer park, too!

The hotel restaurant was completely booked for dinner, so it would've been great if they'd provided maps/guides to other restaurants in the area. It's very close to a shopping street, though, so it wasn't difficult to find something to eat.

The room was fantastic. It was huge, especially by Japanese standards. The location was great, short bus ride from the main JR station and walking distance to the other station with connections to Osaka and Kyoto. The onsen was lovely with an open air pool. Very clean. The room had all the amenities you’d need, including Yukata and slippers as well as decent toiletries. There was a separate bath and toilet in a very large bathroom with a separate dressing area

You have to book breakfast in advance. The restaurant has a limited capacity so we couldn’t book in when we arrived.

The staff were super friendly and helpful, at the front desk and especially at breakfast. The public baths were amazing. I had never been in one before and they had instructions on how to use, they were single sex and also we had them to ourselves which was amazing. I would highly recommend the outdoor hot bath super relaxing.

The fittings are quite retro, but it didn’t affect the stay and added to the charm really.

Absolutely perfect location on the edge of Nara Park. It was lovely being able to go for a walk in the park at dusk and visit the shrines after most if the tourists had left. The hotel is also close to the shopping area and virtually nextdoor to the train station. Plus it has a very nice onsen.

Some of the breakfast was slightly difficult for Western tastes

The location is super super convenient, literally right next to the station and Nara Park. The rooms were very nice, and very spacious. We even had a private tub that could easily fit two people. Breakfast is a great experience as well, with a huge variety of authentic Japanese dishes.

Honestly nothing comes to mind. You get a free drink when you check in, I guess the one thing to say is that your selection of drinks is limited to coffee or tea. There is also hot cocoa.
