Stayed here a few times for the WSB weekend. Close proximity to to track (£8 in an Uber). We stayed in cottage this time which had fab views. And we were able to park our car right outside. There’s now a lovely seating area beside the river which is great for drinks post-racing. Staff pleasant, we only had breakfast which was nice enough (usual buffet), but restaurant seemed busy and meals looked nice. It does get warm in the rooms as no air conditioning but there was a large fan in the room which we left on. The cottages are sheltered from the sun meaning they are actually more comfortable in the heat than the main hotel. We will be staying again.

It was a pleasant and value for money. No complaints for what we paid.

All the staff, from top to bottom were polite and helpful. The location was beautiful

On looking closer, the buildings and rooms are very tired, and in dire need of some TLC,although the rooms were clean, flaking paint and scuff marks on walls and doors somewhat distracted from the initial impression. We were there with the intention of using the hotel as a possible wedding venue, but although the initial impression was very good, unfortunately the condition of the buildings have let things down somewhat. As previously stated, the staff were amazing, so its a shame the owners don't take as much pride as the people working there

Stayed in a ground floor cottage room. Alot of noise from upstairs floor boards. Room was very warm, a wall mounted fan in addition to the plug in fan would be good. Breakfast was nice however there wasn't much hot food left when I went. Sausages were really nice though. There was cereal, muffins and toast available but I wanted a hot breakfast. Had to find someone to ask if tea/coffee was available as none offered/not self service. Special mention for staff member Lloyd the house keeper. He is an absolute gem of a man. Grounds are lovely. Lots of different sitting areas outside.

Dinner - after 45 minutes, chips were served stone cold, burger was dry.

Stunning, quiet location by the river, landscaped gardens and lovely patios by the river bank, which are lit at night - excellent to unwind with a drink after a long day out. Reception, Restaurant, Bar and Housekeeping Staff very friendly and polite, excellent customer service throughout. We had a nice Sunday roast at the restaurant. Comfortable beds

We stayed in the ground floor room located in the Cottages section - since the building dates back to 17th century, we heard a lot of noise from the room upstairs through the ceiling. The bathroom was on a small side and not wide enough to comfortably go past the vanity unit with the bathroom door locked. Breakfast was running out quite early on so had to wait for more food to be served. No fridge/mini bar/ bottled water in the room, so make sure to bring your own.

The hotel itself was lovely - it's a very good wedding venue. Small things could improve the room i.e. The mirror in the bathroom was far too high ( I could only see above my eyebrows ) I had to ask for a glass for the bathroom., The full length mirror on the back of the door was little use because the desk was so close to it that you could only stand approximately 6 inches away There was no mirror at all above the desk - this could be easily remedied. When you are going to a wedding at the venue I'm surprised that such small but obvious things were overlooked.

Check-in was excellent, very pleasant and helpful receptionist, I had completed the electronic check-in prior to arrival. Breakfast is excellent and starts at 07:00hr which is a major bonus when visiting Donington Circuit as Driver briefings tend to commence circa 08:00hr. Evening meals in the restaruant are acceptable, the menu could do with more fish and vegetarian options. The restaurant staff are very pleasant and helpful.

The rooms could do with a refresh. Certain items are a little tired and perhaps past their sell-by date. However, the rooms are clean and comfortable.

We love the hotel, it is in a beautiful setting, the cottages are dog friendly and have easy access to outside. The bed was super comfy. Bathroom was excellent with great shower, and complimentary toiletries. We loved the Derbyshire tourist book to get ideas of where to go. Our second time back here and would certainly recommend.

The only thing is that their was a wedding in the house which didn’t bother us at all until it was pick up time at midnight, there were lots of cars and people coming and going for about an hour, people shouting outside, which upset our dogs, so may just a heads up that there was a wedding during our stay we could have prepared for it. But other than this it was great!

I'm reluctant to leave such a great review because this is the best kept secret in the Midlands and I don't want everyone booking up all the rooms! I absolutely love it here. The location is exquisite. The food is superb. The staff are fantastic. I just can't fault it. And when I say the price is incredible, you'd be a fool not to try it. (Please don't put the prices up though, management). The river ambling alongside the property is so tranquil, the history is intriguing. It's actually located in the hamlet of King's Newton. How cute is that? I will stay here whenever I can as long as the quality stays the same and the prices don't go up too much. Lol. I used to think that about Whittlebury Spa in Northampton and then literally everyone and their aunty went flooding there and I haven't been back since. We were crammed in like sardines and the service went downhill. So, yeah, this place is amazing. But don't book all the rooms when I want to go please!

The only thing that I can think of, which is a bit petty I suppose, is that I got skinny fries with my burger (which wasn't cheap) and I was hoping for chunky homemade chips. But, hey, I'm not mad l!

Friendly staff, I feel they do go above and beyond to make your stay the best that it can be. Dog friendly. Very clean room. The hotel was spotlessly clean. The drive down and the area are very picturesque Best shower Best scrambled eggs There are plenty of options for breakfast and the fact that you can decide how much or little you want so there is no waste is a great idea. Great grounds for walking the dog. Overlooking the river Trent We will definitely be booking again. It is an old building and yes it is tired looking in places and going on old reviews some people just don't appreciate that these buildings take some looking after and the owners are doing their best, therefore I feel they have priced it right. It is architecturally amazing.

Old carpet (stains) in the room but it was hovered well. Coffee at breakfast was not palatable at all but they did bring me peppermint tea when I asked.

The room was a great size, it was lovely and warm. The staff were very friendly and made is feel right at home. This place has beautiful rooms, the decor is stunning and very tasteful. It was warm, clean and had everything we needed. Beautiful little place 5 minute drive from the airport. Will definitely be using it again before our flights.

I'm aware the rooms are old and the odd creaky floorboard is part of the charm but it was pretty much every floorboard the creaked and we almost didn't want to move around at all so that we didn't disturb the guest below us. I'm not sure what's involved in amending this but if it's possible then I think that'd be a much welcomed change as I can't imagine it was great for the people below when we were moving around to leave at 5am, even when we tiptoed. It wouldn't put us off staying again but I thought it was worth mentioning for the comfort of the guest both in the room and below.
