I enjoyed my stay here so much that I decided to extend it for another day and vook an extra night! The room was lovely and spacious. It was always kept clean and tidy, and the bed was large and very comfortable. The staff were helpful and polite. I made friends with Amanda who was often at reception during my stay. We've had some lovely chats and I really hope we can keep in touch, in the future. We absolutely loved the Health Club as well and the Cafe over there. The staff over there were fantastic too! When I said that a member of my family would be joining me for a late breakfast, the person who served me said that was no problem and said that she would have still made breakfast for her, even though they normally stop serving breakfast at 11.30. I love the way the lady just accommodated us, and there was no fuss or drama about it. That really did mean so much to us. I would definitely come back here again. I love the chilled out vibes and relaxed atmosphere here.

Nothing at all. Everything was amazing.

Close to Durham City centre and all the outskirts retail parks. Rooms were clean, well maintained and quiet. Good shower and Elemis shampoo, conditioner, shower gel and hand wash provided in dispensers. Spa in the next building was a bonus. The £25 Spa Day Pass is discounted to £10 per stay per guest if purchased at the Hotel Reception. Facilities include pool, sauna, steam, jacuzzi and changing rooms equipped with lockers, great showers and swimsuit wringers and ‘proper’ hairdryers.

The toilet on the Ground Floor by Reception did not create a good first impression. The bin was overflowing and it needed a clean. Keycard failed 4 times which required returning back down to Reception each time and delayed accessing our room upon check in. It transpired that there was an issue with the battery keycard slot. Shampoo/body wash in the Spa shower was a combined product. Was expecting better of a Bannatyne Spa.

Great value hotel. Lovely, friendly and helpful staff. The rooms are a good size, clean and very comfortable. Asked for a ground floor room that was easily accessible due to disability and was allocated a room so close to the main reception that was great! Used the leisure centre this visit for breakfast and really impressed with the choice/cost. But also really like the bar in the reception as there’s enough choice of drinks/snacks and a comfortable seating area. Have stayed here many times now for Uni drop off/pick up and will return. Thank you so much for another lovely stay.

The shower needs a grab handle as it’s dangerously slippery especially if you have any mobility issues or elderly.

The hotel and staff were brilliant!!!

The spa cafe!! The service was appalling. On the Saturday morning there was only 1 staff member on..understandly slow service. However on the Sunday morning there were 3 staff on...my order was forgotten about and eventually came an hour later. I am diabetic and have to eat..I pointed out I was feeling v unwell but still had to wait. On what I assume is Durhams busiest wkend, you would normally assume there would be adequate staffing levels at least!!

We really enjoyed our visit to Durham. The hotel was great, comfy bed, clean room/bathroom, tea/coffee making facilities.... all you need for good break. It was a 35-40 minute walk from the centre of Durham, but as we do a lot of walking anyway that didnt phase us, we cut through a local park area and down the river - it was good to see more of Durham! For those who dont enjoy so much of a walk there is a bus stop on the main road near to the hotel and buses were coming along every 15 minutes of so. Breakfast isnt served in the hotel building, but across the car park in the sports/spa/leisue centre. There was a good breadfast selection but we opted for the full English which was lovely. For those of you wanting to use the leisure facilites there is a pool, gym rooms and spa. I think it was £10 for the duration of our stay to use these facilities but we didnt bother as we were out all day after breakfast. Durham is lovely, and there is something for everyone. The beautiful cathedral and castle, lots of eateries, traditional pubs, lively bars and river walks. Not far from Durham is the Beamish - The Living Museum of the North set in 350 acres - a must see.

I honestly cannot think of anything we didnt like.

The service was excellent and the staff were very nice and accommodating to all our requests. The room was nice and comfortable with a large double bed. The bar also had a nice range of drinks at reasonable prices. The room price was also very affordable. Bus stop nearby was useful to travel into the centre of Durham. I would've liked to visit the spa but time did not allow unfortunately.

It would have been nice to have some air conditioning as we had to keep the windows fully open after checking in before coming back in the late evening or it would've been too hot. The toilet was also difficult to flush.

Bed very comfortable. Room was nice and warm with the electric heater on. Also, the towel rail in the bathroom was lovely and hot and made the bathroom really toasty.

If I had one small criticism it would be to say that some more colour in the bedroom would be nice. The decor in the rooom was very 'biege'. A little bit more thought for splashes of colour would make it perfect. Also, I hadn't realised that if you book direct use of the gym is free...otherwise it is £15 a day.

Large clean room with large TV. Staff were friendly and helpful. The location is ideal for visiting Durham as there is a regular bus service from just outside the hotel. The health spa made a very tasty gluten-free breakfast, staff were very helpful.

The shower was a little old fashioned, after a few cold shocks, I got the temperature I required but intermittently, It may take some time to learn how to use it properly.

Clean room, sheets and mattress very comfortable, and shower and bathroom spot on.

It was in the 20c+ the night we stopped (May 2nd 2025), but would have liked to leave both windows open during the night. However, the noise from the traffic throught the night (lorries etc), was very noisey. We were in room 31, and if we go back to visit our daughter at university, I would ask for a room looking out onto the car park at the front.

Lovely place to stay

Unfortunately we were there at the wrong time as drunken people had spun out of control and the noise was unbearable we struggled to sleep and contemplated leaving in the middle of the night. This isn’t the hotels fault but walls aren’t very sound proof🤣 we heard the couple get arrested. After that we slept fine.
