Self check in was quick and easy. Room was very comfortable and spacious. Very clean and staff are friendly.

I have recently gone through a breakdown in my marriage. My ex in-laws were also staying there, unknown to myself. When they checked in my name came up in their booking aswel (due to the same surname), they were asked to confirm if they had booked 1 or 2 rooms. They told my ex I was there who messaged me to confirm that. There were no issues with my ex, but I feel confidentiality should be a bit more of a priority because had my ex been an abuser it could have been very bad for myself.

It is a lovely space with a friendly and relaxed atmosphere, they even found my lost sunglasses! It was great seeing so many happy dogs around too.

The range of vegan and vegetarian meals was a bit limited (though delicious), and the wild mushroom rissotto, although the taste was good, was rather stodgy and needs to be served with a salad. The heating was also a bit dodgy as at night I was woken both times because I was cold and the room was freezing. On the second day it wasn't very warm in the room all day. It's possible the latter was a temporary problem.

Staff. Room. Food. Elisha was especially caring and helpful. I'd booked for our wedding anniversary (we're from Cheshire), but hubby was admitted as an emergency to Northumbria hospital. Before we could even check in. So I had to stay here alone and extended my stay to 2 nights. Which Elisha kindly handled the extra booking. All staff were welcoming, but Elisha was exceptional. We will return 2026, so can thoroughly enjoy the Commissioners Quay and the surrounding area.

There's nothing to dislike.

Good location, harbour view nice, spacious comfortable room, breakfast good (except for cooked English option) Good spacious lounge/dining/bar area.

Didn't like the English breakfast much. The sausage was pale and anaemic and seemed undercooked as did the bacon, one small half tomato and tiny pot of beans that were lukewarm. Much prefer proper buffet arrangement found in many other hotels., but the freshly squeezed orange was great. Although the room was comfortable, spacious and appeared clean, there was an unpleasant smell as if dirty smelly mops had been used to clean the bathroom floor. Window did not open enough for good ventilation.

Checked in & had a warm welcome with plenty of advice about our stay. Room was lovely, very clean & had all we needed. Liked the fact it had an iron, ironing board & a stand up fan. Breakfast was exceptional, great choice on the buffet menu,. Loved the freshly squeezed orange machine & the pancake maker. Opted for the the large Eggs Benedict which was exceptional. My husband had the full English which he also enjoyed. Well worth the visit

That our stay wasn't long enough

The location was perfect for our needs, great that it had parking. Brilliant choices for breakfast, help yourself to the cold selection or cooked to order hot selection. Large bedroom, very well decorated. Restaurant had a great menu with a good selection of foods. We ate there both nights and the meals were delicious. Staff were very welcoming and friendly.

Maybe put a blind on the bedroom window to block out the early sunlight, 5am.

The breakfast was good, and the room was a lovely size the bed very comfortable.

When we went down for breakfast on the Saturday morning the member of staff was very abrupt, as it is not advertised that the buffet breakfast service stops at 9:30 as the menu in the room said the breakfast was served till 11:00am and the member of staff was blunt to the point of rudeness explaining that we would now only be able to order hot breakfast from the bar.

Comfortable room, nice dining/bar area. Good breakfast and evening meal.

The noise from the windmill outside. If the window was open it was quite noisy through night. Although we were told there was a group in the bar area on Sat night and it might be loud, we didn't realise how loud it would be. It was absolutely DEAFENING. Sometimes the staff in the bar/dining area didn't acknowledge customers and left them standing for quite some time. More staff training is needed in customer service ie "someone will be with you in a minute".

Hotel like new, rooms were clean and as the build was 2016 the decor was really like new. The bed was 2x3/4 matresses made into a large double. Room 304, which we had had a sea view, which we asked for. Breakfast was really good, and I had trouble eating all the full English. The restaurant menu at night was good, but a little limited, but everything looked home made, not pinged.

Although the hotel is really nice, there are very few options to eat out of the hotel, maybe why it's so popular with the locals. There is also very little shopping locally, typical high street as are a lot of towns now, sadly. There are supermarkets Morrison's and Asda. If you want shopping, then you'll need to go into Newcastle, lots of local busses to other locations as well. In addition, there was no " big" light in the room, no problem for me, but the wife had to use the bathroom to see to do her makeup.

Staff very friendly and helpful. Made to feel welcome from the very start. Room was really good (family room) we had a great sea view. ensuite was spotless and supplied useable soaps etc. Breakfast was amazing really good full English (too much for me but husband managed to finish). Good selection for continental and the coffee was great. We did not have dinner due to other commitments, however, the menu looked really good and good prices, will certainly dine next time.

I honestly cannot think of anything that could be better. Even the outdoor smoking area was clean!!
