We nearly almost always stay at this property as it is in my childhood hometown, the facilities are excellent. Although it is in town so it is within minutes of the coastal route which takes you miles along the Northumberland coastline where you pass castles, harbour and the most fabulous beaches - a Bamburgh beach is consistently being voted the best in the UK 🇬🇧 General Manager Khalifa and his staff are friendly and attentive
On the first morning we couldn’t shower as the water pressure was low. This is due to Work being undertaken to expand the property… however, contacted General Manager and the problem was rectified. One consistent gripe though is having to pay £10 per night to park your car… I’ve been using this hotel for a number of years previously parking was free ..

The room was very comfortable, tastefully decorated and warm but we found the bedside tables a nuisance. They were very small with a big table lamp stuck on top. This was inconvenient as we needed to put tablets, clocks, water etc on the table. I put mine on the floor put we needed to leave the other one as a bedtime switch off . The hotel had romantic memories for us, being where we met almost 60 years ago! It was convenient for where we wanted to go.
As above but the £10 charge per night for parking is outrageous. You wouldn't pay that in a top notch hotel! We also found the £15 breakfast charge too much. I can't eat a cooked breakfast and my husband has just eggs, beans, tomatoes and mushrooms so we didn't purchase a breakfast at the Portland.

Our spacious room! Beautifully decorated. Quality bedding and fabrics. Nice tea tray. Free toiletries. Mini fridge in the room. Good lighting options for reading. Bargain price so great value for money. Socket near a mirror!! We didn't use the coffee machine but had we stayed longer, we would have done. Gorgeous shower. Helpful and friendly staff both on reception and in the dining room. We had a complaint regarding one of our meals and it was dealt with perfectly. Very pleasant Merlot!
Would have preferred a drinking area prior to eating. The whole space is the dining room which was fine but it was quite busy and a tad noisy which isn't the end of the world but it would have been appreciated by us. There was a singer performing which we didn't know about before we booked. She was OK but not something we personally enjoy whilst eating. My husband is a real ale drinker so the selection of beer was disappointing for him but he was relieved to see Peroni! My husband's gammon was unfortunately very overcooked. It was more like crispy bacon. Disappointing but it was dealt with very well. £10 parking fee. Presumably people dining who drive don't pay for parking and so it was £10 for overnight. Would rather pay a couple more pounds on the room rate and it include parking.

Food was really good. Room was comfortable and warm. Wifi was a little weak in the evenings and dropped a lot. Little dissapointed having to pay £10 pound per night extra to park my car outside my room hence I never took the car to the hotel.I fel it should be included in the price of my stay. Bar staff very friendly and helpful. Room service very good .

We had a very friendly welcome. Rooms large with modern boutique hotel feel including the foyer and stairway. The little extras like..a fridge, hot chocolate, and biscuits. The pub was welcoming and staff were very friendly. Gyros kebab was huge with chips and greek salad was delicious. Prices weren't too bad.
The £10 parking fee for one night. One side of our bed had a huge dip in it. No plug socket by a mirror for hair appliances. one bedside lamp didn't work also the mirror light stopped working.

I stayed at the lodge. Property was clean, staff were sweet and professional.
It was on the pricey side considering that it’s the only hotel in the area. In the lodge, no lifts are available and since the staircase was narrow it was difficult to use with heavy luggages. Room was clean but too hot, had to switch off the heating and open window to manage to sleep.

Staff very good, helpful and happy, the manager was very helpful. Sunday lunch was excellent, also ate on the first night of our stay here, all four of us commented on how good the food was.
I am sure the breakfast was value for money but at seemed a bit expensive for the two of us, so we skipped this and ate a bit later when we were out. The car parking fee also seemed a bit odd on site at £10 per night.

Room was very clean and modern, looked freshly refurbished. Bathroom was great with a good shower and toiletries. Had everything you could need, expresso machine, kettle, fridge, safe, iron. Room warm and comfortable and not too noisy.
Light in corridor outside the room wasn't working so very dark and unwelcoming especially in the evening. Expresso machine wasn't very hot. Being charged £10 for parking per night is an unnecessary additional charge. On their website it adds it automatically and can't be de-selected. Breakfast was OK but not worth £15 for a carvery style full English that's not cooked fresh to order.

Friendly staff Pub is nice and had a good evening meal there
Thought it was a reasonable price @ £81 but on arrival was told I had to pay £10 to park my car and then offered a continental breakfast only for another £15?!! Didn't opt for that So bed and an uncooked breakfast would have come in at £106?!! No disrespect but it's Ashington not Newcastle Car parking charge should have been more obvious when I booked

Members of staff were lovely and very helpful, breakfast great, clean room, very welcoming
Having to pay £10 per day for parking, could understand if it was a city centre location, toilet very close to the wall in the bathroom, if I had been any bigger or left handed it would have been impossible, arrived Sunday and had a workman start doing work in the room below for a few hours, it wouldn't have bothered me usually but I work nights and my neighbour back home as had workmen in for the last 2 weeks so I was a bit annoyed, just wanted peace and quiet 🤪
