We stayed in the stable block, a short walk on a loose pebbled path to the main house. 2 comfortable days were spent in a well room with the door opening directly into the pebbled stable yard. No sign of horses! The paths around the large house helped us enjoy the stay in a very peaceful country location, with beautifully maintained luscious green lawns, surrounded by long established trees. There are also a flower garden and a kitchen garden, with products from the latter contributing to the delicious restaurant meals. The elegance of the house interior made us feel like special guests. The road from the A1 is relatively narrow, but the absence of houses means hardly any cars!
The clothes storage in our room was a cupboard covered by a curtain. a bit primitive. The step up to the front door is very worn and could present problems to any guest with walking difficulties. A ramp would be better, but that may be in visual conflict with the Classic exterior of the building. Driving into the carpark with a long car is tricky due to the narrow approach. However, there are plenty of open spaces around the back of the gardens. The loose pebbles in the car parking area make transfer of wheeled suitcases difficult. Carrying by the handle is slightly easier except for the weight!

Beautiful country house hotel. Lovely grounds. Bar and drawing rooms really nice. Staff very helpful, great service. Food in the restaurant was excellent.
Just minor things, but a couple of details. Only one teaspoon for the in room drinks station (I said minor!). Bathroom was very large, but was a bit cold (just a towel rail, no underfloor heating). Water pressure was a bit low. At breakfast the toast machine was making a loud metallic squeaking. Didn't seem to bother anyone else but was like nails on a chalk board for me. Hopefully will be repaired promptly.

Give it E shot! Scuse the pun but do yourself a favour and treat yourself to a break at Eshott Hall. My wife and I together with another couple decided to give ourselves an autumn pamper and booked a 1 night break with dinner in this lovely Northumberland hotel. The palladian villa sits in its own mature ground surrounded by exquisite gardens and woodland. The giant hardwoods are perhaps as old as the building! The hotel has a varied choice of accommodation from adjoining stables rooms and garden cottages but we decided that the featured rooms within the original building merited the extra expense and we were certainly not disappointed. Our room was 'The Wisteria' and I wouldn't be surprised if it was possibly the signature room for the hotel... it could well have had a total makeover recently it was that nice and fresh and faced out towards the front lawn. The lounges and bar were typical for the period that it represented with enormously high ceilings and ornate cornices and a fireplace you could have fit your car into it was so big.. We wouldn't like to cop the bill to keep the fire burning with coal and logs on those winter evenings that are about to be on us in tScusehe coming weeks however. Our next visit will probably be in the summer when we can more appreciate the delightful garden and lawns and generally make use of the tables and chairs around the entrance with some drinks and nibbles. As we have a dog he was happy as larry and was fetted by all the staff and Arlo has already mentioned that he definitely wants a return visit in the not too distant future. .. the breakfast sausages that they treated him to perhaps has something to do with that! Now would a good time to mention the staff... every member of staff was a credit to this hotel and as such the management would do well to remember this.. Particular mention should go to Victoria and Marissa who excelled in their attentiveness to our every need..

Eshott Hall is an 18th century stone hall set in its own wooded grounds. The very attractive building and outbuildings are instantly welcoming and every member of staff we met was friendly and helpful. The room was tastefully furnished in period style but lacked none of the facilities we needed. Breakfast began with cereal or croissants or fruit or toast and jam, according to taste. Following that there was a range of choices from full cooked through eggs Benedict to kippers or eggs (scrambled, poached or fried) on toast with either smoked salmon or bacon. Portions were generous and quality was high. We used the restaurant on one evening and enjoyed ‘fine dining’ and a varied wine list. The atmosphere throughout was restfully calm.
All our expectations were exceeded BUT if you want a pool or gym this is not the place for you. The property has recently changed ownership and changes will be made - we very much hope they do not harm the character of this special place.

We were on Bed and Breakfast, so were paying for dinner. Breakfast was nicely portioned, lots of choice, including meat free options. Dinner had fantastic food options, and was well worth the cost. The hall is set back from any roads so it's beautifully quiet. We were staying in the old stables and I was able to park about 3 metres from the door to our room, which made packing and unpacking a breeze.
The access road is a bit of a trek, as it's single track with passing places. Leaving also requires merging onto the A1 from a standing start, and it can take a little time for a gap in traffic to appear.

The food is of a high standard and the service is excellent. I got the impression that this is a family run business, and it is clear that everyone there is passionate about the place, the service and the atmosphere. The grounds are stunning, well kept and expansive. We enjoyed a long, relaxing walk. I loved the drawing room where my wife and I spent a late night with tea and a book. Highlight of our stay. My wife describes the place as a mansion out of a Bridgerton episode.
The beautiful period building is let down by its interior's poor state of repair. Much of the trims, skirting, even furniture are clearly quite old, chipped, faded and in need of some refreshment. Not sure why, but our room had about 15 moths and 12 crane flies the first night we stayed. Being in the middle of a forest, my guess is that it was aired prior to our arrival, but nobody went back to check for non-paying guests!

The attitudes of the staff were great, they were friendly and helpful, initiated genuine conversation and were an absolute asset to the hotel creating a relaxing atmosphere without being pompous or stuffy. The quality of food was great, the room was great.
Small staircase to room had no handrail. Dinner paid for with the room booking was not cost effective as you could choose 3 courses from the menu for less. A ridiculous charge if you only had 2 courses. If you want my money in advance for dinner then you have to make it worthwhile. Also there was a service charge automatically added to the bill. I like to think that if you have paid for dinner it includes someone bring it from the kitchen to the table without charging more. Also there was no change to the menu night after night. Having the option of at least one daily special would have been good.

It has a lovey luxurious homely feel as it isn’t oversized and keeps that personable feeling. The style of the rooms and furnishings is in keeping for a period property, this is what I love about Eshott Hall, they haven’t spoilt it with modern decor etc. The staff are always super friendly and make you feel like part of the Eshott family. I am worried about any drastic changes that will occur when it changes hands later this year.
I think some of the finer details need some attention. Simple things like straightening pictures, cobwebs in corners and limescale on shower heads. Some rooms do need a refresh and tidy up but without changing the aesthetic. Comfier mattresses and pillows would be ideal. These things won’t stop me from coming back however.

We stayed on Sunday night and checked in late, hence not being able to rate the restaurant. Breakfast was wonderful though, so I'm sure we probably missed out! The converted stable room where we stayed was a great size. Everything was tastefully done, and the bathroom was enormous (we stayed in "Frankel"). The hotel itself is in a lovely situation, but still convenient for the A1. The staff were exceptional - couldn't fault them, and they went the extra mile for us as well whenever we requested something. I hope to bring the rest of my family up here to stay next time, and for longer so we have opportunity to explore the grounds.

The room was lovely (although very warm because we couldn't turn the heating down) and the staff professional and friendly. Dinner in the evening and breakfast in the morning were both very good indeed and generous. The wine list is high-quality, but pricey, and the bar service knowledgeable and helpful. We were able to sit outside with our drinks in the evening and enjoy the beautifully maintained grounds. Generally a very pleasant treat.
Very little could be improved upon. The biggest weakness was the owner himself, who held court with a group of ladies in the dining room over dinner. He spoke largely about himself, in a voice only just loud enough to dominate the room. It was clear from looks and smiles exchanged with other diners, that he was mildly annoying them as well.
