Hotel Kipping is conveniently situated very close to the main train and bus stations. It is also only a short walk into the centre of the old town. Given its central location it is also surprisingly quiet. The buffet breakfast is great and one morning I was also asked if I would like a freshly cooked omelette. The steak tartare was particularly popular.

I thought the hotel was a bit over priced, although I note that most hotels in Dresden are relatively expensive. Unfortunately the shower holder was broken in my room. I'm not sure why they haven't fixed it as it would only take a few minutes with a screwdriver. Maybe next time I stay I'll take a screwdriver with me and offer to fix it for a free nights accommodation !

I liked staying here. It is a fine old house, with fine old large rooms. While the furniture was not brand new, two chairs and a sofa gave plenty of choice. The shower was fine. And the lift was working when I was there. It was a heatwave when I arrived, so I was pleased to find a fan had been put in my room. Check-in was easy for me, though I think some days reception is closed early because there is a phone number on the door. Staff were helpful even if they knew less English than I knew German. Good choice for breakfast. And the hotel is very easy to find from the station! Just over the road.

If you are expecting to arrive late, I would tell the hotel in advance. Reception may not be open as late as the details suggest.

The hotel is situated a few minutes walk south from the central railway station (Dresden Hbf). The street is tranquil. There is a reception desk open from 07:00 to 20:00. Out of those hours, you need to contact the person via phone. The room was quite big. There was a lovely en-suite bathroom with a shower. They offer different types of towels. The bed was big. I also have a sitting corner with a armchair in my room. There was also a work desk. Breakfast was served at the desired time. You can announce when you want to have breakfast. The breakfast is very rich. You have different meat, cheese, vegetables, and fruit options. Lots of different drinks: water, juice, milk, tea, yoghurt, ... They backed their own bagels!

Lack of communication with the hotel. We had some questions before coming there, sent some inguiries that were left without any response. The staff didn't communicate in any other language than German (and maybe some Asians...). That could have been the reason for lack of communication with them. However, looks quite improfessional for me. In the times of Google translator - unacceptable. The staff just didn't care to take the effort to respond. Hotel Kipping is an authentic late-19th Century hotel that survived the massive bombing of Dresden in WW2 and now offers the experience of yesteryear's accommodation. Beautiful high-ceilinged rooms, parquet flooring, real balconies. The modern bathrooms are a little squeezed in but certainly adequate. This family-owned operation is super friendly, offers a delicious breakfast option and really do commit to a lovely experience for their guests in this delightful little city.

A very nice place to stay for a short visit to Dresden, with private parking options. The staff is very friendly, the rooms are pretty much all you need them to be; working airconditioning, clean bathrooms, spacious enough for two. We didn't have the breakfast but it looked good!

Most of it felt a bit outdated or not well enough looked after; the towels were a little raggedy on the edges, the soap bottle in the shower had been empty for a while, for example. Plus the interior could use a little touch up.

The owners said we couldn’t check in early which we knew already and we were fine as we were going out to explore Dresden. We wouldn’t be back till 9pm. We left and I forgot something in my bag 5 min later and we went back. There was a different person at the front desk and checked us in. Definitely language barrier.

We needed an affordable (but not shaby) hotel close to Dresden Hbf (100m ?). And Hotel Kipping served our needs ! Room as stated on website. Although furniture looks somewhat dated, it was clean and that is most important to us. Mattress so/so (soft), but that is subjective. Breakfast area (buffet) downstairs as well as outside terrace, but both we did not use during our short stay, so we cannot comment on that (looked nice though). Friendly staff. Great for an overnight stay !

We did not use any of the hotel facilities. Only needed a room to sleep and catch a train the next morning. So no negatives to mention !

Everything except the coffee. Clean, comfortable. It was a lovely old house, one of the few pre war buildings to survive. Very friendly and helpful and only a couple of minutes walk from the station. A very easy, flat walk into the town centre and the amazing old buildings.

The coffee. It was dreadful. Standard German and Austrian breakfast coffee seems to be flasks of a very weak coffee made hours before. I guess that is the local taste but I like to be able to smell and taste coffee in my drink.

The location is great. Although the train station is near, it is absolutely quiet. The breakfast is really good.

There is an old radio and clock ticking. Unfortunately I didn’t manage to switch this ticking off and couldn’t fall asleep quite long. But probably it is my own trigger
