Everything, I have been staying here for years and it's like coming home., All the reception staff are always very helpful and friendly and the restaurant staff too. The location is great and I love the room/s I usually stay in (rooms 8 or 10) with a sea view and Georgina the lady who usually cleans my room always does a very good job. I also stayed in Room 12 with my granddaughter in June which was a lovely room. She also loved her stay at the Expanse .The hotel is generally very comfortable with lounges to sit in and different options for eating either in the restaurant or attached Marine Bar and sandwiches also available throughout the day. The breakfasts in particular are very good..

Classic 1930s architecture, comfortable oak-panelled lounge downstairs, a bar in the hotel and another lively bar next door owned by the hotel. Bedroom and bathroom good size. Large choice of quality cooked breakfasts - I had kedgeree and my partner had eggs benedict. The beach is just across the road.

Looking a bit shabby outside and inside. Could do with redecoration. Our room had a balcony but it looked like it hadn’t been cleaned of bird droppings all year so you wouldn’t want to sit out there. It’s about a mile’s walk along the prom to the harbour area. The hotel car park is rather small and was full so we had to park on the street quite a distance away. Street parking is free behind the hotel though so I didn’t grumble too much.

The food is excellent. At breakfast you have the option of cooked breakfasts or cereals from the self service buffet which also includes a selection of yoghurts. I tried the full English one morning which includes black pudding which is always a huge plus in my books. I had porridge another morning and had scrambled eggs on toast another. All fantastic and the staff always cater for your needs. Evening meals (which are not included in the deal) are excellent quality foods and I advise booking this option if you are staying in the off-season as not many other pubs/restaurants serve food after 3/4pm.

A smaller light/desk lamp would have been a nice addition. The smaller lighting in the room is still too bright for when you are relaxing later in the evening.

Friendly greeting, exceptionally clean and well laid out room, including a separate bath and shower, walk in wardrobe, iron, ironing board. The food was exceptional too. We went for a family party with 80 guests and the quality of food was amazing but the serving and timing of the food courses was exemplary. Efficient but not rushed and the dining room team worked very well together to ensure friendly but professional service. Breakfast was included in our booking and again, fresh, local ingredients and a good choice.

Breakfast was really lovely, well cooked and plenty of it. It was also served quickly and was hot - if I had to improve anything, a smile on the waiting staffs' faces would have been nice :-) Room was comfortable and had an brilliant view of the beach/sea - only slight criticism would be that it's a bit dated decorwise and could maybe do with a freshening up - but that did not take away anything from the comfort or view. Lovely large bathroom that was spotless.

Decor of the room - personal taste I guess, but seemed a bit dated and furniture had seen better days.

Having visited this hotel some years earlier, its exterior is now definitely in need of attention with peeling paint visible on much the front of the hotel. Our room was clean but very dated, and our view was a service area, pipes, and constant noise of nesting pigeons and the hotel extraction fan. We had to open the windows, as there was no air conditioning but was afraid to open them too far, in case said pigeon decided to make a visit to the room.

My second time at this hotel, this time on the 4th floor with a good sea view and a double bed. The room had everything I needed, tea, coffee, hot chocolate, TV, safe, loads of coat hangers and a shower with lots of hot water. The breafast was plentiful with a good choice and there was ample car parking for free at the rear of the hotel. The free Wi-Fi was also very good and fast.

Nothing to complain about, if I had to be picky the hair dryer in the bathroom was quite feeble, blowing out luke warm air, but other than that I had no other problems.

We booked a basic room but it was spacious and we even had a sea view from the two comfy chairs by the window. The location overlooking the sea is brilliant with easy access for walks on the promenade. We love the old fashioned comfortable lounge, which was beautifully decorated for Christmas. Excellent breakfast.

The bathroom was definitely in need of refurbishment but it was very clean, and there were lovely soft towels. The room had had a radiator that was too small and when I asked about extra heating I was advised to look out the extra heater in the wardrobe but there wasn't one there.

The whole team at The Expanse were fabulous, friendly and helpful. Our room was excellent. Super large bed, great sea views, and a newly refurbished bathroom with separate shower and bath. Breakfast was superb. Great choice of hot dishes, which were freshly cooked, and presented on hot plates!!

My only comment of sadness is that the outside of the hotel needs a serious makeover. First appearances spoil what is a beautiful hotel, which has great rooms , great people, and a cracking breakfast

All okay.

When I was last there the Balconies were getting dirty as no-one had time to clean them, but a sea view & good food is worth the visit. This time the Veranda needed a jolly good clean - again they possibly can’t afford to pay anyone to do it. The Prime Minister has announced he’s going to clamp down on people abusing Benefits & push them into finding work. Here is a prime example of how there is work needs doing! Tidying gardens too.
