Wonderful hostel. Helpful staff, beautiful old building but with really nice bunk houses in the garden, with its fruit trees, behind the main house. Almost park like. The kitchen was spacious and numerous bathrooms gave you the chance to find you favorite shower, which were clean and the water hot. Parking in front was shaded by the large trees so your car didn't cook. Laid back and enjoyed the interaction with other backpackers. Not to far a walk into town.

I don't usually bother to review places but if you are ever looking for a place to stay in Motueka you can go past the White Elephant. We stayed in a private room with en-suite which is more like a cabin really. Excellent value for money and has all the facilities you need for a night before/after the Abel Tasman, which is what we used it for. Gert was so helpful and always has time for a chat with a smile on his face!

Such a beautiful property located walking distance to town and a close drive to Abel Tasman. Lots of parking out front, clean and well-appointed kitchen, super lovely and helpful staff. For our family we had 2 private rooms that both had en-suites, comfortable beds, mini fridges, cutlery and dish ware, and coffee supplies located in the room. The back garden was large and very comfortable. The common lounge had a pool table, a book exchange, and the Xmas tree was a nice touch! Definitely would stay here again.

I would just recommend adding a shower shelf into the bathrooms so we don’t have to put our soap and shampoo on the ground! Other than that, great.

Excellent location and lovely gardens. Good value for money. This property has recently changed hands and the new owner is upgrading it. The old home is beautiful and has fantastic potential. I just needs some love. The kitchen facilities are great.

Get someone in to clean up the lovely gardens. Get rid of all the vines. Clean up the front by getting rid of the old caravans and motor homes. First impressions are so important. Throw out the lace curtains or cut them off at floor length. Fold back the doonas to show the white pattern which almost matches the curtains. Even those few things would make a huge difference with little money spent. The potential is enormous. It’s a great place.

Really nice hostel, good vibes. Nice areas to relax inside and outside. Staff friendly and helpful. Good clean facilities. Ended up enjoying my time there and booking another night.

The bunk bed didn't have support on one side, so a little extra effort needed to climb up and down. Other than that, everything was good.

Great hostess and fantastic property. Many places to relax outside. We came with a group to celebrate Christmas, we were very welcome and the kitchen had good appliances for us to cook all day. Wish I could have stayed longer. There’s a river that is closer than the beach, great for swimming and you can just grab a hostel bike to get there.

I had a self-contained bedroom with ensuite at the back of the property in the garden and really enjoyed my stay. There was a toaster and electric jug as well, but used the communal kitchen for other cooking. The owner was very welcoming and helpful. The place was quiet and peaceful for my two day stay.

I would have liked to find a spare blanket and heater in the room as it did get very cold, but the owner happily supplied them when I asked.

Gorgeous property, seriously. The gardens look resplendent in the summer sun. I sadly didn't spend much time there, but everything I saw was very inviting. All facilities (inc. laundry) up to par. Didn't use it, but the kitchen looked very well-equipped.

Power points seemed few and far between which made charging devices a bit of a pain. The dorm was spacious and clean, but might have benefited from individual reading lamps? Not a real big issue at all though.

We had a lovely room in the garden with a balcony which was great to have a drink and read. The owner has invested so much time in the facilities and they will only get better. The shared kitchen had everything we needed and there was also a barbecue area. The accommodation was just a short walk from the main street which has plenty of shops/restaurants/cafes. I’d definitely recommend and wish we’d stayed for longer.

Warmly greeted by the very friendly host and little one. Shown round the property, facilities and garden..We choose a cabin with private bathroom and enjoyed relaxing on the verandah.

While we had everything we needed, there were a few maintainence issues eg. curtain rail and toilet roll holder.
