Superior double - slightly dated but with a distinct touch of class. Huge comfortable bed and large bathroom. Did not have dinner but breakfast was excellent with good choice. Friendly staff and good friendly service in the bar. Would stay again.

The breakfast was excellent. The staff were always friendly. We appreciated the lift as my friend can hardly walk up stairs. We got upgraded to a different room which was nice and unexpected.
The internet should have a secured network with a password. During our stay we could not access it which should not happen now days. I know sometimes hotels and accommodation don’t have much of a local knowledge. But reception should have on their books information to help with these requests. In particular, for us, was where was the nearest laundry? Several options turned out to be non existent, or closed. However we found washing facilities at the garage about 150 metres along the road out the front!

An absolute hidden jem Didn't know of Nairn at all and wasn't planned The hotel was suggested by booking.com with a discount The building itself is a manor that looks like from an Agatha Christie book and movie. Before us came an entire tour to the reception. Regardless, Mary, the receptionist, cleared them all out , in minutes, treated me in seconds giving me a great room and was patient with all of my question despite the army of people she had to deal with. The room was awesome, great, clean and home like, the bathroom was even better. We ate at the Charlie Chaplin restaurant, the portions were huuuuuge. I've lived in the uk for the past 6 years and first time the portions were actually enough. The food itself was tasted great. Honestly, how good the food was , it was just a surprise on top of another great surprise. Don't eat at town, the restaurant will blow ur mind. Waitress was kind as well. Breakfast has a nice take to it when waiters ask what u want and bring most of it to the table while u still have a buffet. Another plus, the have 3 Highland cows, which are relatively friendly. Almost didn't see the cows at all in Scotland but they have 3 of them. Also, 7 minutes walk from the beach. Between Mary the receptionist, the dinner, the room and the place. A hidden jem honestly Wowed me away
There is nothing bad to say It's an awesome place Woooooww

We have stayed at the hotel on two previous occasions. This third occasion was different in that we stayed outside the hotel, in a ‘Courtyard’ room which was comfortable, quaint etc, but seemed less like staying at a hotel. The breakfast was excellent, as were the staff.
The’Courtyard’ room was less fancy than the rooms in the hotel. The plates of food for dinner did not always reflect the menu description e.g. a dessert would be described as having chocolate sauce and cream, but would be presented with a small amount of ice-cream and no sauce! The hotel might need to sharpen its attention to detail e.g. cleaning windows, emptying cigarettes from bins at entrance, to maintain its 4-star rating overall.

Muthu Newton Hotel is a beautiful property, really looks like a castle in the Highlands. The staff is very helpful. We stayed in the courtyard rooms, which are in a different building but next door. They were very comfortable and very spacious. They were great to relax after a day exploring the Highlands. We did not use the Breakfast or Dining facilities, cannot comment on that… we had snacks with us for breakfast purposes, however the rooms do not have fridge nor minibars to keep anything refrigerated - luckily for us it was still chilly weather so our food was easy to maintain at a good temperature. The property is not too far from Inverness (25min drive) and easy place to stay to visit sights in the region. We enjoyed our stay in this hotel.
Just keep in mind, if you stay at the courtyard rooms the WiFi will not work - if you are planning a long stay and will require connection to work on plans, then I’d say book a room in the main building or another location.

room was clean and food was good in Chaplin restaurant although over priced. i had the venison which was over cooked for me but would have been fine for others , the plate would have benefited from some vegetables to accompany the mash and meat .Although could have added as an extra side, but feel at the course price should have been included
use the newton often and always enjoy . This visit was no different but have noticed some tiredness creeping to the aesthetics around the hotel. Roofs are badly water stained , some carpets are worn . My room was spotless but again water damage to roof and coating paper hanging from corners lessened the appeal. ( room 104)

A beautiful hotel in a stunning location. We had the 2 bedroom Fraser Suite which was very roomy and very comfortable. Staff were very friendly and helpful Breakfast was plentiful and a good selection of cold and cooked food. Food in the restaurant was lovely The basket of fruit and the bubbles on arrival was a lovely touch
There was no TV in the lounge area but one in each bedroom however there was only 1 remote between them We had to find staff at certain times to get a drink at the bar

Great location. Good base to visit Inverness, Nairn and Brodies Country fare. Highland cattle looking good. 2 weddings over the 2 nights we stayed but didn't disturb us at all. The rest of the hotel was probably quieter than usual. Staff were lovely. Helpful and friendly. Breakfast good, busy but staff coped v well.
Bathroom - grouting needed some attention and wooden strip under bath panel v shabby. Just rather tired but clean and shower worked well. One set of curtains had large holes in middle of curtains - v strange. TV didn't have BbC1or 2 but hotel provided another TV which had these channels! Great service. Dining room was freezing on night 2. We finished dinner in 1.5 hrs and everyone else had come and gone in that time. Menu didn't change in dining room and with no lemon meringue pie v limited dessert choice!

Fantastic location, beautiful old building with history, lovely staff - especially the lady at breakfast Really great that there is level access too e.g.well designed ramp, lifts etc - access is so often overlooked partic5inbhistoric buildings.
Appreciate it is a large, historic building and we had a great deal, but the shower over the bath/taps etc and some other facilities in the hotel (ladies toilet) are very dated. Some of the decor is dated and detracts from the history/architecture of the building and furniture is not functional e.g.tables in dining room for breakfast are impossible to get your legs around.

The Muthu Newton Hotel is just off the A96 Inverness Road with a long driveway to the hotel. It is a relatively short walk from the main town of Nairn if you're fit and able. We were allocated a room in the Courtyard, which is separate from the main building and so not privvy to experience the “hotel life". Our room was very spacious and provided everything we required. Overall, our experience was an enjoyable one and what we had hoped for when booking.
The unusually pulsating shower and sink in the en suite was quite loud, which may have alerted our neighbouring room occupants to our ablution routine, as it did with us when they showered two hours before our morning alarm was due to wake us.
