Absolutely loved! the room that we were first allocated over looking the gardens we had a lovely deep window sill which I spent a lot of time sitting /reading and admiring the view and the amazing sunrises ..the room was very clean and we could not fault it in anyway .the staff were very attentive in the restaurant and could not do enough for you ,also the bar staff constantly running around but always had a smile & time for a friendly chat . We were originally booked for 2 nights a surprise for my husband's birthday.but decided to stay for one more night as we had enjoyed ourselves so much .

Location is brilliant, food was of a good standard and not expensive for this hotel standard, nor were the drinks. Some exceptional staff. Room was comfortable although seating space limited, beds amazing, slept the sleep of the dead !!

More general comments. It’s an unpretentious 4 star hotel so not luxurious. Lots of dogs, no issue at my end, but note. Some unexceptional staff, female restaurant manager has a lot to learn on soft skills.. clearly short of staff -an industry issue allied with minimum wage and employer insurance contribution increases, tables often left uncleared in conservatory and pub. Internet connection issues in room for laptop, phone was fine. Be careful with the Satnav !!

Beautiful hotel set in a stunning location. The building is full of character and old fashioned charm. We only stayed for 1 night but would have liked more time to relax in the lounge and garden area. We had a fantastic view from our room and the restaurant has lovely views across the garden. The breakfast was great, consisting of a continental buffet and a menu of hot food. The real winner however, is the location of this hotel. If you are looking for peace & quiet away from it all, with easy access to the moors, then you can't beat it. You can literally walk out of the front hotel (or through the garden gate at the back) and start your outdoor adventure. There were also ponies just outside of the entrance gate. It really was idyllic.

Not many negative points... the car park was a bit small, but we always managed to park. The floorboards in the room were a bit creaky, but it sort of added to the charm!

Great little room, sensible design and very well equipped. A lovely outlook over the magnificent garden. Quality bedding on a very comfortable bed. Bathroom excellent. Superb breakfast, with lots of choice for both cooked to order and buffet items. Loved watching the house martins as they swept by to their nests under the eaves. Ample parking in various areas. Evening meal was good despite the vegetarian choices being unavailable, with negotiation, chef was able to do an omelette. Easy walk to Haytor.

Check in and out were both tediously slow, mostly due to a lack of staff. Bar service was rather slow.

Fabulous location - the moor was just across the road, with moorland ponies, sheep and lambs grazing within metres of the gate daily (April). Fantastic menu - particularly breakfast - kippers with a poached egg was my favorite - with greek yoghurt with berry coulis and chia, pepitas and prunes. Dinner menu was good - but breakfast was exceptional. Beds excellent. Staff a delight - felt like a local - genuine, warm, funny, engaging. Lounge was premium - very well done. Bar robust and cosy. Plenty of powerpoints for laptops.

Hard to find fault. Perhaps the dinner menu variety. I did enjoy the risotto, maybe there were too many similar things - steak and chips etc. I stayed at The Ness in Shaldon the night before my few days at the Moorland - and I could've stayed for a week working my way through their dinner menu. I'm sorry I'm less good at remembering the specifics.

So lovely! The hotel was decorated so well, it was so cosy, and our room was fantastic! Stunning scenery of the garden right outside our room. Loveliest dog friendly room we’ve ever stayed it, made better by patio doors straight onto the grass area, and a doggy welcome pack! The staff were all so friendly as well. Highly recommend and we’d love to stay there again! (Also the hair dryer in our room was amazing!) We ate in the restaurant on the evening and had breakfast, nice they had a dog friendly area (and a dog menu!) and the food was delicious! Very clean and great facilities.

Our TV was ‘fuzzy’ on a lot of channels, but it’s only a minor dislike!

Despite the hotel being under renovations, which meant we didn't get to take advantage of their Little Lodge restaurant/bar, and there being no other guests, we had a lovely room, and TOP NOTCH, kind, and pleasant service from Jane, the manager. She made all the difference! We were only there one night, as part of a walking trip, but when I come back to the area, I would definitely want to stay again. It's a great location for walking and there's plenty of dining options nearby that are excellent. Also walking distance to the South Devon Railway, which makes it easy to explore around Totnes as well.

We had such a great time staying at The Moorland Hotel. The location is amazing — right in the middle of Dartmoor National Park, with beautiful views and loads of great walks straight from the door. Perfect if you’re looking to get away and enjoy nature. The hotel itself has so much character. The lobby and restaurant have a really cozy, welcoming feel — lots of charm without feeling old-fashioned. It was a lovely spot to relax after a day out exploring. We also really loved the green space around the hotel. The grounds are big and peaceful, great for sitting out with a drink or just taking in the views. Would definitely recommend to anyone looking for a quiet break in a beautiful setting.

This is a wonderful establishment in a wonderful setting on the southern edge of the moor. We liked the comfort, the location, the excellent food and service. You can walk straight out onto Hay Tor and/or further or you can get in your car, if you have one and get to the coast easily. The rooms are very comfortable, the place is quiet, there are lovely gardens and the staff are excellent as nothing too much trouble. The veggie breakfast I had, was perhaps the best I have every tasted at a hotel. Do try the restaurant also however - a bit more pricey than a local pub meal but very much a step-up (local pub meals being good also). Can't wait to come back.

The towel hook on the back of the bathroom door fell off. The door was made of some sort of chipboard, so there was no purchase to be had there- surprised it lasted at all. Note to handy-person- put up the towel hooks on the wall - where you can secure screw fittings with rawlplug.

The location of the hotel is excellent for walks on Dartmoor and right next to the visitor centre. Lovely gardens and plenty of space to sit and chill with a cup of tea or drink The conservatory overlooked the lovely gardens and so was a special place to eat. The food was excellent The rooms had everything needed including dressing gowns and slippers plus a coffee machine which was a big bonus# The staff were friendly and helpful with requests

I could not contact the hotel out of hours - just a recorded message saying they were busy. I needed to check that I had a room near a lift due to mobility problems and could not check this out and so had to cancel the booking and rebook which caused its own problems with booking.com The hotel advertisement said that all bedrooms overlooked the gardens but we were placed in a room overlooking the car park. When we said this at reception they did offer us the use of another room accessible by lift and overlooking the gardens but I can't understand why we were not given this in the first place.
