Very clean and comfortable. Rooms had everything we needed. Very quiet and tranquil area, right next door to Buckfast Abbey. Disabled room was spacious and the wet-room well equipped. The local area was too hilly for the wheelchair, however, the hotel was very wheelchair friendly and a good base. Staff were very accommodating, nothing was too much trouble. Food was excellent, always hot and served quickly! Special mention to the lady running the restaurant, she was very helpful, thank you.

My only issue was there could have been more variety of evening meals, or have two set menus and change midweek. But apart from that 👍🏼

Everything at Northgate House was amazingly clean, tidy and spacious. We were greeted at reception by Chloe who was extremely friendly and welcoming. She gave us all the information we needed and any further advice could be requested. There was a lift to our room which had a pleasant enough view, in a very quiet area. We had a wander around the gardens of Buckfast Abbey as Northgate House is in it's grounds. It is stunning. We were able to visit the abbey the next morning while the organist was practising. Incredible!! Downstairs in the dining area, breakfast was continental but there was so much choice! Hot and cold drinks, fruit, ham, cheese, yoghurt and cereal, toast, the list just goes on!! We didn't need to upgrade to a cooked meal as we would not have been able to move. Thank you. What a wonderful location!!

Everything was wonderful!!

The room was large, nicely decorated and had everything you need, including hooks to hang wet coats. A lovely walk-in shower which was powerful and warmed up straightaway. The room was nice and warm too. The reception staff were really helpful with local knowledge and bar staff friendly and courteous. We ate evening snacks/starters in the bar area as it was cosy and comfortable. Nothing was too much trouble for staff.

The tv channels were all over the place and some didn't have any volume. However, I only had it on for breakfast news and managed to find a station. We didn't use the dining room as it was a bit soleless. I expect it's used for conferences. It could do with some sort of partitions to make it feel cosier.

I've stayed here several times before. The location is ideal for a quiet weekend at the Abbey, or a peaceful spot within easy reach of local attractions, if you have a car. The rooms are comfortable, and the staff always lovely.

Not exactly a dislike: if you have stayed before, but not for a while, don't expect the extensive breakfast buffet. Hot dishes are now to order, which means they are freshly cooked, which is good, but must be ordered from a set menu of 5 items - no more help yourself beans on toast. If you book the breakfast included package, only continental breakfast is included, so if you like a cooked breakfast it's better to just book for the room and pay for what you want on the day.

The staff were helpful and kind! I was planning my partner’s birthday, and they were on board with everything, accommodating, and helped me arrange things. The food in the restaurant was fantastic too, and the portions were very generous. Also, the area was really quiet and peaceful. We were there during the Summer Festival, and it was a great piece of entertainment.

It was difficult to find a place to eat. There are not so many restaurants or grocery shops around, and the existing ones don’t work all day long, so if you’re up for a 5 o’clock tea with a shack - you will probably not find any in the proximity.

Well appointed rooms with excellent wardrobe/drawer space & en suite bathroom. All the staff went the extra mile to give us everything we needed. The building was light & airy with a tranquil atmosphere & convenient free parking. We had ground floor rooms (with supern walk-in showers) which were so helpful for those with limited mobility. The close proximity to the Abbey with its beautiful gardens made this a perfect location. We had a B&B rate which was exceptional value. The continental breakfast offered a great choice of cereal, fruits, cold meats, cheeses, pastries & toast. It's position just off the A38 was great for the places we wanted to visit. We'd like to thank all the staff for their excellent service.

Would have liked an additional shelf for toilet bags in the bathroom.

The food was locally sourced and well presented. The continental breakfast had plenty of choices, the cooked breakfast was plenty big enough and the eggs benedict would have been perfect if one of the poached eggs had been cooked properly. The evening menu is minimal, which I like and the dishes we chose were all beautiful, must mention the rump steak which was superbly cooked and was more like a fillet steak. The best rump steak I have ever had. The room was spacious enough & had a fan in the wardrobe for hot nights, the en suite was very clean with a lovely walk in shower

There is nothing to dislike

The hotel is situated in a stunning historical location, with the Abbey boasting over a thousand years of history. Despite its ancient surroundings, the hotel offers modern services and comforts of the 21st century. There is ample car parking available, including electric charging stations. The reception staff provided a warm and inviting greeting, and the online check-in process made our arrival seamless. Our room, number 117, had a balcony with a spectacular view of the Abbey. The bed was extremely comfortable, and the shower was perfect for soothing aching muscles. Breakfast was plentiful and served buffet-style, allowing guests to help themselves. Dinner catered to all tastes, and the young man serving ensured everything was perfect. A particularly memorable experience was visiting the Abbey at 6 pm on a dark November night. We had the unique opportunity to listen to the organist practicing for an upcoming concert, with only the two of us in the audience. It was a deeply moving experience, evoking the Abbey's thousand years of Evening Song.

We had a ground floor small double room near reception and it was very clean and comfortable. The surroundings of the hotel and Abbey are extremely pleasant and ideal if you are looking for a relaxing stay in a tranquil environment. Parking was easy and within easy access of the hotel's reception. We had an evening meal in the hotel's restaurant which was quite nice even though there was not a huge amount of choice on the menu.

We would have liked a bit more choice in the evening meal menu. The temperature in the room was a little high at times but being on the ground floor it was not safe to leave windows open.

Fantastic location very close to Dartmoor, perfect for hiking and exploring the area. Breakfast was simple but of very good quality, even without continental style. Bread, yogurt, fruits and more provided a satisfying start. Being able to eat breakfast on the terrace made for a lovely morning experience. There's a charming church nearby, perfect for a nice short walk in the area.

I wasn't aware beforehand that this was a Christian-oriented accommodation, so as a non-Christian I felt slightly awkward and apologetic, especially noticing the presence of crosses and Bibles around the room. As it's located somewhat away from the town, finding dinner options proved a bit challenging. We had to walk to a nearby pub.
