The room was large, nicely decorated and had everything you need, including hooks to hang wet coats. A lovely walk-in shower which was powerful and warmed up straightaway. The room was nice and warm too. The reception staff were really helpful with local knowledge and bar staff friendly and courteous. We ate evening snacks/starters in the bar area as it was cosy and comfortable. Nothing was too much trouble for staff.

The tv channels were all over the place and some didn't have any volume. However, I only had it on for breakfast news and managed to find a station. We didn't use the dining room as it was a bit soleless. I expect it's used for conferences. It could do with some sort of partitions to make it feel cosier.

I've stayed here several times before. The location is ideal for a quiet weekend at the Abbey, or a peaceful spot within easy reach of local attractions, if you have a car. The rooms are comfortable, and the staff always lovely.

Not exactly a dislike: if you have stayed before, but not for a while, don't expect the extensive breakfast buffet. Hot dishes are now to order, which means they are freshly cooked, which is good, but must be ordered from a set menu of 5 items - no more help yourself beans on toast. If you book the breakfast included package, only continental breakfast is included, so if you like a cooked breakfast it's better to just book for the room and pay for what you want on the day.

The hotel is situated in a stunning historical location, with the Abbey boasting over a thousand years of history. Despite its ancient surroundings, the hotel offers modern services and comforts of the 21st century. There is ample car parking available, including electric charging stations. The reception staff provided a warm and inviting greeting, and the online check-in process made our arrival seamless. Our room, number 117, had a balcony with a spectacular view of the Abbey. The bed was extremely comfortable, and the shower was perfect for soothing aching muscles. Breakfast was plentiful and served buffet-style, allowing guests to help themselves. Dinner catered to all tastes, and the young man serving ensured everything was perfect. A particularly memorable experience was visiting the Abbey at 6 pm on a dark November night. We had the unique opportunity to listen to the organist practicing for an upcoming concert, with only the two of us in the audience. It was a deeply moving experience, evoking the Abbey's thousand years of Evening Song.

Spacious rooms with comfort & quiet with friendly staff & always with a fresh clean impression, generous choices at lovely breakfasts & these comments are applicable to multiple visits we have made in the last 24 months so consistency is also being maintained so we cannot fault the place as a base for the Dartmoor area and whole heartedly love & will revisit soon

This is not a dislike more a proportional comment. Evening meals are priced in a ratio to their undoubted quality & when we last tried were delicious but if you are being thrifty & frugal & trying to stay within a budget & grab a bargain stay you especially will adore the breakfast included priced rooms. & If you are happy to pay for top quality evening meals then you too will have no regrets

Lovely location, staff were friendly and helpful. The restaurant was fantastic and very accommodating of some awkward dietary requirements. Lovely room. All clean throughout. The bar was a lovely cosy spot to enjoy a drink after dinner.

I appreciate this is a topic of personal preference, but the bed was not comfortable at all for me. The first night was awful, but on the second night, I chose to sleep on top of the duvet as the mattress was too hard. Luckily, there was a nice cosy blanket, so it wasn't cold. The problem was solved, and I slept much better with no aching back the next day.

Having been here many times before , the hotel was as always , very clean and well maintained, good food , comfortable rooms and very peaceful

We booked bed and breakfast, but were informed after booking that this would only include continental breakfast (now costing £10.95) any cooked would be extra ( £12 for full English ) which would then cost £22.95!!!!! as the cooked breakfast does not include coffee, juice, toast etc so you would need to purchase both , I’m sure anyone would think thud is a very expensive breakfast. We visit lots of hotels in Devon and would not be expected to pay anywhere near this . Also it is a 4.00 check in , where as other hotels we visit have a 2.00 check in . As much as we love this hotel , I think in the future these two reasons might stop us coming back

The hotel & the room was spotless. We had a superior room with a veranda/balcony that lead to the rooftop terrace above the dining room which was a little different but a very nice surprise with a beautiful view of Buckfast Abbey. The room was very spacious with nice furniture that was more than adequate. The extra large bed was very comfortable too. But the nicest thing for us was the peace & quite. It was one of the quiest hotels/rooms that we have ever stayed in. The restaurant was very nice with an excellent breakfast. Good variety on the evening menu too. The shower was wonderful, loads of good pressure hot water & a very large walk-in, low profile shower tray & large heated towel rail. The bathroom was spotless. The staff all round were wonderful.

Just a couple of minor niggles were that the room was very dark, even with all the lights switched on & there was no control of the heating. Neither of which would be relevant in the summer but at the moment in November it would have been nice to have the room a little warmer & brighter. It would not prevent us staying here again though, or recommending Northgate House to anyone else.

The one thing you learn from travelling is that no matter how good the accommodation looks on line you can never be sure until you are there. I had fairly high expectations but Northgate House exceeded these expectations in every area. On arrival and throughout our stay every member of staff was friendly, professional and helpful. The room was spacious, fitted out to a high standard and the beds were lovely and comfortable. The shower room too was everything you could wish for with powerful hot water, spotlessly clean fittings and soft towels. The breakfast buffet was excellent in variety, presentation and flavour. The evening meal menu offered a good range of options and the chef produced delicious and attractive dishes.

Our room was beautiful, balcony with view of the Abbey, very comfortable bed. Bath and shower. Lovely drinks box with biscuits in room. My father had an accessible room with a wonderful bathroom. the best accessible room we have ever stayed in. Breakfast was amazing, everything freshly cooked and regularly topped up and beautifully cooked. Loved the breakfast room. Someone always on hand at reception or at bar to answer any queries. Staff extremely helpful over the phone on booking and at all times during the stay and we're very kind to my father. Grounds beautiful and you can walk over to the Abbey. Simply a stunning and quiet location and we can't wait to go back! Lots of great places to visit nearby: steam railway, otter sanctuary and butterfly world all 10 mins away and some great pubs too. Dartmouth only 30 mins away.

we had room 115 massive bathroom bath and shower huge balcony spotless room with all you could need no noise super quiet room plenty space to hang cloths and plenty drawer space cant fault room at all. Extra thanks to Beckie who went the extra mile to help us with a lost item when we had arrived home.

so bit reluctant to mention this as every thing was so perfect for our stay but my wife had scrambled eggs for breakfast and even the lady who brought the scrambled eggs to the table apologised, they were so pale no egg colour at all such a shame as everything else was good. Reception said they were going to investigate there supplier as not there usual standard.
