Bovey Castle is an amazing venue in beautiful location and has amazing services...however for the price and 5* hotel we experienced some downsides we wouldn't expect ..for example I booked surprise for my girlfriend and when we arrived it wasn't prepared and I had to ask for it which took away moment of surprise. Also, we were given different vine that we purchased.... So everyone is nice and the place is great but when you pay this price you would expect fewer mistakes. But we would still come back as these small errors can be corrected, so we are just providing the feedback so this can be improved 👍🏽

The rude behaviour of some of the staff at the restaurant ( dinner ) One staff member threw the plates onto the table in an aggressive and unprofessional way. This is totally unacceptable. The lady was the only friendly and professional member. The choices on the menu were not according to a 5 * hotel ( pizzas, burgers, Ceasar salad…..) The worst breakfast ever experienced for such a hotel category ( at 1010, a lot of items were already missing ( no croissant, no pain au chocolat….) On top, the staff was unfriendly. Our stay was a real disappointment……

It's a beautiful period building. You receive a hospitable welcome from the staff. Quick check-in process. Activities desk with all the information available to book things to do for the duration of the stay. We received special attention for the big occasion we were celebrating but this is likely normal that they excel in their service to provide a memorable client experience. Attentive bar staff, all the staff were accommodating and genuinely friendly. Nicely decorated, comfortable communal spaces. Bedrooms were very well presented and warm, March still dark and cold in.the Moors but the weekend weather was unexpectedly fabulous and there was plenty of sunshine to enjoy. Great spa treatments, recommend booking early to avoid missing out. Quality of food and wine, superb. Accessibility around the castle, is not great, plenty of stairs and tight capacity in lifts. Easy enough to get lost, needs clear signage but this seems to be the preference. Enough to do for an extended stay. Would be lovely to return in the Summer, and make use of those grounds. The entire experience was absolutely delightful. The hotel staff went above and beyond, exuding warmth and kindness at every turn. Amy at the reception was incredibly accommodating, while Alisa and Charlet expertly handled all our bookings, from arranging activities to making dining reservations. The restaurant staff were truly outstanding; they displayed remarkable patience and kindness in helping young children with their meal selections. Without a doubt, this hotel ranks among the finest we have ever had the pleasure of visiting.

We liked everything

Ammenities were awesome; pool, steam room, food, tennis, chooks, car parking, walking paths and room. Very clean, helpful staff, excellent activities offered on site. Excellent wifi. Very relaxing stay. Super comfortable room. Quiet and spacious. Car parking was on site. Stunning grounds. Beautiful views. Impressed by the driving instructions on the website to prevent visitors from following car sat navigation and getting lost. This was a life saver for us, as international drivers. I’m happy Bovey Castle had an awareness about the issues with car sat navigation systems and supported visitors arriving safely with clearly instructions. I wish more accomodation gave driving instructions and found this was an another excellent customer care. The hot chocolate in the room was outstanding.

Liked everything about our stay.

Loved the stunning views and the castle itself was amazing inside as well as out. The room was lovely super clean with lots of nice touches including the perfect turn down service. Lots of great places to walk around the hotel as well through the grounds. The complementary falconry experience was great which we really enjoyed as well as the ferret and chicken feeding. Tia was very helpful on reception helping all of our questions and being very friendly and so was the very friendly lady that did our check out too. Very big bed which was comfy and the shower and bath were great. The swimming pool is lovely and being adults only after 5pm is definitely an added bonus!

Breakfast was far too overpriced for what it was a very small portion for an English breakfast, and the staff could be dismissive at breakfast we waited a while to be seen once seated even though others who were seated after us would be seen right away. I think a manager we asked about seeing the deer on a walk was very dismissive saying we had to pay to see them and that was the only way which made it feel like they wanted more and more money even though it's a very expensive stay. We did end up seeing the deer on a walk no thanks to her. Also a broken window latch in our room.

Lovely setting and excellent staff who were very attentive. The lodge was clean and well equipped. The meal service was a great idea and arrived promptly. The food was very good. The facilities were excellent and it was a safe environment to stay with a small child. Will definitely be back.

The boiler in the bathroom on the top floor of the lodge was noisy and disturbed the peace and quiet overnight that we were expecting to enjoy from the location. Probably wouldn’t affect most people but it created an unnecessary annoyance for those with sensitive hearing. There could also be a little more choice of meals that could be delivered to the lodge - it was a shame that most required a minimum of 4 people to share rather than be available as individual meals.

Our room was superb from the divine decor to the classy finishing touches in the bathroom!!!! We just adored our room. We had a lovely dinner in the Brasserie on 3 evenings and whilst the food was good, would like to make special mention of the waitstaff, especially Corey who became our favourite waiter. So professional but in a casual way and always made sure we had everything we needed and to our liking. The lounge areas, the views, the decor, the helpful staff, everything about Bovey Castle is just so so special!

I think the ambience of Smith's Brasserie could be in more keeping with the rest of the aesthetic of the Castle but that is just nitpicking...

An impressive building set in a stunning location, exuding grandeur throughout. The hotel offers breathtaking views over the golf course and the rolling hills of Dartmoor. Our room, which overlooked the valley, was both clean and comfortable, with thoughtful touches like complimentary jelly beans, popcorn, and gin. It’s truly a beautiful place to stay.

Breakfast was underwhelming and, surprisingly, not included in the room price (it should have been, given the cost). Additionally, most activities were unavailable during our stay, which was somewhat disappointing.

Beautiful property and grounds although some parts (NOT golf greens) were not accessible to hotel residents e.g. small bridges over the river.

1.) Some areas not accessible to hotel residents only golfers - see above. 2.) 12.5% service charge - even on drinks/ tea/coffee. 3.) £10 daily general service charge - no obvious reason for this extra charge.
