We received a lovely warm welcome from Karen at reception and really friendly service from Belle. In fact every member of staff was helpful and polite. Before our stay we contacted Jackie online and received excellent service there too. The breakfast was another big positive, with a huge range of items, both cooked and continental, available including attractive vegetarian options. Even the problem of having a broken shower was nicely dealt with (by being given an additional key to an adjacent vacant room to use the facilities there). All in all, the Darrington offers extremely good service and value.

Other than the issue with the shower (which was handled very well) I did find the bathroom a bit cramped, especially the space around the sink which was barely shoulder width. But it didn't detract too much from an otherwise positive experience.

Everything was there. I'd had a long journey so didn't want to go hunting for places to eat etc. My room was contained in a corridor of 6 rooms so no real noise nuisance from other room users (apart from a late night three-some having a long conversation outside my door - some signs telling people to be quiet in the corridor after 10pm might be useful). What REALLy made this stay were the wonderful staff - in particular, Belle who helped me with all manner of queries after my phone decided to play up. She printed off detailed routes, always came back to me with whatever I'd asked for, a real bonus for the hotel owners. Also Carl (I think - blonde) who was the most friendly, personable member of staff ever and despite being rushed off his feet on BH weekend, managed to deliver with a cheery attitude. Greene King - hang on to these staff members - I stay in a lot of hotels/lodges etc and I consider myself qualified to make these comments

Not the fault of staff but two warm evenings and the windows were open so the smoke from designated outside smoking area did filter in to the raised eating area . I would have sat elsewhere had I realised but it was a small table suitable for a solo traveller, hence my choice..

The location was perfect as a stop on the way to Aberdeenshire, just a stone's throw from the A1M. Staff were really friendly and helpful. The room was large, spotlessly clean and very comfortable. We had an excellent night's sleep. We had dinner in the restaurant. Service was quick, the good was hot and good. We also loved the music quiz, which was free to enter. We won a voucher which oaud for desserts for the 4 of us. Breakfast the next morning was fresh and plentiful and set us up for the long drive ahead. Would happily stay here again.

This busy hotel is a very good value proposition for an overnight stay, in an exceptional location right next to the A1. It has a huge car park, so getting there is entirely stress-free after a long drive. Pontefract, with its castle, is very close. A friendly welcome from reception staff. Our room was very comfortable and the bathroom well-appointed. Dinner was from a basic pub food menu, served in the extensive bar. This is a lively and busy space, but divided into smaller areas giving a more cozy atmosphere. Breakfast was good. Overall, the food offer was pretty good at the low cost.

The door to our room was sticking and needed a hefty pull to open from the inside. There was a slight musty smell in corridor and room. The bathroom fan made quite a racket. Some of the furnishings in the bar were a little tired.

Everything was fine. However, on previous occasions we've stayed in much bigger rooms. Last time and this time given a small room on the ground floor when staying for 2+ nights between a wife and husband. The location great, the bar/food great, staff were perfect though!

The room wasn't what we've experienced before in previous stays. There was no way to upgrade because we would have done at extra cost. Also we paid for breakfast....on the table at dinner, there were menus offering some really nice things (at the same cost as a normal breakfast). We were looking forward to it but were given a menu that was completely different. We almost left completely everything because it wasn't nice. We didn't even bother the 2nd morning. Then realising because both my wife and I are HM Forces we'd have got 20% off without looking. Will book straight from the hotel from now on.

Tbh Geen King as been brilliant. Alot better than yourselves at refunding me my money back for the apartment I booked which I am struggling to get my money back after having daily phone calls with ur self's if it wasn't for the darrington hotel I'd be with no where to stay . 1 thing for sure I shall never book through booking.com ever again..you let me enter that apartment and pay then have to go pay again at darrington and you won't refund me my money absolutely disgusting should be ashamed of yourself...... and yeah dare is good thankyou

I don't like the fact that yous owe me money for previous accompanying I booked what was absolutely disgusting pubic hair on toilet seat food allover floor fridge freezer leaking water absolutely stunk that's what I don't like so then I have to pay again and book in to date which is lovely..... but still chasing my lonely back from yourselves as uour refusing to give me

Location is good, just off the motorway, so good for a stopover. The pub / restaurant attached is fantastic, and is the main reason we returned here after staying last year. There's a feeling of a real community pub, created by the wonderful staff, the activities they put on and what seems to be real engagement by the locals. Lovely atmosphere, friendly staff and good food add up to a really nice stay.

The room was ok, but both the room and the bathroom could do with a wee freshen up/ upgrade.

Molly on reception was so welcoming despite the late hour of booking and check in. Room decor was nice

I didn’t have breakfast in the pub. The location good near local shopping outlets and places to visit and eat. Nice en-suite room. Everything we needed, towels, shampoo/body wash, hand wash. Tea and coffee. Free Wi-Fi. Clean. Pub quiz in pub attached to the hotel, good fun. Would book again, this was my 2nd visit. Not sure of bus transport as had a car, plenty of parking. 11am check out.

There are no lifts so if you have a disability please be aware of this. I think it does mention this on their website.

The staff were amazing! So welcoming. The moment we walked in the door we were treated like long lost friends. The restaurant staff were great too. Food was lovely. The pool table kept our teens engaged while we waited for dinner. The gluten free menu was very welcome too for our coeliac son. The hotel was off the highway but we didn’t hear a thing. The rooms were comfortable and clean. Nice and close to York also.
