Can't fault the place & the view from my little private courtyard of the field and cows was lovely. So modern and clean & comfortable. I loved the fact I could keep my takeaway food in kitchen fridge and heat it up when needed. Facilities even for cooking a real bonus esp eggs in the morning. The spread for our breakfast was amazing and I made scrambled eggs. A change from ham & hard boiled eggs in Europe😋 Ian was really helpful too. Thanks.
The guest next door kept banging the entry door going in & out often or his own door? till quite late .he was a smoker. I found it hard to get to sleep with the door banging. Soft closures would be an idea?

Only had an overnight stay on our way north, but what a lovely guesthouse! Well-situated in a small village with nearby pub for evening meal. Fresh, clean, and comfortable large rooms, with great bathroom, sofa, tea/coffee facilities, and fan provided. Secure off-road parking in private gated courtyard. Flexible, self-service continental breakfast. Iain has thought of everything and such excellent value - thank you so much!
Nothing - highly recommend!

My second stay at Fir Tree Barn and would not hesitate to return - in fact it will be top of my list. Iain was welcoming, friendly and professional and we were shown to our rooms and everything was explained so well. The facilities were spotless and well maintained and the rooms had everything we needed. It was helpful to know that Iain was happy for us to text if we needed anything - this was great to hear after a 4hr journey from London! The bed was so comfortable and spare pillows in the wardrobe too, plus the room was nice and warm. The provisions for breakfast were brilliant - ample options for every taste and healthy options too including fresh eggs and fruit, and a brilliant selection of hot drinks. A really good stay and hope it's a longer one next time.

Absolutely spot on, exceptional value. Spacious rooms, ample secure parking, lovely large patio area, it's like home away from home, it's been warm and inviting, very comfortable and relaxed. Bed is very comfortable with good quality bedding etc. The host is friendly and inviting. Close enough to have most things you're going to want a short walk/drive away. Had a brilliant experience, would definitely recommend and definitely be visiting again. It's got everything you could want for the day/night. Thank you Iain.

The room was comfortable, clean with modern facilities. Iain was a perfect host, keeping us informed of some power issues due to an unexpected summer storm, and helping us pick somewhere for Sunday lunch. Very secure with onsite gated access parking. Breakfast was self service which as we wanted to eat later suited us perfectly. Big selection of cereals, fruit, pastries etc. with cooking facilities if you wanted to be more adventurous. Spacious dining kitchen area for breakfast, with a guest fridge and storage for your own food if you needed it. Perfect for our short break, and very relaxed.
There was nothing, it was perfect for us.

Iain the owner very hospitable and couldn't do enough for you. Breakfast being self service was ideal and really good continental choice (basically everything you need) even hard boiled eggs in fridge. Room very good. In summary if I had stayed in York I could have paid over £100 more for accommodation that wouldn't be as nice without breakfast. Very much recommend.
Not a dislike on hotel but if looking for evening food and booking King's Head in village, check that they are doing food. I thought I booked a table against a set time but didn't get confirmation or refusal however got there and no food. That said, pub very friendly and there was Greek food van outside and pub were happy for you to buy and eat at their establishment

All of it! The room was superb, the host was friendly and informative, the bed was the most comfortable one I've slept in, the shower room was lovely (we were in the disabled access room), the facilities were excellent and there was even an outside seating area. The self serve continental breakfast lacked nothing, there was so much choice and we thoroughly enjoyed it. We'll definitely be going back, already told all our friends about it. 😊😊😊
Could not find anything we didn't like (besides our stay not being longer) 👍😊

I stayed at Fir Tree Barn with my partner and parents. Both rooms were clean and tidy, the beds were comfortable and the the breakfast exceeded our expectations. It's self catering but there was a lot of food available and variety, good for different tastes and/or food restrictions. My room had a balcony and it was very pleasant to be outside relaxing in the end of the day. The house is located on a incredibly quiet place and it's perfect to switch off - but at the same time is very close to a small village with take aways, supermarket and pubs (5 minutes) and it's 15 minutes away from a bigger town.
They didn't leave any toilet paper in our toiletry basket and we just had a little bit of one roll left in the bathroom. As my parents were in the room next to mine I grabbed one from them but it would have been tricky if it finished late at night.

Fabulous place to stay, shame it was only one night. It is so well organised: self service continental breakfast. There is also a fridge and freezer for guests to use, plus cooking facilities. We had a private terrace with tables, bench, chairs to sit with a glass of wine and watch the cows in the field behind. Private gated parking was reassuring, we have a Volvo estate car and had no problem parking, easily enough space for us.
Nothing to dislike!
