The hotel is in a stunning setting in the middle of the vineyards. The pool was cold (of course) but a lovely place to hang out and very much needed. The main hotel building is beautiful inside and out. Breakfast was nice. The dinner at the restaurant was good and the waiting staff were lovely too - although pretty chaotic despite there being a lot of them.

We had a family room which was nice enough but a bit of a walk to the main house and had a little bit less character. The room was very cool which was lovely in the scorching weather we had but not sure how it would be in winter. Be prepared for a long walk to the restaurant (600m to the main house, 700m to the family rooms).

The hotel is located in a beautiful wine estate. The place has a vintage feel. The staff are helpful, the amenities are good. It is also easy to reach by car and once inside, there are clear directions to find the different buildings. The breakfast offered was fresh and tasty. They even started early for us since we had to catch a flight. The restaurant is near Michelin level quality and service. The wines on offer were fantastic. The wine info and tasting tour in their winery was also very good. Overall, the price for the quality offered for everything at the hotel is great. Very much recommended!

The reception, restaurant and rooms all are a good 5-10 min walk away from each other. The restaurant while excellent is fine dining with limited food options. So you might not go there more than once in your stay. And the region is full of wine estates so there are not many restaurants in the vicinity, and those that are there offer similar type of food. It's better to sort out dinner plans in advance for each day of stay. The wine tasting has no non-alcoholic drinks for kids.

We never wanted to leave! After a day of wine tasting, we drove onto the property and were immediately blown away. Beautiful place in the middle of the vineyards. Staff were so helpful! They arranged dinner for us that evening and showed us to our room a few steps away from the main building. Breakfast was yummy. Pool was delightful. You could help yourself to beverages from the fridge near the kitchen and just leave a note about what you took. Chatted with the other guests and felt like we could have all just hung out there for days.

Loved everything!

The hotel is very beautiful, in the style of an old hacienda house, in the middle of vinyard fields. The room was very spacious and comfortable, with a balcony overlooking the vinyards. The hotel is part of a wine/port production (Quinta del Portal) and the cellars can be visited nearby.

The restaurant was really good, but is located 600 meters from the main house so you need to walk quite a bit. The swimming pool is unheated and the water was very cold, even though it was hot outside. The hotel is rather isolated, you need a car to go anywhere interesting.

Very beautiful place. We loved walking around the vines. The room was good, beds comfortable. Acceptable breakfast and the restaurant and service there were very nice.

The only problem is there isn't any way to get food at the hotel after breakfast hours, and it is not walking distance from anywhere else except for the fancy restaurant. We were lucky that the receptionist was kind and let us take some leftovers from breakfast, when we didn't feel so well after all the wine tastings.

We went during off peak season, and they kindly offered to upgrade our one family room to two smaller rooms! It’s a simple, beautiful, and peaceful place to stay. The included breakfast was delicious! Value of the booking (breakfast, wine tour, stay) was great for the price.

The heat in the rooms wasn’t the most powerful for the chilly nights we were there, but was adequate. We also had a bit of trouble figuring out where to park at the restaurant for dinner, especially because it was so dark at night, but everything worked out, and we ultimately had one of our favorite dinners of the trip there!

We were notified by the hotel a few days before we arrived that it was under renovation and that our booking had been transferred to the Vintage House Hotel in Pinhao. We were given a Junior Suite which was lovely with views of the Douro River. Quinta do Portal was still open and we were able to drive there for our wine / port tour, which was excellent.

Unfortunately missed the opportunity to stay at Casa das Pipas.

The peace and serenity of staying in a working vineyard at the end of the season. Walks in the beautiful vineyard. The hotel restaurant served superb food with wonderful service. They were particularly attentive to my wife's needs for gluten-free dishes.

Guests should be aware that there is a 200-meter walk from the hotel to the restaurant, where parking is limited.

EVERYTHING! The property was beautiful, relaxing, and quiet. The pool was large and refreshing on a hot day. The location was great, The room had everything you need, and the on-site wine tour was phenomenal. We also had dinner at the restaurant and it was so delicious plus the view from the restaurant was beautiful. The service was top-notch! I sat in the lobby one evening and someone handed me a glass of port wine for free and without asking, truly catering to my every need! The breakfast was great (sat out on the patio each morning in the sun) and the front desk booked everything we wanted (boat tour, wine tour, dinner in town, taxi transportation). They handled our every need and we barely had to do any of the planning. Thank you to the Casa de Pipas for a relaxing stay!

Zero regrets staying here. I liked everything!

Beautiful setting surrounded by vinyards. We had a family room in a separate building a couple of hundred yards from the hotel, so a short stroll for a very nice breakfast in the morning. Dinner is either a taxi ride to Pinhao/Sabrosa, or there is a restaurant at the end of the drive... no menu, which was a bit disconcerting, but the food was really top quality. Really liked the honesty bar near the pool, which was a great place to sit with a glass or two of the local wine. We were on a walking holiday, and the walks in the local area around Sabrosa, Alijo and Pinhoa are absolutely stunning. Daniel was effectively acting as host and he was brilliant.
