January 2025

We are walking around England and had booked to stay at this pub just after New Year in January 2025. It was a freezing day that we walked to Portreath and we took the inland route via Tehidy Country Park and down into the valley to find the pub. It's a pleasant Victorian building and our very large room had two windows, one of which must have faced the sea before the houses were built around the old port in the last 50 years. The room was really spacious, high ceilinged, with lovely original panelling on one wall, and a large modern bathroom. The heating was amazing, almost too warm on a freezing day, and soundproofing excellent, despite being above the bar. We ate in the pub on both nights and had lunch another day, all excellent. Staff were incredibly friendly and helpful and like most pubs in Cornwall, the bar was friendly and welcomingl. The town isn't pretty but has an impressive and slightly wild feeling beach. We'll aim to stay here again.

We loved it.

All the staff were so helpful and thoughtful. The breakfasts were delicious and always nice and hot. Our room was kept clean with all clean towels and bed changes. When our family came to see us there were board games snooker and the hook game which kept us all amused for hours, I cannot fault our stay , A big thank you to everyone at Portreath Arms, can't wait to visit again

There was nothing to dislike

This place was one of many we stayed at during our trip in Cornwall, but for sure - was the best one! The human factor - was a game changer. I was unfortunate my car window was stuck inside the rear door in open position in a rainy day after the hike, I covered it temporarily using a plastic bag but I was fortunate I booked this amazing hotel. Martin is a Legend! I can't express how grateful I am, he found a proper cover for the whole car, agreed with a manager to leave the car for a night in a facility next to the hotel for safety and my peace of mind, he was patiently waiting in the rain while I was unloading the luggage and covered the call with proper protection attached to the rims from any rain/wind. Martin, thank you sooo much! That means a lot and you made more then anyone would expect. 100+ stars to you mate. Big thanks! Room was great and not to forget about the best breakfast I had in my life. Cornish breakfast was amasing! To sum up - my expectations exceeded, becouse of the people like Martin!

The space was welcoming, had lovely decor and the staff were friendly and helpful. Lots of small things made all the difference: real milk and cooled water in a fridge, a lovely selection of hot drinks in the room with quality biscuits, the offer of other items if needed, eg beach towels/slippers. The food was excellent, both evening meal and breakfast. So happy to find fresh fruit and chia/linseeds at breakfast.

This was are final stop for the week after walking SouthWest Coast path. Although they were very busy we had a warm welcome and shown to our room. The room as perfect for our needs, with all the normal facilities. We ate supper at the pub which was convenient and delicious. Breakfast was from 7.30am which is ideal if we had been walking the next stage. In fact we have booked to stay when are doing our next SW path trip.

arrived from the coast path soaking wet and were greeted by very helpful staff who provided trays for us to deposit wet clothing and gear into which was rapidly whisked off to the drying room (brilliant for a happy departure the following day). Room was as described, very warm...the pub and restaurant were busy all evening, lovely to see it full of local people. Great quality food and the staff were attentive and fun. Lots to choose from at breakfast. Would highly recommend if you are doing the SW coast path or just want to stay in Portreath.

The location was excellent, the room was clean and the staff very friendly and welcoming. The food was good both at dinner and breakfast We really liked the communal fridge and were glad of the chilled water - we visited in during hot weather

It was noisy - but we knew before we went that it was a pub and we’d be there over a Friday night so not really an issue

On the way up to the room there was a little station which had a fridge with bottles of water and milk for free, slippers plus a list of all the extra items you may need but may have forgotton. Room was well stocked, clean and very comfortable. We ate in the restaurant for dinner - which was excellent. Probably some of the best desserts we'd tasted. Breakfast was also very good. Staff were all super friendly.

Great central location and lovely well equipped rooms. Lovely toiletries (in refillable bottles) and a flask of fresh milk for the tea/coffee tray. My son and I were travelling with our dog and she could not have been made more welcome. My room was supplied with a lovely dog bed, towel, dog bowls and treats for her. The staff were exceptional and accommodated our uncertain check in time (due to the turbulent IOS ferry crossing) to ensure we had a hot meal upon our late and wet arrival. Food was excellent and we had a brilliant choice for breakfast, can recommend the smoked salmon, scrambled egg and avocado on sourdough toast. My son thoroughly enjoyed his full Cornish too. The beach was just a few minutes walk away and we loved watching the surfers making the most of the huge waves. If you want to feel welcome, be looked after and enjoy good food I can recommend the Portreath Arms.

Lovely rooms, lots of added touches to make stay even more comfortable. The fridge with fresh milk in and the offer of beach towels and toiletries that may have been forgotten were a lovely touch. Robes in the room lovely. Unexpected, which made it even better

Nothing, it was spot on! The food was lovely too, we ate there in the evening and for breakfast
