Ambience, room and food were all great.

We ate in the Grill which was excellent and then walked to a nearby pub, as two of our party have a penchant for real ale. We returned just after 11pm and were told by the member of staff in the bar, that there was no way we could buy a drink regardless as to whether we wanted it in the bar, a residents lounge or our room. We go away frequently and I cannot recall a hotel of this status where we were met with the same refusal. It's not a major problem and we intend to return, but it does constitute the sole occurence that was mildly irritating.

A good size bedroom in the main house (number 51 on 1st floor), one of the few with an air conditioning unit, although it was not hugely effective. Nice bathroom with shower over the bath; very good Noble Isle toiletries. A warm and helpful welcome from the reception staff including valet parking as the car park is a short walk away. Casual supper in the Tavern on our first night; more formal dinner in the Grill on the second night- a beautiful room; excellent breakfasts both days. The hotel has lots of cosy little corners inside to have drinks; we tried to get a table on the patio/ terrace at the back for a drink before dinner but there were no tables available.

It felt as though it was priced for foreign tourists, not for Brits wanting a weekend away- but maybe this is the Cotswolds effect. And I think it’s got a bit too big. 80-something bedrooms means that the service is not particularly personal compared with The Pig hotels which we’ve stayed in too and which are much smaller.

It’s in a beautiful location right in the centre of Broadway. A wonderfully historic building beautifully preserved and well presented. We had a room in the newer part which meant that it had great modern facilities. The birthday card and cakes were a nice touch. Took a few minutes before we left to have a dip in the hot tub in the spa, which was lovely .

The bar and the restaurant food were extremely expensive. The bar especially was surprisingly expensive for a glass of wine and a beer I paid more than the last time I bought the same in west London. Dinner was very good, and extremely expensive.

The ambience and charm is undeniable, and such a lovely village. A good base for exploring the wider area. The dining and bar area are beautiful and a sweet secret garden over the road at the back.

The Gordon Russell suite was certainly spacious though a little more dated than I was expecting. It was as clean as a room with older furnishings and carpets can be, but I would have thought an upgrade due. The sofa beds especially were a little grubby and though my daughter didn’t complain as she was exhausted, I would have had trouble with the thin mattress and springs.

The hotel is beautiful and for us in an ideal location. All the staff were lovely and friendly, but the service was extremely slow and the system they have in place does not work. You have to find a seat and hope that somebody walks past and takes your order. We went to the bar on numerous occasions to ask for a menu and was told to take a seat and someone would come over. This process took us 25 minutes. After 4 attempts we finally got a menu. We then placed an order of a sandwich each and after another small wait, two orders arrived. That was just for lunch. We didn’t need to pay twice but it was amusing. We went for dinner elsewhere as after speaking to other guests, this wasn’t an isolated incident. It seemed that most guests found the wait for service below what is expected of any hotel, let alone this one. When we came back in the evening it was the same routine to get a drink. We watched as many people went to the bar to order a drink to be told that they had to wait at the table for someone to take an order. It’s a very flawed system and you can see on everyone’s face, both guests and staff that it doesn’t work. Such a beautiful hotel with such a poor quality of service. Breakfast in the morning was even worse. We had to queue just to be seen to get a table. Then wait an eternity for a coffee. With the amount of people at the hotel as a gust, we did wonder why they didn’t pre-book a time slot to eat, so this ended up chaos with the staff under pressure when it was not handled well from the start. When you pay close to £600 per night for a hotel we expect the service to match. Unfortunately this did not deliver and we really hoped it would.

Stayed here a few times now and it's always consistently good. Service is very good at any given point, they do accommodate most requests if they can which is nice. Reception staff are always very welcoming, and the staff in the grill are very accommodating also. The whole building itself is an absolute joy to be in, so much character and history to it.

The only negative we saw this time is some areas of the grill restaurant we noticed the wooden trims were damaged with holes in the wood, For a high-end establishment this shouldn't be the case and as it was pretty much table level it can't have got missed so I can only assume it's been left. Window sills inside the grill restaurant were very dusty with a buildup of thick dust and cobwebs which is picking at things but I don't expect this from the Lygon Arms, it was eye level too so again couldn't have been an oversight. Finally, our room did have some damage internally, wooden trims around the room were damaged and the wardrobe doors a damaged. All in all though in the grand scheme of things everything was top notch as it has been previously. We will be back.

Located in perhaps the most beautiful town in the Cotswolds, the hotel takes you to another world, a fairytale one. The services are like for 5 stars - they park your car if you wish, help you with your luggage, accompany you to your room and show you all the facilities. We were accommodated in the Annex and had our own terrace outside which was a pleasure to sit on in the evening with a glass of wine. The food in the brasserie is not amazing, and unfortunately we did not get to try the a la carte restaurant. The breakfast was correct. Parking is a plus in this small town.

We stayed in a cosy double room with our dog. Upon arrival, all staff were attentive and prepared the room with a little dog bed, bowls, and treats. The bed was super comfortable, and the bathroom was lovely. We did not have breakfast as we decided to lie in and wander around the beautiful village of Broadway. As we had our dog, we were meant to eat in the dog-friendly restaurant, but we were the only guests eating at the time so our waiter kindly suggested we move to a table near the bar for a better atmosphere. The food was great and we were looked after really well. Overall, the hotel was beautiful and I would highly recommend.

The only criticisms would be (did not affect our stay but worth mentioning): 1. The door to our room was not soundproof. We were by the stairwell and could hear everyone's conversations, and it would set off our dog. 2. 4pm check in which we thought was unusually late. Luckily, in the end, it didn't matter to us as we ended up spending time elsewhere, but it was a worry when we first read this. 3. No car parking signs on the main road. We did go up and down the high street on arrival, trying to figure out where the car park was, as there weren't any signs (or so we could see).

Astonishingly good! Food is the best we've found in the Cotswolds, menu by James Martin, my girlfriend has the dover sole, which she reckoned to be the best she's ever had, £59, but completely worth it. Rooms are excellent, air conditioned, WiFi throughout the property. The service is impeccable from every member of staff. I couldn't possibly recommend this place more. We even added 2 extra nights because we really didn't want to leave! Thank you to all at The Lygon for a wonderful stay. See you soon without doubt

There's was nothing we didn't like

Beautiful building, stunning decor. Staff were helpful and pleasant. I wouldn’t say friendly or warm but very professional and to the point. Room was decorated to the style of the property Plenty of coffee and tea facilities in the room, plenty of bottles of water available at no extra cost, fresh milk brought to the room. Very comfortable bed and slept extremely well. Excellent breakfast options.

Disappointed to see that the tiles and blind in the bathroom had black mould which considering the cost, really should be freshened up.
