Everything really, a true authentic Mexico boutique hotel! The experience at La Joya was beautiful, exotic, scenically breathtaking at times with its rustic charm on every level of this hotel. The walk down the stairs, was thoroughly eye-appealing with colorful walls done in bright colors and Mexican tiles, exotic plants, flowers, a fountain, steps naturally blended into this organic landscape of ocean and jungle blended into the natural decor of this enchanting hotel. Our rooms (the junior suite, holds 3) were so comfortable with a new soft kingsize bed (they also brought up a new twin size mattress for my son for the week). It also had a new couch and loveseat, mini-fridge, golden marble counters with kitchenette. New air-conditioners also in individual rooms which made our stay, a perfect blend of air and comfort. All the rooms face the ocean with quaint, individualistic views of the ocean from the walk out porches with rockers, table and chairs and a hammock! The ocean views from the ocean literally steal your breath away! They have the most splendid beach I have ever seen, allowing you to swim on one side and snorkel on the other with so many tropical fish and aquatic life *BUY WATER SHOES* (you need them for foot protection while walking near coral and rocks- they also rent snorkeling equipment for $8 US dollars for 24 hours) They have a nice size pool with 2 different depths for adults and children. Most of the rooms at La Joya have accommodations for 2 people but for about $30.00 a day extra for breakfast and an extra twin bed, you can accommodate possible a child or two;ask when booking). Oswaldo and Luis will accommodate you with just about anything you need including a golfcart rental or calling the local taxi service which was punctual at 5:30 am in the morning in getting us back to the ferry on leaving day. (About $10.00 to $12.

la Joya is a gem. It’s just as described - a boutique hotel overlooking the Mediterranean. Plenty of opportunities to relax and enjoy the view of the Sea. Our room (#4) was comfortable and clean with a lovely view of the Sea from the room and the deck. The bed was comfortable and the air conditioning was a welcome amenity. Breakfast was served every morning on the deck- a wonderful way to start the day. La Joya is located in a very quiet part of the island, with few restaurant options, which wasn’t an issue for us. Taxis are plentiful to get all around the island.

The majority of the staff were very friendly and super helpful, although the man who I think was the manager was curt. I felt like I was bothering him each time I interacted with him. They didn’t have any snorkeling gear. The process for ordering breakfast - submit a paper request every day- is very outdated. It was hard to remember to do it and there seemed to be miscommunication between the reception staff and the kitchen. They are working on updating it.

Hotel La Joya is a hidden gem, with the most glorious sunsets and ocean views from every room in the southern part of Isla Mujeres. We loved the authentic Mexican feel of the property and decor. What makes this property extra special though was both Oswaldo and Hector who so lovingly take care of the property, the hotel, and the guests needs. This is a very special place because of them. We were so comfortable in our room and you cannot beat the location. You are within walking distance to a bunch of very cool and delicious restaurants, cool shops, beach clubs, and a quick taxi to town, or jump on the local bus that comes every half hour for 20 pesos ($1 US) - great way to see the island and experience some locals. This was our first time on Isla Mujeres and we were blown away by its beauty, the spectacular beaches, the delicious fresh food everywhere we went, the safety of the island, and the friendliness of the people. We LOVED avsolutely everything about it!

If you have any type of mobility issues and have difficulty with stairs then this is not the hotel for you.

The staff was wonderful! The view is spectacular...the swimming right on property is amazing...wonderful snorkeling..It is a place with a lot of character, and the sunrises 6 minute walk away, and sunsets on premises are amazing. Juan, the cook, always is ready with a smile, and Oswaldo is an incredibly hard worker, and responds immediately to any need.

Some party boats would park at the beautiful swimming oasis this hotel has, and play their music...but we did notice that sometimes the water authorities would try to discourage it, but they can continue to try a bit harder...

This is such a unique and special hotel. From the moment we stepped through the gate and saw the beautiful pool, landscaping, and view, we were so happy. The staff are attentive, kind, and professional. It feels like the small boutique hotel it is - people are friendly, each room is unique, and the hotel small enough to feel very personal. I was traveling with my husband and daughter. We stayed in one of the suites. It was comfortable and the space large enough for all three of us. The charter boats that come near the hotel during the afternoon can be loud, but only one day did the music seem to be a lot. Otherwise, it was fine. Each night, they were gone by 8. My favorite part - their very cute and friendly cat who came to visit each evening. We left there to continue our travels and were sad our next hotel wasn't this one.

The property was so beautiful ! The staff was exceptional, and we loved being at the south end of the island away from the hoards of tourists.

The area right off of our hotel seem to be the popular destination for day, catamaran and large boats. This would not have been a problem, except they all loved to blare their music while anchored. Sound travels across the water and it was very close so it became quite annoying. This of course is not the hotels fault but it is a factor on whether you can put up with that during the day and as we did well into one night.

Hotel La Joya was a gem. We had the rooms with a kitchenette at the top of the cascading, terraced hillside hotel. A fantastic view. An intriguing layout with rooms on the different levels and clearly each individually laid out. A great pool area. Obvious care with the plantings and surfaces. A morning cafe area and a restaurant/bar at the pool side. The meals were very good and a great offering of various dishes. Good snorkeling right from the beach. The staff were very friendly and helpful and we had no trouble communicating. If we return to Isla, this would be a first choice. Even though it is on the quieter end of the islands, there was a convenience store and other eating spots as well.

As many have stated, great views, beautiful quiet location. Yes, hotel is older, but very quaint. Staff are fabulous and go out of their way to make your stay special. Continental breakfast included and can be served on your patio. We had no problems with water pressure or hot water access. They are working on improving the hotel plumbing and water as we had ours turned off one day while working on it, but it wasn’t a problem as we were at the beach/pool during this time. Loved watching the iguanas that would wander around the pool and grounds at times. The hotel is built on the side of the cliffs on the south end of the island facing Cancun. So, there are a lot of stairs (uneven) to get anywhere on the property. Was not a problem for us, but something to be aware of. There are a few bars/restaurants to easily walk to.

Coffee was not hot, food was ok, but nothing special and not a large selection. Room is cleaned everyday, but not always very well. When we arrived, we found someone’s bra left behind the refrigerator. Our room had a kitchenette, however there was 1 plate, 1 fork, 1 knife, and a few odd other pieces. Not very well equipped.

The place was located perfectly on the cliff side which gave an amazing view over the sea. The hotel is small and intimate which gives it an amazing feel compared to big hotels. It is also built with a certain charm, as it is colourful and not just a big block of cement. The staff is friendly, helpful and attentive. Moreover they go above and beyond, we lost a phone in the cab and the two managers managed to track the cab down and get our phone back. The hotel is placed in the south of island which is somewhat far away from the rest of island. However there is a bus you can take for 20 pesos a person, or taxis that drove us all the way to the north harbour for 150 pesos.

Girlfriend said the water pressure in the shower was ent great.

We loved it here! It felt like a family run hotel because it’s not too large, but all the facilities and cleanliness were a very high standard. The owner is warm and accomodating and checked in on us regularly. We were there a couple of days before an approaching hurricane and they offered to move us into a different room with more security. The views are absolutely gorgeous and the little beach is so beautiful. The photos don’t do it justice!

Very minor - sometimes the communication between staff was missed. We turned up to have our breakfast at the time we had indicated the night before but the cook was confused to see us and we don’t speak Spanish so struggled to communicate with her.
