El Monte Sagrado is a stunningly beautiful retreat that seamlessly blends nature with architecture, creating a truly immersive sensory experience. We stayed in one of their two-bedroom Adobe cottages, which was tastefully decorated with Japanese-inspired artistic touches and featured a private fenced patio—perfect for relaxing in privacy. The on-site restaurant and room service were exceptional. Standout dishes included the chile relleno and blue corn tacos, both of which were absolutely delicious. The complimentary shuttle service to Taos Pueblo and other local destinations was a great convenience. Our valet, Brian, went above and beyond—offering excellent local dining recommendations and even calling ahead to the Pueblo to confirm it was open. He also kindly took us to a nearby shop so I could purchase a swimsuit for a dip in the hotel’s saltwater pool. The spa experience was delightful. My husband and I enjoyed massages, though we were disappointed to learn—after our treatments—that access to the steam and dry saunas was included. It would have been wonderful to take advantage of those amenities had we been informed beforehand. While the property has undeniable charm, it’s clear that parts of the facility are in need of maintenance. A fresh coat of paint and some thoughtful care could go a long way in restoring its full splendor. Some of the staff appeared inexperienced for a resort of this caliber, but they were consistently warm, friendly, and eager to help. Despite a few shortcomings, we’re already looking forward to returning—next time with our adult children. El Monte Sagrado is a uniquely elegant destination, ideal for adults seeking a rich, immersive, and tranquil escape.

We loved our stay and hope to return again.

Beautiful outdoor space. Nice, spacious rooms, really loved the tub! Convenient location! The morning yoga was a nice offering. Comfortable bed!

Just a few things can make this property more worth the cost: 1. There is noticeable wear and tear of the property, with scuffs on ceilings and walls as well as stains on linens (though clean) and curtains that show its age and lack of attention to detail/thorough cleaning. Some sprucing up would go a long way! 2. There were no water fountains or water refill stations and the property had a lot of plastic bottle waste. 3. The restaurant and food options seemed limiting and sad. We did all our meals offsite. It would be nice if a breakfast voucher was included at least to have a percentage off for guests. The dinner restaurant appeared upscale, but in passing it by each night, it was rather empty, which isn’t a good look.

Beautiful exterior surroundings with charming, often dramatic architectural details. The staff were exceptional. We enjoyed the fireplace in the room.

Our room had the huge bathtub right in the room, so far just unusual. But over it was the most hideous big painting of a dark red face with manic eyes staring out! Enough to turn your stomach, and keep you out of that bathtub. The lamps looked like mismatched thrift store rejects. There was no soap dish, and the vessel sink made water splash all over. Finally, the shower had a very attractive pebble floor—which was excruciating for my partner’s neuropathy feet to stand on. Altogether a disappointment.

Beautifully landscaped masterfully gardened property. Far more breathtaking in person. The koi ponds are gorgeous. The cottonwood trees are glorious. Just wandering the property was awesome. We stayed in a King room. Everything was satisfactorily clean.Very large rooms, Very HOT water, great soaking tub, comfy beds! And yes, enough pillows! Would have loved to have had a ceiling fan but that's a personal preference. And Vegans may not like the cow hide and antler decor.

Food was delicious but not much choice and very pricey. Food in town is amazing. We did not utilize the spa services because of the pricing (We booked with a local resident nearby). Salt water pool and hot tub and greenhouse are awesome too! We had one noisy neighbor but guest services were quick to respond. Only other complaint I had was they left my car unlocked when the valet moved it. So we just self parked after that.

Heather at the living spa was amazing. The staff at the living spa were also helpful and kind. The yoga teacher Lacey was so good. The restaurant staff was accommodating and very pleasant and the hatch chili cornbread was to die for! The refrigerator had a freezer which was nice for those of us traveling long distances. The grounds were beautiful and relaxing and green.

Room wasn't as clean as I had hoped for such a beautiful and expensive place. Fixtures, baseboards, surfaces need to be wiped down between each use. Would have liked to have had a microwave in the room.

I've stayed multiple times, the staff is always wonderful from valet through the restaurants.

The hotel is a little tired and could use some TLC. Lights in the bar are crooked on the wall, bulbs are out, the lanterns could be turned on in the evening. When chips with a few sides of dip cost as much as they do, the lights should be dim and the ambiance should feel welcoming.

Expensive, but excellent breakfast. Housekeeping was excellent & responsive. Beautiful property & facilities.

Yoga was complementary, but not notified that the location was moved to the ballroom. Instructor had to bring mats, etc from upstairs. Ballroom hadn’t been vacuumed. The hot tub was non functional the entire time. I feel if not available it should have been on the website or told ahead of time. A discount on the resort fee would have been appropriate.

Serene and gorgeous property -- it felt exactly like I hoped Taos would feel. The room was a bit luxurious with a nice patio, and dog friendly too. Staff were all exceptionally welcoming and helpful. Marvelous cocktails at the Anaconda Bar. Prime location; walkable to downtown but still feels secluded and woodsy. Beautiful saltwater pool. Great value. This place gets everything right.

room is very good shower great bed excellent size of room and view great

lots of hidden charges-$35 dollars for "amenities" which we didn't / don't use. eg yoga shuttle -free coffee that we pay for?? other mysterious fees. our friends who were also staying at elmonte won't return because of the fees which we were not informed of before we arrived. also extra pet fee $75 which we also were not informed of before we arrived. breakfast not so good either.

Breakfast was excellent.

To have at least one simpler, smaller cafe with easy items: coffee, pastries, fruit, snacks. You can find cozy, less expensive options in town, although not really within walking distance. Also, minor maintenance and cleaning could be improved; mostly small details, but still noticeable. Wouldn’t take a lot to make those improvements.
