excellent location across street from beautiful park with view of lake, waves, snow -- on main street of fascinating Duluth beautiful salon rooms on top floor of hotel, old furniture, high ceilings -- building is built into a hillside, 45' x 90' - about 140 years old, stone, used to be city hall - very good bus service - I went to Superior WI and took photos - I will return to Duluth in the summer and walk on the beach on Minnesota Point - excellent coffee shops on same block as this hotel,

noisy at night - a lot of party people in the building, shouting, running, slamming doors - I was there night of Feb. 14, and night of 15th was also 'party night' many people have the security code to the front door - my room was directly underneath front door - there is a bar and a yoga class also in the building - building has three entrances -- hills are very steep and there was ice on the sidewalks, but that is not the fault of the hotel, it is the character of the town

I liked the uniqueness of the property. The decor was fun an eclectic. The parking across the street was convenient and the location was walkable to the things we wanted to see / do. It was also nice to have the microwave and mini fridge/freezer in the room. The communication when checking in and out was great as well. The bar downstairs was also really interesting and different - nice craft cocktails!

The room was very dusty...huge cobwebs on the tops of the tall windows including a large, full-out spider web. The lights in the sitting area outside of our room were very bright and the shade over the window allowed light in which was distracting when trying to sleep. I would recommend dimming them at night. Would also suggest providing more than one hand-towel.

The location was convenient, the architecture/decor was very cute, rooms were clean and nicely decorated. We didn't get a chance to use the sauna but it was a nice touch.

Booking.com and the Oliver Inn use different confirmation numbers. You need a confirmation number to get into your room, but they don't specify which one to use and there is no one onsite to assist if the code doesn't work. Someone came to help us pretty quickly, but it was still frustrating. Apparently, they had programmed our room lock with the "Oliver Inn confirmation code" and we were trying to get in with our "Booking.com confirmation code" - which is the one that was listed everywhere. There could definitely be clearer communication around this (either between booking.com and the oliver inn so there don't have to be multiple codes for guests to manage - or, at least, specify to the guest which code they should use). But once we got into the room everything was great :)

Very nice facilities - clean and comfortable. The assistant manager was very helpful in finding us another room after I realized that our original reservation was for a room that did not have a restroom and shower in the room - an unacceptable condition for us.

The room description in Booking.com does not make it clear that the room does not have a shower and toilet in the room. The shower/restroom for the room we initially reserved is a public facility down the hall that is shared by three other rooms and a yoga class. This is not apparant until after the non-refundable reservation is completed and the hotel sends detailed information. We were lucky that the very helpful assistant manager was able to relocate us into a room with integral restroom and shower. The room description in booking.com should be edited to make the shower/restroom situation in the room being reserved perfectly clear.

We were traveling through The area and bought tickets to see Next to Normal at the Duluth. Playhouse, so finding lodging across the street was terrific. We were able to get good food at Pizza Luche after the performance within 2 blocks of the Oliver.Our room was just off the street and it was very quiet. It was $15 for 24 hours of parking in the nearby lot. Everything was comfortable efficient and pleasant

Read the whole welcome letter.. lol This spot popped up on a search while driving. We'd Skied at Giants Ridge all day and I wasn't paying attention to the details. But all the info we needed was there.

Older building full of character. We had a beautiful spacious room, and the bathroom was wonderful with a rainfall shower head. Great directions to enter the room with the code.

Although there was a secure city-owned parking ramp across the street, we felt a little uncomfortable walking to the parking ramp. It is located downtown, which is a beautiful location, but there are some interesting characters to encounter when walking to the parking ramp.

The location was great! 1 block from a pedestrian bridge to an incredible view of Lake Superior, the lift bridge, and Canal Park! Right on the Lakewalk. Hotel Oliver was a historical building and our hostel-style room had one wall with the original stone! Beds were very comfortable! The sauna was wonderful!

There was a chime every time someone entered or exited the main doors. This was right above our room and it woke me up at 7am.

It’s a cool old building with a very cool bar in the basement. The main floor is being remodeled and the hammering and pounding began again at 7:30am Sunday morning. But it wasn’t too bothersome. While not down on Canal Park the walk was short and easy.

It’s across the street from the casino and can be a little scary with the characters that hang out there.

We liked the historical features and cool ambience of the hotel. The free drink tickets were an added bonus because the bar at the hotel was unique and the live band (week night)was excellent as well as incredibly friendly bar staff.

Parking wasn't ideal and walking through the many homeless inquiring about belongs as we carried them to hotel was unsetting. Also, walking through the hostess area of a restaurant was strange as well as the elevator floor numbering system.

Room very clean. Hotel in historical building. Bar in basement very cool.

AC did not work, ceiling fan helped. No blow dryer available as indicated. Noisy street out front, including late thru night. Smell from Japanese restaurant lofting from below.
