There are two Watarase Onsen hotels at this location : Sasayuri and Yamayuri. The Yamayuri is the one I have stayed for 2 nights. It is easier to access the Yamayuri from the main road. Secondly, most of the Onsen pools - public outdoor and private baths - are located at the Yamayuri. Speaking of the Onsen pools, the public outdoor is huge. You can order foods after you finished the bath because the entrance is a souvenir shop and a restaurant. The private baths are my most favorites. There are four private baths, and you can use the key attached to your room key to access it. The private baths are big. Each can accommodate 5-10 people easily. The meals - breakfast and dinner - are very good. The staff are excellent. The room has safe, and toilet but not bathroom. There is coin laundry machine on site also. From this hotel, you can walk to the free public onsen on Oto river.
None.

Marvellous food at dinner with fish and meat, excellent breakfast. Waiters and waitress: accurate, friendly, professional, a very high level rare to find. Super well organised hotel, magnificent service of the reception. We were very happy with the large private onsen outside, it is very relaxing with no limit on the duration, with plants and no mosquitos. Everything super easy. Hotel and dinner/breakfast not crowded.

Beautiful, simple, and spacious rooms in the Japanese-style washitsu that includes tatami mats as flooring. The hotel looks old, but it has a sense of history. The on-site traditional onsen, with both open-air private and communal-public baths areas, is one of the hotel's main attractions. The hotel provides yukatas (robe) and slippers for accessing the Onsens. It is about 5km from Kumano Hongu Taisha Shrine, and the hotel offers a shuttle bus service to either the Hongu Information Cenre or Hosshinmon-oji. We stayed two nights and had a relaxing time time; it felt like a peaceful retreat. A great place to stay as part of the Kumano Kodo.
The facilities are a bit old, but the service and hot springs are great.

The private on sens which they had 4 so plenty and very nice. Breakfast was also nice but it's the natural and nature setting that was very nice, central enough to have all the mod cons but on the other hand remote enough so you felt with nature and quiet. Staff was very nice and helpful too. There also is a good laundry opposite that washes and dries, was very handy to use after many days on the road. Night is also colourful with very lovely light display was a surprise.
Nothing is was a great place to relax and feel with nature.

We stayed here 1 night for the Kumano Kodo hike. The hotel is easy to find and close to the bus stop. There are 4 private onsens anyone can use. We don't really need to wait to get an open onsen room. It's quite big, can easily fit 10 people in the onsen pool. It also got laundry and food hall area that you can self-service.
I did not realize if you want to eat in the restaurant, you have to book the dinner/breakfast when you book the room. I don't think they highlighted that in the bookings website. So when I got there, I had no other choice but eat in the food hall area with self-service. The food end up to be quite homey and good, but I would eat at the restaurant if I could. Their restaurant meal looks wonderful.

4 Huge clean outdoor private hot springs available. Spectacular outdoor public onsen steps away with 4 temperature pools. Suspension bridge was nice . 3 minute drive to Kawayu . Staff were extremely helpful when we locked ourselves out of room :D - thank you!
The private onsen were too hot for us :) Is it possible to have some at different temperatures and post temperature on the door? The public onsen was amazing alternative if you need cooler temperatures :)

Beautiful location on the river…the private onsen baths were very nice and much larger than expected and were easy to find openings many times in the night and morning. Perfect temperature. The hotel traditional breakfast was excellent. Would definitely recommend and stay again!

Beautiful location fabulous onsen. Private onsens easily available and included in the booking. This is a lovely classic hotel. The staff are helpful and very friendly. We didn’t book any meals but there is an on-site cafe that served reasonable good quality meals. The bridge over the river is lit up at night looks so pretty.

The location and room were great.
The staff didn't speak English, so we communicated using a translation app. This made it a bit confusing to navigate the town and facilities. I can't blame them for this though since mostly local tourists seem to come here. Ultimately it wasn't too big of an issue, just worth noting.

4 nice private onsen are available with no need to book in advance; otherwise public onsen is available nearby the hotel. Good and large dinner. Old fashioned structure but with onsen and dinner was a very nice stay.
