Everything about this guesthouse is thought over and just perfect I have to say. The beautiful rooms, the breakfast every moning on your terrace, the shuttle service to and from town, and most of all the hospitality of the owners. The owner most of the time knew exactly what I wanted before I even said it out loud. Six nights in paradise as far as I'm concerned. Would love to go back there! Tip: have dinner at their lovely terrace at the river. You can see mount Phou Si from there. I didn't know it was there until the end of my stay (my mistake, the owner told me about it). Most beautiful sunset of my trip!

Nothing, It's a 25 minute walk to town, but they run a free shuttle van several times a day and I think they offer free bikes as well. I liked the walk :)

Had an amazing experience, mainly because of Mr Thy, Mrs Kai and the rest of the wonderful stuff who went above and beyond to deliver excellent service. The location is quiet and peaceful besides the river, and the complimentary shuttle service (except for the Alms giving) is great. I had a wonderful room in which I found a small lizard when I checked in. He was more scared than I was.. and what do you expect.. you are in the middle of the nature! They provide excellent service such as helping/booking tours, free airport pick-up and drop-off, laundry service, in-house barbershop and an excellent menu for breakfast till late night meals. The breakfasts are great; 4 options to choose from that will be brought to your bungalow on the time requested. The property itself is very clean and calm, in a lush green garden. The room was spacious, good airconditioning, bathroom was nice and good warm shower. They also provided a scooter rental which I used two days. Very convenient, for 130k Kip per day. After checking-out on the day that I left, I could use a room near the pool to spend some hours until they brought me to the airport. Fantastic! I can highly recommend this wonderful place!

This was by far our favorite hotel during our trip to Laos! The place is absolutely stunning, with beautiful surroundings and a peaceful, quiet location that made our stay so relaxing. The staff were exceptionally helpful, always ready to assist with anything we needed, and the owner went above and beyond to ensure we had an unforgettable experience. We also loved the convenience of the bus service to the town center, which made exploring easy while still enjoying the tranquility of the hotel's location. Everything about this place was perfect, and we can’t recommend it highly enough. We’d definitely love to stay here again!

I have just spent four nights at this oasis and I cannot recommend Thongbay Guesthouse highly enough. The grounds are absolutely stunning and the river views just sublime. Having your breakfast served on the balcony and watching the world pass by along the Mekong was a real highlight of my stay here. The place has wish a beautiful energy. The family and all the staff are so helpful and cannot do enough for you. To have a shuttle service included was so handy and meant you get the best of both worlds. You can stay in peace away from the hustle and bustle but have really easy access to the city when you need it. I was also so grateful to be given a transfer to the airport at the end of my stay. I have fallen in love with Laos and hope to visit again and without doubt will stay at Thongbay if I am lucky enough to be in Luang Prabang again. Thank you so much for everything.

Nothing- it was perfect

The bungalows are in a beautifully maintained garden, with little pergolas you can sit in to eat and a terrace. You have a great view of the Nam Can from the riverside ones, which make your morning breakfasts really magic. The staff are all incredibly friendly and accommodating, and have put a lot of thought into all aspects of your stay. There’s a free shuttle into the Main Street in town that’s really convenient, and we organised our trip to the waterfalls really easily. Breakfast is amazing, I’ll miss my lao coffee on the balcony. Would highly recommend staying here. Thank you for a lovely time

Everything was so great!

Booked a bungalow set in a beautiful tropical garden overlooking the river. On arrival Mr Ty explained everything clearly and was always ready to help and offer advice. In fact all of the staff were lovely and nothing was too much trouble. The room was large and had everything we needed for our 5 nights. We also made use of the laundry service which was very good. Breakfast was selected the evening before and served to your room at a time of your choosing. There is no better start to the day than sat on your balcony enjoying the views and breakfast! The pool area is great for a nice cool down after a days sightseeing. You can walk to or from town in about 30mins; we did twice or catch the complimentary shuttle bus which operates a few times a day. Loved our stay and thank you to everyone who made it so enjoyable.

A beautiful, beautiful guesthouse! This place really is exceptional. Staff are fantastic English speakers and can arrange anything. The whole setting is truly idealic, beautiful spacious detached bungalows over-the-counter river with decked balconies breakfast and dinner are brought to your bungalows. A little like a gorgeous hut in the jungle as the gardens/Resort is mature, well kept gardens with the evening sound of a chorus of frogs and crickets. I was a little concerned over mosquitos at night being so close to the river but it was OK, once sun had set. I only saw/ heard one mosquito outside so this should not put you off at all . Pedal bikes are available, new bikes, which are a must for the 5.30 am rise to watch the offerings made to the local Buddhist monks. It's an easy 10 min cycle to the centre but don't miss on the way the local ladies sitting on the pavement on the way into the town centre waiting to give offerings to the Buddhist monks from the temples more local to Thong Bay. Unfortunately the central located custom offerings are a 'tourist' honeypot sight even at 6am but still worth visiting. This guesthouse also has a good sized pool and lots of loungers. I don't typically write reviews but this place is exceptional and don't be put off by its non central location as they provide free tuc tuc transport to and from the centre. Cleanliness and traditional decor feel, I can't recommend this place highly enough.

Nothing i didn't like, it was great

This hotel provides helpful customer service and staff are very professional and polite. Staff helped guide us on activities around town and made transport arrangements throughout our stay. The natural landscape around the bungalows is beautiful, and there are lots of public outdoor spaces to sit, eat, or relax. We particularly enjoyed breakfast on our porch each morning, and the pool provided a great escape from the heat. Thongbay also provides free bicycles to get around town.

The location is a little far from the main parts of town, so be prepared to use the hotel's shuttle service, tuk tuks, or bikes. Also, our room's floor was extremely creaky, and made a lot of noise when we walked around at night.

The rooms are spacious with a lovely adjoining bathroom, and of course a balcony. All very nicely laid out. There was a good choice of breakfasts and all the food was good. There is a regular shuttle bus into and out of town. The bus driver is also very helpful. Our host Tay was fantastic, he and his team went out of their way to assist us in anything we needed. The pool is very clean, refreshing and in a lovely setting. They also provided towels for swimming. I can’t recommend this place highly enough. Thank you.

I loved everything.

The location is a few minutes from town which makes this a hidden gem! Sitting on my riverfront balcony sipping Lao coffee and eating a delicious breakfast (served to the room daily) was priceless. A peaceful retreat. The only sounds were those of frogs and roosters. The riverfront view includes a view of Mt Phousi and an occasional boat gliding past. The staff are all exceptional; wanting to offer a hand at everything from setting up Tuk-Tuks to taking room service orders and booking trains. All meals I had were excellent, well priced and large portions.

I loved it all. Wish I could have stayed longer.
