We have been going to the Black Orchid since 2010. This was our 6th or 7th time stay there. We found they continue to improve and consistently meet our expectations in all areas food, the room, the staff, etc.

This was the first time we were asked to pay for airport transportation. While we were shocked by that and a little disappointed, I guess one has to understand with the increase in gas prices. However, I thought it was a little overpriced and didn't like that. The airport is only about 15 to 20 miles away and we seemed to pay for a tank of gas.

1. the grounds: this hotel/resort is set in a gorgeous, lush, incredibly beautiful area, with a river right there, and lush greenery abounding. Absolutely lovely grounds. 2. staff: every one of the staff were extremely friendly and hospitable. 3. room: spacious, comfortable beds, shower very nice, and a lovely, large balcony area to sit in.

THE FOOD. Way below average - they really should do better. Had 2 meals, and both were below par. Again, the service was great, but the food should have been MUCH better, not only because of the price (not inexpensive), but also because we didn't have any other options in this remote location. Honestly, I am NOT a picky person with regard to food, and usually don't care that much, but the food was bordering on awful. Do NOT get the beef hamburger or the lemongrass chicken. At home, I would have sent them both back to the kitchen. Yuck. Please do better.

This property was a gem. It was not close to the airport and on a secluded road. It was gated and very secure. The property is very clean and maintained. We had a king suite room and it was spotless. It was huge and had beautiful wood decor. We always had hot water and the air conditioning worked well. Had a nice porch in front to sit and watch the Belize River. The pool area was immaculate. It had a cute little bar with games for guests. The restaurant was by the pool and bar and had outdoor screened in seating. The restaurant had a lot of food options for such a small property. Our breakfast and dinner were delicious. The waiter was the only waiter and also served as the bartender and they ran between both buildings. There weren’t a lot of people there but the two different waiters we had were so professional and efficient. They never stopped. Made sure we had cold water and removed our empty plates. The front desk staff were very friendly and professional. Even the shuttle van driver was amazing. We were only there for one night but they offered spa services and excursions.

This property was in a convenient location from the airport. It is an older property which could use some updating. All areas were kept as clean as possible. The employees are what make this property a gem, everyone went out of their way to make sure they could do whatever we needed. The food at the restaurant was good and there is a small bar on the property. They do have a list of excursions that they will set up. We did two separate excursions and both were very good. We also got to see many animals while on the property from howler monkeys to crocodiles and many birds.

The property could use some renovating and sprucing up. I also think it would be a good idea to include breakfast in the room rate. The furniture around the property could also use some updating and be more comfortable. There was an old spa area that is currently unused at the time, it would be nice to have that renovated as well. They also advertise a spa, but it is currently closed.

The room was spacious and bed size was good. Rustic feel of the room gave a Belizean and camp feel, very high ceilings and wood trim. River view was gorgeous. Pool area was very nice and clean. Food at the restaurant was very good. Could hear and see several different bird species. Very quiet and secluded. Not many other people on the property. Availability of shuttle to and from the airport for a small fee.

Seemed to be far from the city center. Not able to walk to any stores or local "fast food" places. Being close to the river and in a very wooded area, the mosquitoes did ravish us, even with using repellent. The room did not have any extra seating (sofa, chair or table)

I stayed at beginning and end of my 10 day Belize adventure. I enjoyed my stay at The Black Orchard Resort. Away from the city surrounded by birds and on occasion monkey filled trees. My room near the pool was comfortable room and I enjoyed deck with comfy chairs. The staff were welcoming, cheerful, and helpful. The meals in the restaurant offered a good variety with fresh seafood offerings and the food was tasty. The staff shared information about area and birds and monkeys on and near property. If I return to Belize City, I would definitely stay here again.

The shower water was not always hot.

Beautiful property that’s only 20 minutes from the airport, but you feel immersed in nature. Loved the spacious room, restaurant open all day, and lovely staff. We were easily able to book transfers from the water taxi station and to the airport. They are very responsive via WhatsApp. There’s tons of nature to view along the river, but with that comes bugs. Thankfully the restaurant has a large screened in section so you can appreciate the views and the breeze without the bugs.

We liked the quiet location. The complimentary canoe use. The bar/restaurant was very nice. Staff was awesome! River view room was private and lovely. Treated myself to a pedicure/young lady was lovely and I enjoyed it very much! Got to hear the howler monkeys! ( wish I would of known sooner that they came down to the parking lot at times) Was impressed with How the staff walked you to your room and areas u needed to go to! I would recommend this resort.

Because we stayed on a Sunday some guests may not be aware local residents can use the pool this day. We think this is great as Belize is our second home! So we s by for a nice canoe ride. It was busy until roughly 5 pm. Then we had the facilities mostly to our selfs!

An exotic place in Belize jungle The pool was well maintained Staff was solicitous It was not crowded. Food was good and good value. The tour of crooked tree bird sanctuary was amazing. We were on our own but we noted that both Road Scholar and National Geographic used the resort as a base for a couple of days. The rooms were spacious and air conditioning worked well

It was a little run down. The spa/hot tub wasn’t working. The canoes were old with sub standard paddles. The restaurant menu was limited; they ran out of fish We’d planned tours of the Mayan ruins but that wasn’t available No in room safe for passport.

Beautiful little place set by the river with many birds to enjoy, and we even heard the howler monkeys close by! Pool was very nice, clean and comfortable temperature. Food and drinks were good - would have been fun to have a drink/food special or happy hour offered. Rooms were very nice and good AC. Staff absolutely wonderful, so friendly and helpful!!

Really no complaints. We were here for 2 nights and had a tour guide pick us up one day for cave tubing. If you stayed a longer time, it it rather remote with nothing else really around, so you don’t have other options for dining but we really enjoyed the meals we had at the resort!!
