Absolutely spot on from booking ( which I made an error). Sue was brilliant at giving me advice to sort it out, and it was lovely to meet her in person. Tracey was another lovely staff member that my brother and I met. The lady serving our breakfast was great as well, I never got her name. The breakfast itself was delicious, quality ingredients, and piping hot. Every area of the Bear was clean. On entering the Bear, you just felt so welcome. For me, customer service is sooo important and the Bear has it in abundance. My visit was my first but definitely not my last. !!

The room was very comfortable, clean and everything worked well. Except the shower. The hot and cold water was good. But shower head didn’t fit well in the bracket. It kept hanging loose. So I had to hold it by hand. Nevertheless, the ceiling shower works well. One issue. It was rather noisy as it overlooks the square. Groups of youngsters rather noisy after going to the pub. Also the Kebab shop in the square attracted the groups of people, as it’s open until midnight. Things got quiet after midnight. Except for the chiming of the clock every hour in the Town Hall. I didn’t need an alarm to wake me up at 7.00. AM. Very convenient Tesco’s around the corner for. Sandwiches, drinks, water. All in all it was a good stay and convenient for my travel plans.

The staff were lovely and couldn't do enough for you. The food was great. Rooms roomy, clean and comfortable. We have used The Bear a few times as we have family locally.

The noise in the street till 2.30 am coming from the local night club on both nights!

Repeat customer. Facility is unchanged from 2022. As before, limited kitchen hours, but they disclose that up front (bakery across the street is fresh each morning...). Online photos are accurate.

Right in the heart of the town, with a lively evening bar. Good selection of beers and spirits, and very cheap compared to most venues. Big bedroom with lots of coffee and tea, without needing to bother reception etc.

Rooms were good sized, very clean and aired, attractive and comfortable. Very useful having a bar and cafe downstairs and being so near the venues our Norman Nicholson Festival events were being held (and noise didn’t carry!)

For reasonably inexpensive accommodation, all pretty good but a few more hooks/ towel rial in bathroom would be useful plus my entry door was a bit rattle - might need adjustment to stop banging .

Overall, I was quite impressed with the Hotel, it's facilities and the rooms were spotless and well laid out - tea & coffee was plentiful and the room was quite large. Also, there was good soundproofing from downstairs which was a great plus. Shower was also excellent.

The only grumble I had was the heating wasn't switched on before I arrived in the Hotel, the room was freezing cold on arrival and the only source of heat is a wall mounted electric heater - it was a cold evening and it took ages to get warm. The other confusing part is that although it is advertised as a B&B - they don't do any kind of breakfast, which I thought was a bit odd, Maybe next time?

Friendly staff. Big, warm room. Brilliant shower. Lots of tea and coffee provided. Food downstairs is excellent. The very kind staff let me and my Mum order food at 5pm, instead of waiting until 6pm. Much appreciated!
