Stayed here for one night after a wedding in the Danby Castle Wedding Venue nearby. Such a lovely surprise... The room was extremely cosy and well decorated- Rustic yet not at all outdated. A lovely warm welcome on arrival, especially from the lady behind the bar who also showed me my room. I went down for a quick drink on my own before bed and even the regulars made me feel at home. The gentleman who looked after me at breakfast was a superstar too. I left feeling extremely guilty, given that feeling a little bit worse for wear, I wasn't actually able to eat my breakfast but everything looked great. A huge amount of effort is put in and he worked non stop to make sure everyone had everything they needed. All in all a fantastic stay.

I would have been happy to have stayed a little longer!

Beautiful place in Beautiful surroundings..I will definitely stay here again in the near future . The staff were so accommodating & polite . Made me feel so comfortable.. It's a short trian journey to Whitby for £7.20 return, hence why I booked The Wellington because prices for accommodation in Whitby are ridiculously high at the peak of season , whereas the Wellington offered much nicer accommodation than anywhere I've ever stayed in Whitby & the breakfast & evening meals were outstanding. I've only been home for 4 hours & want to get in my car & drive back Thankyou for such a wonderful stay x

This is a simple country pub with rooms. Nothing fancy but clean, comfortable and very welcoming. The breakfast was exceptional. You order the day before and it is cooked fresh for you. Local quality ingredients cooked well with a cafetière of good coffee and a jug of juice. I couldn’t have asked for better. I stayed 2 nights as I was there for a wedding in the area. The towels were changed, the bed remade and the tea/coffee station replenished after the first night. I wasn’t expecting that. Just as an aside, the towels were excellent.

As I said before, it is a simple pub, but that is reflected in the price. I guess you could say the decor is a bit dated so if modern and fancy is your vibe then this perhaps isn’t for you but they work with what they have and I was very happy with my stay.

We arrived on bicycles and they had secure storage facilities ready in their cellar. Very useful. The room was spacious, clean, and comfortable. We had a great dinner in the hotel, and the breakfast the next morning was absolutely superb with a wide selection. It is necessary to select breakfast the previous night which I find efficient but some people may not like that. The staff were excellent and gave fantastic service. The location of the hotel is right in the village, close to the station, and with a village shop and a bakery/tea shop nearby.

Our visit was in a fairly cool September and we found the room rather cold. The glazing was single and there was no heating on. The fan heater in the bathroom did not work.

Absolutely everything. From the minute we walked in, we knew our stay would be awesome. Greeted by the fabulous Sonja, she sorted our meals, our room and the rest of our night! Then the food. I know we thanked the chef on the night, but we wanted to single him out as cooking one of the very best meals we have had in years. Thankyou for your precision, your presentation and your very obvious care and love for food. We noticed . The room. The bed was wonderful - but best of all - you make it with a top sheet! It makes all the difference! You are one of the very few places we have ever found that makes the bed properly! It made for such a great night sleep - almost like home. The bathroom was spotless and we very honestly couldn't ask for anything else to be included. The bar. The locals and their dogs made for the perfect evening. Many laughs and many new friends. Sonja, you made that all happen - thankyou. We travel a lot between Australia and the UK. We have stayed in hundreds of places more expensive than the Duke. I can't say that we have enjoyed any of them any more than this one. When you have it, you just have it. Thankyou ☺️ Queenie and Tim Scott

That we had to leave and come home.

The quiet location. Great for an escape and views of the North Yorkshire Moors. Even a short walk to the train station that will get you on a train to Whitby. Breakfast was wonderful. You have to order the night before.

There is no phone signal. It's not good for emergencies. It's not their fault, but I was left on my own in the day for space whilst my husband was walking. Didn't quite hear the instructions for the way out, so, as the pub is closed, I found no staff and no way out and no phone signal.. Eventually, I slipped out of the bar cellar door. It's just a warning for all guests to know the safe way out. They do give you a key for a door on the 1st floor. I just didn't listen to the instructions given to my husband. We would definitely go back again.

Our whole experience at the Duke of Wellington was terrific. The staff were absolutely amazing and attentive. Dinner was great and breakfast was made to order in your own in alcove. Absolutely awesome stay and would stay there again if we were ever in the area.

There was nothing not to like. The bed was comfortable. The bathroom - shower and toilet were up 2 small stairs in the room but were easily accessible. The only drawback was possibly the lack of parking facilities but in saying that the establishment is situated on a corner in a small town.

We stayed one night after attending our friends' wedding at a nearby venue. The staff were very helpful with checking in arrangements so we could get into our room late after the wedding. The room was large, very clean and well equipped as was the ensuite bathroom. It's a small, very rural village, so there's ample free on-street parking close to the inn. The breakfast was good, with reasonable choice, including a substantial cooked traditional English breakfast and included in the room rate.

I'd say the bed was a bit short for me, although to be fair I'm above average height at 1.86m. I still slept OK!

I had such a brilliant stay here. I was travelling for work and was therefore by myself. Upon entering, I was made to feel very welcome. I was shown to my room which was lovely - very comfortable and well equipped. After getting settled, I decided to pop down to the bar for a drink, only to be met by lots of lovely local musicians, who had just started to gather to play, sing and drink together. They were all very friendly and extremely welcoming and I had a really lovely hour or so sat listening to them perform. I had a great night sleep and a wonderful cooked breakfast in the morning. Thank you for making me feel so welcome!
