Upon arrival, the Embankment boasts a tudoresque building across from Great Ouse River. It's pretty terrace, and cosy seating with a nice touch of blankets and cushions welcomes you. We were immediately greeted by Holly, just the person you would like to greet you, she had a huge smile, very personable and took care of everything from check in to booking taxis for our events etc. We were immediately put at ease and knew that we would not want for a thing. It was a very hot weekend and once checked in we sat on the terrace with a cold beer and ordered a few appetisers from the lovely Bethany, again she had an infectious smile, super attentive and we were not disappointed with the food. The menu and specials board was well rounded, and the extensive wine and cocktail menu caters for all. I can highly recommend the Espresso Martini and Spicy Margaritas. The following morning, we were greeted by Niamh. She was a little pocket rocket, nothing was too much trouble, and she made a stunning Bloody Mary! Overall, our experience was faultless on what could be controlled. The weather was stunning, but it was a battle to keep the rooms cool. The Dyson fan was a nice touch. The girls we met and all the staff made this experience very memorable, and they are a true asset to the Embankment Hotel.

As I said previously, it was a particularly hot weekend, and the battle was to keep the rooms cool. Whilst we had a Dyson tower fan, only having one window that opens, and even then, it only opened 4 inches, and the other was painted shut, which was frustrating. The shower pressure was not great. If we were being picky, a new shower head to direct water better would make a difference.

Given a river facing room which was huge with a large couch and very comfy king double bed. TV could do with an upgrade but we didnt mind that. Bathroom was clean and had hot water for the large walk in shower, so no complaints there. Breakfast was excellent. Only criticisim is the second morning, the food was served on cold plates. We had dinner there too on Sunday night and really enjoyed the meal. The location is fantastic. The river is across the street and has a constant stream of rowers, geese, swans and ducks parading past. The vibe is good. Very cleverly the hotel is set up as a coffee joint / bar / restaurant. On Monday morning when most guests had left, the breakfast trade was very quiet but there were plenty locals there having a morning coffee with friends. The location is 100 x better and more comfortable than any of the town's Costa / Starbucks type places.

We were lucky to find parking. There is a small parking area behind the hotel and as we arrived someone left. A wedding was happening so the hotel was busy in that respect. It was a sunny weekend so parking anywhere near the river could have been tricky. I think the hotel should be clearer about the first come first served parking policy or better still reserve a bay for guests staying over. I'd be happy to pay a bit more for that priviledge. No other issues really. Its an historic building but a small hotel that could do with a few bits updating but that needs people supporting it. These are tough times. The souless Mecure around the corner just doesn't compare.

Location right opposite the river where there are lovely walks in both directions. Attractive Outdoor seating looking over the river. Close to the attractive town too. The staff were absolutely wonderful, every single one. The food was excellent at breakfast, lunch and dinner. Reasonably priced, carefully selected food from good small producers. Not extensive but a sound wine list with good ranges and choice. Comfortable and well equipped rooms. I’d pick room 103 for being spacious with views over the river and a large bed. They also have a ground floor large room with full wheelchair access including its bathroom. Bedford is a well kept secret!

Nothing really, except limited room in car park, but we found a space, probably fit not much more than a dozen cars.

Comfortable and spacious hotel room just across the street from the river Ouse, with a great restaurant and excellent staff. We appreciated the large carpark, and we had a wonderful dinner (indoors) and breakfast (outdoors),

Our room faced onto the street and was really hard to keep quiet and cool, and the bathroom had just one light that shone into the main part of the room. A small light in the toilet would be helpful. And the bathroom contained a huge metal bath that was rusty and a waste of valuable space (as we didn’t want o use it).

I liked that the staff were so welcoming and helpful throughout our stay. They were nothing but smiles and found us (2 adults and 2 children age 4 and 5) table in a busy pub and didn't have to wait long at all to be served something to drink whilst we waited for our food. The place was so cozy and charming that I would love to stay there again. The location is very close to the city centre, but also the park, which was lovely with all the lights at night😊 I also loved the fact they let people with dogs in to rest and eat😊

There weren't anything I didn't like at the place😊

Views, we had a front room overlooking the decking and river (103). Room was spacious, bathroom clean and well fitted (no bath just shower) but more than adequate for us Bed was big and comfy, more pillows in wardrobe if needed. The room had a huge wardrobe with iron and ironing board too. There was a dressing table which doubled as a tea/coffee making area/table. Nicely decorated and great views of the River Ouse. Food and service here was great, we ate at the hotel one night of our stay, a table outside on the decking, the tables are under a huge umbrella which also has heat lamps and the tables are provided with big woolen outdoor blankets if it starts to feel chilly.

Room was so hot it was unbearable when we walked in. There was only one fan (small Dyson) but it didn't really do anything. We tried to open the windows but firstly if they were able to open they had locks on so couldn't open more than around a few inches, and only 2 did, the other 2 were painted shut! So no natural air flow into the room. As the room was at the front it had full sun and so had really heated up. I went to reception and whilst we headed out they had been in to try to fix it so that it was a more comfortable temperature. They closed the curtains and added a bigger Dyson fan so the room was cooler when we returned from a walk which was better.

Lovely location along facing out over the river. Friendly welcome from the staff and all information about the hotel and room was given. The room itself was great. Overlooking the river with huge windows and great amenities in the room. Bed was comfortable and a good size. Overall very good

Nothing of any concern. Rooms maybe look a bit dated but in keeping with the aesthetic of the building so this can be explained. I was able to get a space but there's not a huge amount of parking at the pub.

Lovely hotel in beautiful location right opposite the river Ouse. Good food and very friendly staff. Staff restaurant members Ruth and Niamh were very attentive and nothing seemed too much trouble for them and Tom, who greeted us on our first day was definitely the star of the show, charming and welcoming! Thank you all!

No real complaints but just a suggestion. Cleaning staff may want to wipe down chandeliers from cobwebs in bedrooms once in a while.

After seeing a few bad reviews I must admit I was worried about our stay but I absolutely had no need to worry the staff were so friendly and helpful the food was amazing the room was clean and comfortable. The setting and building absolutely gorgeous.

The only one thing I'd say could be improved on would be breakfast. A few of the things we're quite dry like they had been sat under lights or being kept warm for to long. We didn't eat late either it was only 8:30

We were in a comfortable and spacious room and the room was ready to enter before the scheduled check-in time, which was nice. It was only one night, ahead of a flight from Luton but it was a good choice. The riverside location is pleasant and, whilst we did not eat there other than breakfast it was clearly very popular locally for lunch and dinner. The breakfast itself was excellent, with notably good quality ingredients. We would very happily stay again if in the area.
